To host RagnaMod VI In the Sky, use the matching RagnamodVISky-Serverfiles-6.0.4.zip distribution for Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge, extract it into a dedicated server folder, run its supplied Forge/startup scripts, allocate about 8 GB of RAM, and choose the desired skyblock template before the first world is created. Every player must use the same 1.16.5 pack version and mod list as the server.

What you are hosting

Ragnamod VI In the Sky is a large Minecraft Java Edition modpack built for Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge. CurseForge lists version 6.0.4 as the latest release in the supplied project information, with the corresponding server archive named RagnamodVISky-Serverfiles-6.0.4.zip and dated December 20, 2022. Do not mix this archive with a different pack release: the server, client, configuration files and mods need to describe the same pack version.

The author, MLDEG, describes the pack as “Ragnamod VI, a Skyblock with a LOT of Quests and fun around Tech, Explo and Magic !” It contains more than 300 mods and a large quest book. That scale affects startup time, memory use, world-generation load and the amount of data you must back up.

Item What to use Qualification
Minecraft edition Java Edition The pack is a Forge pack, not a Bedrock server.
Mod loader Forge Use the Forge version and scripts included with the server distribution.
Pack version 6.0.4 Latest release listed in the supplied project information.
Server archive RagnamodVISky-Serverfiles-6.0.4.zip Download the server-files archive, not the client ZIP or a client-side mods folder.
Pack scale More than 300 mods and a large quest book Expect heavier startup and simulation requirements than a small vanilla server.

Choose between self-hosting and managed hosting

Both approaches run the same pack. The practical difference is who maintains the operating system, Java/Forge installation, backups, network access and file changes.

Decision area Self-hosted server Managed host
Upfront cost Uses a computer and connection you already own; hardware, electricity and storage are your responsibility. Usually avoids buying server hardware but adds a recurring hosting fee. Check the provider’s current plan, location and terms.
Files and mods Full control over scripts, configuration, templates and additional mods. Most panels provide file access; confirm that SFTP or equivalent access is available before making custom changes.
Backups and rollback You must schedule, verify and store backups yourself. Panels may provide automated backups and world management, but you still need a manual backup before updates.
CPU, RAM and storage You choose the machine and must leave memory for the operating system and other applications. You choose a plan with a stated memory limit; CPU contention and storage policies depend on the provider.
Network reliability Depends on your home or office connection, upload speed, firewall and changing IP address. The provider supplies the public endpoint and data-center network, subject to its service limits.
Maintenance effort You install Forge, accept the EULA, edit scripts, update files and troubleshoot logs. A control panel can automate installation and updates, leaving you to manage settings, players and backups.

Self-hosting is the better fit when you need direct control over the template and configuration, already have a suitable always-on computer, and are comfortable reading Forge logs. Managed hosting is more convenient when you want a public endpoint, panel-based installation and provider-managed infrastructure. Neither option removes the need to keep client versions aligned and to back up the world before changes.

Memory and hardware planning

MLDEG’s 2022 guidance lists 5–6 GB of minimum allocated RAM and 8–10 GB of recommended allocated RAM. Start near 8 GB for a small group, then adjust after observing startup, tick time and garbage-collection behavior. “Allocated” means memory given to the Java process; it is not the total physical RAM in the machine.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A self-hosted computer needs more physical memory than the Java allocation. If Java can use 8 GB, leave additional memory for the operating system, backups, the file cache and any other applications.
  • A managed plan’s advertised RAM is normally the server process limit. Check whether the panel counts memory in decimal megabytes or gibibytes and whether Java overhead is included.
  • More players, chunk loading, automation-heavy bases and simultaneous exploration increase simulation and memory pressure. There is no published player-capacity benchmark for this pack, so determine a practical limit from your own tick-time and crash logs.
  • Keep fast, reliable storage and enough free space for the world, region files, logs, backups and temporary update files. The supplied information does not state a fixed disk requirement.

The pack author does not publish a guaranteed Java runtime version or a universal player-capacity figure on the project information provided. Follow the runtime expected by the included startup scripts and verify it against current Forge documentation for the host operating system rather than assuming that any installed Java version will work.

Self-hosting: complete setup procedure

1. Prepare a dedicated server machine

  1. Choose a computer that can remain online while players connect. Give it a stable local address if you will configure port forwarding, and ensure the operating system, storage and network connection are maintained.
  2. Make a new folder used only for this server, such as a directory named for the pack and version. Keep it outside a player’s ordinary Minecraft client directory.
  3. Arrange a backup destination on a different disk or machine. A backup stored in the same folder does not protect you from disk failure or an accidental deletion.
  4. Close memory-intensive applications before testing. The 8–10 GB recommendation applies to the Java server allocation, not to every process running on the computer.

