The quickest way to host a Rebirth of the Night (RotN) server is a provider panel with a pack importer or installer. For full control, download the matching SERVER zip from the pack’s CurseForge Files tab, install it on a machine with enough memory, and make every player use the identical RotN and Minecraft version. The latest release seen in the available listing is RotN 3.3.4 for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, dated February 2, 2026; check the Files tab immediately before installing because that version can change.

What you need before starting

RotN is a Forge-based Minecraft modpack for version 1.12.2. A server is not compatible merely because it uses “the same modpack name”: the Minecraft version, Forge build, RotN release, mods and configuration files must line up. A player running another release can receive missing-mod errors, configuration mismatches or a disconnect during login.

  • A CurseForge account and launcher (or another launcher that can install the exact RotN release) for each player.
  • A server host: either a managed Minecraft provider or a computer/VPS you control.
  • The official RotN SERVER archive from the CurseForge Files tab.
  • A way to transfer files if the host does not provide an importer, such as FTP/SFTP.
  • Memory reserved for the server in addition to the operating system and any other services.

There is no confirmed official Java requirement or official memory recommendation in the available pack information. Do not treat a provider’s generic Minecraft defaults as RotN documentation. Read the README and launch files included with the server archive, and use the Files tab to verify the current release.

Confirm the pack and server archive

Check the release number

The most recent release observed is 3.3.4, for Minecraft 1.12.2 on Forge, dated February 2, 2026. This is a time-sensitive listing detail, not a permanent version guarantee. Open the Files tab and select the release you intend to run; record its exact number before downloading anything.

Choose a file marked SERVER

RotN publishes server packs as separate zip files. The listings observed include a 3.3.4 server pack referenced from a 2.77.5 listing, a 3.3.2 “Server Pack” listing, and a 3.2.2 server pack. That unusual relationship between listing labels makes checking the file’s own version and date especially important.

Search-result snippets reported approximately 735.56 MB for the 3.3.2 server pack (dated November 14, 2025) and 777.50 MB for the 3.2.2 pack (dated August 2024). Those sizes were not verified on the full page and are useful only as a download-size expectation. A current archive can be larger or smaller.

Keep client and server versions identical

Write down the exact server filename and release. Install that same RotN release on every client. Do not let one player update while the server remains on an older archive. If the launcher offers several 1.12.2 profiles, select the profile whose modpack release exactly matches the server.

Hosted server or self-hosting?

A managed host reduces operating-system and networking work; self-hosting gives you direct control of files and hardware. Neither choice removes the need to match versions or maintain backups.

Consideration Managed host Self-hosted computer or VPS
Initial setup Usually an importer or panel installer; the host creates the basic server structure. You download, extract and configure the official server archive yourself.
File control Depends on the plan. Akliz, for example, reports full server-file access over FTP. Complete control over files, scripts, Java process and backups.
Networking The provider normally supplies the public address and handles the machine’s network layer. You must configure the firewall, port forwarding or VPS security rules and a reachable address.
Updates An importer may simplify changing packs, but you still choose and verify the release. You manually preserve worlds, install the new server archive and test before switching players.
Cost Recurring provider pricing; the available listings do not establish current plan prices. Hardware, electricity or VPS charges; cost depends on equipment and bandwidth you already have.
Best fit Players who want the fastest launch and do not want to administer a machine. Administrators who need shell access, custom scripts, unusual mods or complete ownership of data.

Path A: install RotN with a hosting panel

Panel labels and supported versions can change. Select the exact RotN release shown in the panel, then compare it with the release installed by your players before anyone joins.

Akliz

  1. Create a server in the Akliz Command Center.
  2. Start the server from the panel.
  3. Install the same RotN release in the CurseForge launcher on each client.
  4. Use the address supplied by the panel to connect.

The listing information also describes full server-file access over FTP. That is useful for backups, inspecting logs and changing files, but it does not make an incompatible client version work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

CreeperHost

  1. Open the provider’s pack importer.
  2. Import Rebirth of the Night directly from CurseForge.
  3. Choose the intended release, review the generated configuration and start the server.
  4. Give players the exact release number and the connection address.

