To host Solo Leveling: Reawakening, keep the Minecraft version, modloader, modpack release, server-pack archive and Java runtime identical on the server and every client. The most documented route is Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.2.0, Java 17 and GeckoLib 4.4.2. Download the matching Solo_Leveling_Reawakening_Server_Pack.zip, install the matching server files, accept the Minecraft EULA, and give every player the same client profile. Choose Regular World for a shared multiplayer progression server; Story Mode is structured around one designated story player.

| 1.21.1 | NeoForge | Use the dependencies listed for the specific 1.21.1 pack release | Solo_Leveling_Reawakening_Server_Pack.zip published for this release |

The mod page identifies the Forge build as Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.2.0, Java 17 and GeckoLib 4.4.2. It also lists a 1.21.1 NeoForge release. Forge files cannot be mixed with NeoForge files, and a 1.20.1 client cannot join a 1.21.1 server simply because the mod has a similarly named release.
- Install Minecraft Java Edition for PC, not a Bedrock-only installation.
- Write down one target pair, such as 1.20.1 + Forge 47.2.0, before creating folders or downloading files.
- Keep the exact modpack release and server-pack archive name with your backup notes so an update does not silently change the environment.
Use the dedicated server pack
For a group, the complete modpack and its server pack are safer than selecting individual files by hand. The modpack page publishes Solo_Leveling_Reawakening_Server_Pack.zip for both the 1.20.1 Forge and 1.21.1 NeoForge lines. Download the archive from the modpack’s Files page, then select the archive that matches the version you chose.

A server pack normally contains the server-side mods, configuration files and launch-related material intended for that modpack. It is not the same thing as copying a player’s entire instance directory. Do not upload a client-only shader, resource-pack cache or unrelated profile files to the server.
Self-hosting: complete setup procedure
1. Create a dedicated server folder
Make a new folder on the computer that will stay online, such as SoloReawakening-Server. Avoid a cloud-synchronised folder or a location where desktop cleanup software can delete unknown files. Keep the world, configuration, logs and backups inside this folder so they can be copied together.

2. Install the matching loader
Download the Forge installer that matches the client’s Minecraft version and run it with the Install server option, pointing it at the new folder. For the documented Forge line, that means Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge 47.2.0. If you chose 1.21.1, use the NeoForge server installer for that release instead; do not run a Forge installer in a NeoForge folder.
The installer creates the loader files and, on current distributions, a generated launch script. On Windows this is commonly a .bat script; on Linux and macOS it is commonly a .sh script. Use the generated script after installation rather than guessing a jar filename, because loader distributions can change their launch layout.
3. Confirm Java 17 for the 1.20.1 Forge build
The project’s 1.20.1 Forge listing specifies Java 17. Check the Java runtime that the server script will use before troubleshooting mods. A newer system Java may be installed on the machine, but that does not prove the script is using it.
Open a terminal or command prompt and run:
java -version
For the Forge 1.20.1 setup, the output should identify Java 17. If it reports another major version, install a Java 17 runtime and set the server script or operating-system path to that runtime. Do not “fix” a Java error by changing Minecraft or Forge versions; first make the runtime match the documented requirement.

- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.

4. Extract the server pack into the server folder
Stop any running process, open Solo_Leveling_Reawakening_Server_Pack.zip, and extract its contents into the server directory. If the archive creates an extra nested folder, move the files up one level so the launch script, configuration directories and server files are in the folder you intend to run.
Use the server pack for the same release as the loader. A 1.20.1 Forge server pack in a 1.21.1 NeoForge directory is a version mismatch even if extraction completes without an error.
5. Start once, accept the EULA, then restart
Run the generated server script once. The first launch creates the world directory, configuration files and eula.txt, then stops or refuses to continue until the EULA is accepted.
- Open the generated
eula.txtin a text editor. - Change the agreement line from
eula=falsetoeula=trueonly after reading and accepting Minecraft’s EULA. - Save the file without changing its name or extension.
- Run the same server script again and watch the console for a message that the server has finished loading.
The project pages do not specify a custom EULA process; this is the normal Minecraft server step. If the distribution generates a different launch script or instructions, follow those instructions for that release.
6. Allocate memory conservatively
Use the loader’s generated script or its documented Java arguments to set a sensible minimum and maximum heap. The amount depends on the number of players, view distance, other mods and the host computer’s available RAM. Leave memory for the operating system; assigning almost all physical RAM to Java can make the machine less stable rather than improving the server.
Change one setting at a time. If the console reports an out-of-memory condition, increase the maximum only when the host has unused RAM. If the machine starts swapping, reduce the allocation and lower simulation or view distance instead.