2. Download the matching server distribution

  1. From the official Ragnamod VI In the Sky project page on CurseForge, download the server-files archive whose filename is RagnamodVISky-Serverfiles-6.0.4.zip.
  2. Compare the archive’s version with the client pack version you intend to give players. Do not rename a different release to make it appear to be 6.0.4.
  3. Keep the original ZIP as an untouched recovery copy. Extract its contents into the dedicated server folder; do not place the server ZIP in a client’s mods folder.
  4. Read the included README, startup scripts and Forge installer instructions before launching. The distribution may contain platform-specific scripts, and those files are the authoritative guide for the package you downloaded.

The project is marked All Rights Reserved on CurseForge. Use the official distribution and respect its terms when copying files or sharing the server with others.

3. Install or complete Forge as instructed

  1. Open the extracted folder and identify the supplied Forge installer or installation command. Run it from that folder, using the Java runtime and options required by the included instructions.
  2. Allow the installer to create the Forge libraries and server files in the same dedicated directory. If it asks for a server path, select the directory containing the extracted pack files.
  3. Do not add optional client-only mods during this stage. A server must load the server distribution exactly as supplied before you attempt custom changes.
  4. Run the supplied startup script once. The first launch normally creates configuration files and stops or pauses for the Minecraft EULA. Open the generated eula.txt, read the license and change eula=false to eula=true only if you accept it, then save the file.

4. Set Java memory flags

Edit the memory values in the supplied startup script rather than inventing a second launcher. Set the initial and maximum heap to a value consistent with the pack guidance, for example an 8 GB allocation if the host has adequate spare memory. The exact syntax varies by script, but Java options commonly appear as -Xms8G and -Xmx8G; preserve the script’s existing Forge arguments and file names.

  • Use approximately 5–6 GB only as the author’s minimum range, not as a promise that every group will have a smooth experience.
  • Use 8–10 GB as the recommended range published by MLDEG/CurseForge in 2022, increasing only when the machine has enough physical memory and logs show a need.
  • Never allocate all physical RAM. The operating system needs headroom for networking, disk caching, backups and the desktop or remote-management tools.
  • If the server crashes with an out-of-memory error, inspect the log and increase the allocation only if physical memory remains available. If the server becomes unresponsive while memory is available, investigate CPU, storage and mod errors instead of blindly adding RAM.

5. Select the skyblock island before world creation

Ragnamod VI uses Skyblock Builder templates. Choose the island before the first world is generated, because changing the template after players have started can require a new world or manual migration.

  • Experience the benefits of a PC Memory Upgrade with the ability to run more demanding applications simultaneously, and at faster speeds, for a better, smoother, computing experience
  • High performance DDR4 Laptop Memory designed for PC enthusiasts and gamers
  • Exceptional performance with a frequency speed of 3200MHz (PC4-25600), and backwards compatible with lower frequencies (2933MHz, 2666MHz, 2400MHz and 2133MHz)
  • DDR4 260 Pin Non-ECC SODIMM, Timing 22-22-22, CAS Latency of 22, 1.2 Volts
  1. Stop the server cleanly if it is running. Do not edit template files while Forge is writing the world.
  2. Open the server’s configskyblockbuilder directory.
  3. Open the templates folder supplied with the pack and identify the island template you want. Keep the original files unchanged so you can switch back later.
  4. Copy the selected template into the configskyblockbuilder directory.
  5. Rename the copied file to exactly template.nbt, replacing the existing template.nbt when prompted. The path must therefore be configskyblockbuildertemplate.nbt.
  6. Start the server and create a test world. Confirm that the intended island appears before inviting players or investing time in a permanent base.

On an existing world, replacing the template file does not retroactively rebuild islands that have already been generated. Make a backup and follow the pack’s or mod’s documented world-reset procedure if you need to start over.

6. Complete the first boot test

  1. Start the server from the supplied script and wait for the Forge console to report that it is ready for connections.
  2. Connect from the host computer using the local address. Check that the island, quest book, recipes and major dimensions load without repeated errors.
  3. Stop the server with its console stop command. Avoid closing the terminal or killing the process, because an unclean shutdown can leave region or player data incomplete.
  4. Review the latest log for missing mods, failed mixins, Java exceptions and repeated warnings. Resolve those issues before opening the server to the internet.
  5. Only after the local test succeeds should you configure router port forwarding, a firewall rule or a public DNS name. The exact port and networking steps depend on your operating system and router; the pack documentation does not publish a special networking requirement.

Client installation and compatibility

Every player must install the same Ragnamod VI In the Sky release, Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge version and mod list as the server. WinterNode specifically advises matching client and server mod lists. This matters even more after a server owner removes, adds or updates a mod.

  • Give players the exact pack version number, not only the pack name.
  • Do not let one player use a newer client while the server remains on 6.0.4. A version mismatch can produce missing-mod, registry or network errors.
  • After any custom change, distribute the changed configuration or mod list consistently and record what changed.
  • The official project information states that the pack is not compatible with OptiFine. Do not ask players to add OptiFine as a performance fix; use the pack’s supported configuration and troubleshoot Forge logs instead.