If the importer selects a newer release by default, stop and change it before creating the world. A newly generated world is not an easy substitute for a version-correct installation.

MTXServ

  1. Open the panel’s game or modpack installer.
  2. Search for “Rebirth of the Night.”
  3. Choose the required RotN release and click Install.
  4. Wait for extraction to finish, then start the server and check the console for a completed Forge startup.

BisectHosting and other listings

BisectHosting has a Rebirth of the Night hosting page, but the installation sequence was not captured in the available listing. Follow its current panel instructions and confirm that the selected release is the same one installed by clients. Search results also showed ScalaCube, OUIHeberg, DedicatedMinecraft.host and StickyPiston, but their RotN installation details were not verified. Treat a search result as an availability lead, not proof that a particular release or importer is currently supported.

Path B: self-host the official server pack

1. Prepare a dedicated machine

Use a wired connection where possible and keep the server directory separate from personal files. On a home network, the machine needs a stable local address so a port-forwarding rule does not break after a reboot. On a VPS, use the provider’s private firewall and security-group controls as well as the operating system firewall.

  • EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world full of surprises.
  • SURVIVAL ADVENTURES — Face mysterious foes, travel across varied landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
  • PLAY TOGETHER — Play solo or join friends in local split-screen and cross-platform play across console, mobile, and PC. Online multiplayer supports up to 8 players.
  • COMMUNITY PLAY — Connect with players on community servers, or subscribe to Realms Plus (sold separately) to play with up to 10 friends on a private server.

2. Download and extract the SERVER zip

  1. Open the current RotN release in the CurseForge Files tab.
  2. Download the file explicitly labeled SERVER, not the client profile or an unrelated release.
  3. Record the filename, release number and download date.
  4. Extract the archive into a new, empty directory. Avoid nesting it inside several automatically created folders; the included launch files should be easy to locate.
  5. Read every README, install note and start script supplied in the archive before changing anything.

Do not copy only the mods directory from a client installation. A server pack can include scripts, configuration, libraries and other files needed for a consistent environment.

3. Verify the Java runtime from the pack files

The available RotN information does not state a Java version. Minecraft 1.12.2 modpacks are often run with Java 8, but that common practice is not confirmation for this pack. Use the Java version named in the pack’s README or launch script. If none is stated, test the server with a supported 64-bit Java installation and keep the console log from the first launch so you can diagnose class-version or launch failures.

4. Run the supplied launch command

Use the start script or command included with the server pack rather than inventing a filename. On Windows this may be a batch file; on Linux it may be a shell script. If the script is not executable on Linux, grant execute permission and run it from the server directory. Keep the terminal or service log visible on the first launch.

5. Accept the EULA and restart

A first launch normally creates an eula.txt file and stops. Read the file, set its acceptance value as required by Mojang’s EULA, save it, and run the same launch command again. Do not download a different server jar to bypass this step; the server pack’s files and scripts should remain the source of truth.

6. Set memory deliberately

Change memory values in the supplied launch script or provider panel. Leave enough physical RAM for the operating system, file cache and any monitoring or backup process. Allocating all installed memory to Java can cause swapping or an operating-system kill even when the in-game player count is low.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

7. Configure server properties

After the first successful start, stop the server cleanly and edit server.properties and any pack-specific configuration files. Set the world name, difficulty, view distance and other options deliberately. Keep the default port unless you have a reason to change it; Minecraft commonly uses 25565, but the value in your file is authoritative. If you change it, players must use the new port.

8. Allow the connection through the network

  • On a home network, forward the configured TCP port from the router to the server machine’s stable local address.
  • Allow the Java process or configured port through the host firewall.
  • On a VPS, open the same port in the provider’s security group and the operating-system firewall.
  • Test from outside your home network; a connection from the same LAN can succeed even when internet players are blocked.

Never publish administrative credentials or give strangers unrestricted FTP, shell or panel access. Use a whitelist if the server is private.

RAM planning for RotN

Published snippets disagree: one report suggests about 6–8 GB for a small group, another says 4 GB can run smoothly, other listings say at least 8 GB, and one estimate suggests 10–12 GB for 10 or more players. The figures were not attributed one-to-one to tested configurations, and none is an official RotN requirement.