7. Install the required Forge dependency
For the documented 1.20.1 Forge build, GeckoLib 4.4.2 is listed as a required dependency. Put the matching Forge version of GeckoLib in the server’s mods directory if it is not already included by the server pack. The same compatible dependency must be present in each player’s client instance.
Do not copy a Fabric or NeoForge build of a dependency into a Forge installation. Loader-specific files can have similar names while remaining incompatible.
8. Configure the world and server properties
After the first successful launch, stop the server cleanly from its console before editing files. Set ordinary Minecraft properties such as the server name, difficulty, game mode, player limit and view distance in server.properties. Keep the mod’s own configuration files in the generated configuration directories unless its documentation says otherwise.
For an open group world, select Regular World in the mod’s world or server configuration. The project describes Story Mode as following one main story player, so it is a poor fit when several friends need independent progression in the same multiplayer world.
9. Start the server and test locally
Start the server again and wait for the fully loaded state before launching clients. From the same computer, connect using the local address shown by your operating system or the server host’s local name. Create a temporary test character, verify that the mod’s content loads, and stop the server through the console so the world saves.
Testing locally catches missing dependencies and loader errors before you expose a port to the internet. Keep the first successful world as a backup before inviting players.

Make every client identical
The mod must be installed on the server and on every joining client. CurseForge’s compatibility guidance also requires a mod to match the profile’s Minecraft version; Forge and Fabric are loaders, not interchangeable mod versions.
Give players a short installation checklist:
- Use Minecraft Java Edition for PC.
- Install the same Minecraft version as the server.
- Install the same loader: Forge 47.2.0 for the documented 1.20.1 build, or the specific NeoForge release selected for 1.21.1.
- Import the same Solo Leveling: Reawakening modpack release.
- Install every dependency in the pack, including GeckoLib 4.4.2 for the 1.20.1 Forge build.
- Do not add a different version of the main mod, loader or dependency “just to test.”
A client with a missing mod, an extra incompatible mod or a different loader normally fails during the handshake or disconnects with a registry and version error. Compare the client’s profile and the server’s mods directory rather than repeatedly restarting.
Let friends connect over the internet
Local network play
Players on the same home network can usually connect to the host computer’s local address. Allow Java or the server process through the host firewall when prompted, and verify that the operating system network is marked private or trusted. Test with one client before changing router settings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsInternet play from a home connection
For players outside the home network, the router must forward the Minecraft server port to the host computer’s local address, and the host firewall must allow the same traffic. Give the host a reserved local address so the forwarding rule does not break after a reboot. The exact public address and port depend on your router and internet provider.
Do not publish the address until the server is patched, the operator account is protected and backups exist. Whitelist trusted players, use a strong operator password, and avoid granting operator privileges merely to solve a connection problem.

CurseForge’s support guide describes a managed path for modpacks that have a matching server pack: choose a supported modpack, select its matching server pack, choose a plan and region, and enter the server details. The guide says this workflow requires no manual file uploads or port forwarding. It also states that CurseForge Servers are powered by Shockbyte.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
- Confirm that the Solo Leveling: Reawakening release you want is supported by the host’s current catalog.
- Select the matching Minecraft version, loader and server pack; do not choose a similarly named release.
- Choose a region near most players to reduce latency.
- Select a plan based on the expected player count and modpack memory needs.
- Enter the server name and administrative details, then wait for the provider to deploy the instance.
- Send players the exact modpack profile and version used by the hosted server.