Managed-host installation

CreeperHost-style panel workflow

CreeperHost documents a panel sequence for this pack: create a Minecraft Java server, name the instance, search for Ragnamod VI In the Sky, and install it from the available pack entry. Its page describes one-click installation and updates, backups and world management. The listed minimum RAM tier is 4,500 MB.

  • Requires overclocking/BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depends on system components, including motherboard and CPU.
  • G.SKILL RipjawsV Series DDR4 U-DIMM Memory Kit, Model: F4-3200C16D-16GVKB
  • Non-ECC, DDR4 U-DIMM, 288-pin, for Desktop PC & Gaming
  • Includes JEDEC default profile, and Intel XMP memory overclock profile
  • Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set. Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.

Because 4,500 MB is below MLDEG’s published 5–6 GB minimum allocation, treat that tier as a constrained starting point rather than evidence that a larger group will run comfortably. Check the panel’s current limits and move to a higher-memory plan if startup or simulation performance is poor.

WinterNode-style workflow

WinterNode advertises Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge hosting for Ragnamod VI, recommends 8 GB of RAM, preinstalls the pack and provides SFTP/file access. It states that it performs backups twice daily and retains 45 days of history. Even with that schedule, make a manual backup immediately before an update, template replacement or mod change.

  1. Create the server instance and select the Ragnamod VI In the Sky pack entry.
  2. Choose a memory plan that meets the 8 GB recommendation for a normal small group, unless your testing demonstrates that another allocation is appropriate.
  3. Start the instance once, accept the EULA through the panel if prompted, and wait for the initial files to appear.
  4. Use the panel’s file manager or SFTP to inspect configskyblockbuildertemplates and replace configskyblockbuildertemplate.nbt with the selected, renamed template before generating the permanent world.
  5. Test from one client, verify quests and island generation, then invite the rest of the players with the exact client version.

Hosting panels change their plans, locations, prices and update mechanisms. Confirm current limits and backup retention directly in the provider dashboard before paying or migrating a live world.

Backups, updates and safe maintenance

A modded world should be treated as valuable application data. Back up the complete server directory or, at minimum, the world folders, player data, configuration, scripts and mod list. Store at least one copy away from the live machine and periodically restore a copy to a test directory so you know the backup is usable.

Before a version or mod change

  1. Tell players the server will be offline and stop it cleanly.
  2. Create and label a dated backup that identifies the old pack version.
  3. Record custom mods, configuration edits and the selected island template.
  4. Apply the update in a separate test copy when possible. Major version jumps can change mod data; WinterNode recommends a manual backup before updates.
  5. Start the test copy, inspect logs and enter the world with a matching client before replacing the live files.

After a successful change

  • Keep the pre-update backup until the new world has been played and verified for several sessions.
  • Update every client’s pack and mod list at the same time.
  • Write down the new version, memory allocation and any template or configuration change.
  • Do not delete old backups merely because the server starts; data corruption can appear after players load older chunks.

Troubleshooting common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to check
Server stops during startup with memory errors Heap allocation is too low, or the machine has insufficient free physical memory. Confirm the script’s -Xms/-Xmx values, leave operating-system headroom and review the log before increasing RAM.
Players see missing-mod or incompatible-version errors The client and server do not use the same 1.16.5 pack release or mod list. Compare the exact pack version, Forge version and every custom mod on both sides. Remove unsupported OptiFine.
The intended island does not appear The template was changed after world creation, placed in the wrong folder or not renamed exactly. Stop the server, verify configskyblockbuildertemplate.nbt, and test in a new world. A template replacement does not rebuild an existing world.
World loads but ticks are slow Simulation load from many players, chunk generation, automation or limited CPU/storage. Check the server console and tick-time information, reduce simultaneous exploration, and consider more CPU or memory headroom rather than assuming RAM alone is the cause.
Updates break the world or quests Mod data changed between versions or a custom file was overwritten. Stop, restore the pre-update backup and test the update in a copy. Reapply documented customizations only after the test succeeds.
Server cannot be reached from outside the host Firewall, router forwarding, changing public address or provider networking. Test locally first, then check the host firewall, router rule and the address players are using. The pack itself does not define these network settings.

Which hosting route should you use?

  • Choose self-hosting if you want complete access to files and templates, can keep a computer online, can reserve at least the recommended memory plus operating-system headroom, and are willing to manage backups and Forge updates.
  • Choose managed hosting if you prefer a dashboard, provider networking, automated backup options and SFTP over maintaining the machine yourself. Verify that the plan can provide at least the pack’s memory guidance and that you can still download your own backups.
  • Delay opening the server publicly until a local test confirms the selected island, quests, dimensions and client connection. This catches template and compatibility mistakes before they affect a shared world.

The safest initial configuration is the 6.0.4 server archive, Forge for Minecraft 1.16.5, approximately 8 GB allocated to Java with additional system headroom, a verified template.nbt, and clients installed from the identical pack release. Once that baseline works, make one change at a time and preserve a backup before each change.