  • access new mini games and game modes through servers
Group or claim Reported figure How to interpret it
Small group Approximately 6–8 GB in one provider snippet A planning range, not a guarantee; terrain generation and loaded machines can change usage.
“Runs smoothly” claim 4 GB in one snippet Insufficient context to know player count, view distance or whether the number means allocated or total memory.
Minimum-style claims At least 8 GB in another listing A conservative host tier, not a pack-authoritative minimum.
Ten or more players 10–12 GB in a further estimate Useful as a starting tier for a larger group, with headroom still needed for the operating system.

For a first deployment, choose a host tier that leaves headroom, monitor the Java process and server tick performance, then adjust. Increase memory only when logs and monitoring show memory pressure; more RAM does not fix a CPU bottleneck, a slow disk or a mismatched mod installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Install and connect the client

  1. Install the CurseForge launcher or another launcher that supports the pack.
  2. Select the exact RotN release running on the server.
  3. Confirm that the launcher profile uses Minecraft 1.12.2 and Forge, not a vanilla or different Forge profile.
  4. Start the profile once in single-player so the launcher completes downloads and creates its local configuration.
  5. Open Multiplayer, choose Add Server, enter the server address and port, and connect.

For a home server, players on the same network can use the server machine’s local address; internet players need the public address and forwarded port. A hosted panel normally supplies the public address. If a client reports a missing mod, channel mismatch or configuration error, stop troubleshooting the network and compare the client’s release and files with the server first.

Backups, updates and safe maintenance

Back up the world before every change

Stop the server cleanly, copy the world directory and retain a dated backup outside the live server folder. Include configuration files if you have changed gameplay settings. Test that a backup can be opened or restored on a separate directory; a file that merely exists is not a verified backup.

Update as a controlled migration

  1. Record the current RotN release and make a complete backup.
  2. Download the new release’s SERVER archive and read its notes.
  3. Build a separate test directory rather than overwriting the live server.
  4. Copy only the world and explicitly required configuration changes, following the pack’s instructions.
  5. Start the test server, check the console and join with a client on the new release.
  6. Schedule downtime, replace the live files, and keep the old directory until the new world has been validated.

Never assume that a newer client can safely join an older world or that an older server can accept a newer client. Keep all players on the tested release during the migration.

Use logs to identify the failure class

  • Java will not start: check the Java path, 64-bit installation and the version requested by the pack’s own files.
  • Out-of-memory or repeated garbage-collection pauses: lower view distance and other load-generating settings, close unrelated services, and increase the host tier only after confirming available physical RAM.
  • Missing-mod or registry errors: compare the exact RotN release, Minecraft 1.12.2/Forge profile and the server’s mod/config files.
  • Players cannot reach the server: verify the server is listening on the configured port, then check the operating-system firewall, router forwarding and provider firewall.
  • World rollback or corruption after a crash: stop the process, preserve the logs and restore the most recent known-good backup instead of repeatedly launching the damaged world.
  • Panel installation stops partway: confirm free disk space, wait for the installer to finish, and use the panel’s console or file manager to identify the first error before reinstalling.

Practical decision guide

Choose a hosted installer when

  • You want the server online quickly without administering Linux, router rules or Java.
  • Your group is comfortable with the provider’s recurring charge and panel limits.
  • The provider’s importer explicitly offers the RotN release you intend to run.

Choose self-hosting when

  • You already have a suitable machine and reliable upstream bandwidth.
  • You need direct access to scripts, logs, backups and every server file.
  • You are comfortable handling firewall rules, updates, Java troubleshooting and recovery.

What is and is not officially established

The available public listings identify RotN as a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2 and show separate server-pack downloads. They do not provide an authoritative Java version, RAM requirement, named performance benchmark or quoted statement from the pack author. A download count appearing in a search snippet had no identifiable publisher or year, so it is not a reliable measure of popularity. Treat provider memory figures as planning estimates and the Files tab plus the pack’s own README as the authority for the release you install.