Self-hosting or managed hosting?
| Decision factor | Self-hosted computer | CurseForge managed route |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Install Java, the loader, server pack, configuration and firewall rules yourself | Choose a supported pack and follow the hosted deployment flow |
| Files and configuration control | Full access to worlds, configs, logs, scripts and backups | Provider tools and access rules determine what you can edit |
| Port forwarding | Required for most home internet connections | Guide says no port forwarding is required |
| Maintenance | You handle Java, loader, modpack updates and recovery | Provider handles the machine; you still manage pack compatibility and world updates |
| Backups | You must schedule and verify them | Check the plan’s backup features; the guide does not establish a universal policy |
| Capacity and performance | Limited by your hardware and upload bandwidth | Depends on the selected plan and region; no guarantee is established here |
| Price | Uses existing hardware and electricity | Current pricing is not stated; check the live offer |
| Support | You diagnose logs and network issues | Provider support may help with hosting, but mod-specific compatibility remains your responsibility |
Choose self-hosting when you need direct file access and already have a reliable machine. Choose managed hosting when avoiding router configuration and manual deployment matters more than complete control.
Back up before updating
The project is in active development, and its author recommends backing up important worlds before updates, especially across major versions. Stop the server cleanly, copy the entire world directory and retain the matching server-pack archive and configuration files. Label the backup with the Minecraft version, loader version, modpack release and date.
Never test a major update on the only copy of a progressing world. Create a separate test instance, load a copy of the world, and let players verify that quests, characters, structures and inventories remain intact before switching the live server.
Troubleshooting checklist
“Incompatible mod set” or handshake failure
- Compare Minecraft versions on both sides.
- Compare Forge versus NeoForge; they are not substitutes.
- Confirm the exact modpack release and server-pack archive.
- Check that every required dependency exists in both client and server profiles.
- Remove extra experimental mods from the client and test with a clean pack profile.
Server stops during startup
- Run
java -versionand confirm Java 17 for the 1.20.1 Forge build. - Read the first meaningful error in the server log, not only the final shutdown line.
- Look for a dependency name and required version, then compare it with the server pack.
- Verify that a Forge dependency was not replaced with a Fabric or NeoForge file.
- Restore the last known-good server folder if the failure began immediately after an update.
Players can connect locally but not from outside
- Confirm the server is listening on the expected port.
- Allow Java and the server process through the host firewall.
- Forward the router’s port to the host’s reserved local address.
- Check whether the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, which can prevent inbound forwarding.
- Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot, rather than from inside the same LAN.
Story progress does not behave as expected
Check the selected world type. Story Mode is organized around one designated story player. For a group in which several people should progress independently, create or convert to a Regular World and explain the choice to players before they begin.
The world breaks after an update
Stop immediately, preserve the current logs, and restore the pre-update world backup. Do not repeatedly load and save the only copy. Re-create the previous loader and modpack combination, confirm the backup opens, then investigate the update in a separate test copy.
Launch-day checklist
- One documented Minecraft/loader pair selected.
- Matching
Solo_Leveling_Reawakening_Server_Pack.zipdownloaded. - Java 17 verified for the 1.20.1 Forge build.
- GeckoLib 4.4.2 present for Forge 1.20.1.
- EULA accepted and the server reaches a completed startup.
- Regular World selected for open multiplayer progression.
- Every client has the identical modpack, loader, Minecraft version and dependencies.
- Firewall, port forwarding or managed-host connection tested with one player.
- World backup created before inviting the full group.
The Bottom Line
The dependable setup is an exact match: Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47.2.0, Java 17 and GeckoLib 4.4.2, or the separate 1.21.1 NeoForge release. Use the matching Solo Leveling: Reawakening server pack, install the same profile on every client, choose Regular World for shared progression, and back up the world before updates.
