- A dedicated computer or managed Minecraft server that can remain online when friends want to play.
- The Prominence II server pack for the same release that players will install. A normal client profile is not a substitute.
- A working Java 17 installation.
- Permission to create firewall rules and, for home hosting, change router port-forwarding settings.
- Enough memory for the pack and the operating system. Provider guidance puts a small private group at roughly 6–8 GB as a starting allocation, not as a universal requirement.
Keep the client pack and server pack separate. Client-only files belong in each player’s launcher profile; the server should contain the files supplied for server operation.
Choose self-hosting or a managed server
Self-hosting gives you control over the files, world, upgrades and hardware, but the host computer must stay powered on and reachable. A managed server charges a recurring fee in exchange for a control panel, automated installation and less day-to-day administration. Cinderstone Studios’ hosting information identifies BisectHosting as an official hosting partner and describes one-click Prominence II installation; verify the provider’s current price, location, backups, support terms and installed pack version before ordering.

Download the correct Prominence II server pack
1. Select a single release
Decide which release everyone will use. The current project listing names v4.1.3, but a later release may be shown when you follow these steps. Write down the release number, Minecraft version and loader before downloading so there is no ambiguity when friends install the client.
2. Open the project’s files and additional files
In the official CurseForge project, open the Files area and its Additional Files section. Download the server-pack file associated with the exact release you selected. Do not download only the ordinary client profile and rename it: the server pack is assembled for dedicated-server use and may omit client-only content.
3. Make a dedicated server directory
Create a new folder used only for this world. Avoid mixing it with an existing vanilla server or a client’s launcher directory. Extract the server-pack archive into that folder, preserving the included directory structure and files.
4. Read the supplied instructions
Look for HOW_TO_RUN.md and any start script included in the archive. Follow that script rather than inventing a different launch command; it may set the required Fabric loader and memory options for the pack. If the archive contains both Windows and Linux/macOS scripts, use the one matching the host operating system.

Install Java 17 and verify the runtime
The setup guidance for this pack identifies Java 17. Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime and make sure the server’s start script calls that installation, not an older Java version left on the system. A mismatched runtime is a common reason for an immediate startup failure.
- Check the Java version reported by the host before starting the server.
- If multiple Java installations exist, set the operating system’s default or edit the supplied script so it points to Java 17.
- Do not switch the server to a different Minecraft loader: this pack’s documented setup uses Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1.
If the console reports an unsupported class version, missing Java executable or a loader error, stop and correct Java 17 or the script path before changing mod files.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsStart the Fabric server and accept the EULA
- Open the extracted server directory.
- Run the included start script described by
HOW_TO_RUN.md. - On the first launch, the server normally creates its configuration and an
eula.txtfile, then stops or asks you to accept the Minecraft EULA. - Open
eula.txt, read the license, change the setting toeula=true, save the file, and run the start script again. - Wait for the console to finish loading before attempting to connect. Keep the console window or service running while players are online.
Do not copy a player’s client mods into the server merely because a client reports a missing file. Compare the release, loader and server-pack contents first.
Set memory without starving the operating system
For a small private group, start by allocating approximately 6–8 GB to the server and leave additional RAM for the operating system and other services. This is provider guidance for planning, not an official universal requirement. Actual needs change with simultaneous players, exploration, base complexity, generated structures, dungeons and boss encounters.

How to decide whether to add memory
- Observe the server while several players explore new terrain, build, enter dungeons and fight bosses.
- Increase the allocation only when the host has spare physical RAM and logs or in-game symptoms show memory pressure.
- Do not give the server all available memory; the operating system, Java process and any control panel still need headroom.
- Record the allocation and pack release before changing them so you can correlate a performance change with the cause.
More RAM cannot fix every lag problem. A weak CPU, slow storage, a saturated network connection or a mod conflict can remain the bottleneck even after increasing the heap.
Make the server reachable from the internet
Allow the listening port
A typical Minecraft server listens on TCP port 25565. Permit that port in the host computer’s firewall and in the router’s port-forwarding rule, directing incoming traffic to the computer running the server. Your router and operating system may use different labels, but the required information is the same: protocol TCP, external port 25565, and the host machine’s internal address.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Give players the right address
Players outside your home network normally connect using your public internet address, optionally with a port if you changed it from the default. Players on the same local network may need the host’s private address instead. Never give out an address until the server is running and the firewall and forwarding rule are saved.
Test before inviting everyone
- First connect from the host or local network to confirm that Fabric and the world load.
- Then test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot, to verify that router forwarding works from outside.
- If local connections work but outside connections fail, inspect the router rule, firewall and internet-provider restrictions rather than reinstalling the modpack.
Some internet connections use carrier-grade NAT and do not provide an address that can accept inbound connections. In that case, self-hosting may require a different network arrangement or a managed host.

Prepare players using CurseForge, Modrinth or Prism
The launcher a player prefers is less important than exact file compatibility. Every player must install the same Prominence II release, Minecraft version and Fabric loader as the server. A player using CurseForge, Modrinth or Prism should select the matching profile rather than an adjacent release or an independently assembled collection of mods.
Send a concise joining checklist
- Prominence II: Hasturian Era release number matches the server exactly.
- Minecraft version is 1.20.1 when the server is using the currently listed release line.
- Fabric is selected, not Forge or another loader.
- The launcher has finished downloading the complete client profile.
- The player uses Java 17 if the launcher requires a manually selected runtime.
- The multiplayer address is copied exactly, with the port included when it is not 25565.
If one launcher displays a different pack number from another, trust the release number and files, not the launcher name. A launcher update can change labels without making an incompatible server compatible.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Back up the world before every pack change
Stop the server cleanly before copying its world directory. Keep at least one backup from the working release outside the live server folder. Before updating, record the old release, server-pack archive and date; then make a second backup immediately before launching the new files.
- Tell players to log out and stop the server through its normal console or control-panel action.
- Copy the complete world and relevant configuration files to separate storage.
- Replace or update the server files only with the server pack for the target release.
- Start the server and watch the console for errors before allowing players to join.
- Have one player test important areas, inventories and progression before declaring the update successful.
Never assume that a newer pack can safely open a world created by an older release. A backup gives you a rollback path if world data or a mod changes incompatibly.

Common startup and connection failures
The server exits immediately
Confirm Java 17 first, then verify that you extracted the server pack completely and are running the supplied Fabric start script from the correct directory. An ordinary client profile, an incomplete extraction or an older Java runtime can all fail before the world loads.

The EULA message repeats
Open the eula.txt file created in the actual server directory and set eula=true. Check that the file was saved and that the account running the server can read it. Editing an identically named file in another folder has no effect.
A player receives a mod-list or version mismatch
Compare the server’s release number with the player’s displayed release, then compare Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric and Java 17. Reinstall the matching client profile if necessary. Do not solve a mismatch by deleting random mods; the server pack and client pack are designed to be used as coordinated releases.
Players cannot connect from outside the home
Check that the server is running, the host firewall allows TCP 25565, the router forwards that port to the correct internal address, and the player is using your public address. Test from another network. If the internet provider blocks inbound connections or uses carrier-grade NAT, use a network solution that supplies inbound reachability or move the world to managed hosting.
The server lags during exploration or boss fights
Watch whether the problem appears only during new terrain generation, at a crowded base or during a specific encounter. Confirm that the host still has operating-system headroom, then increase memory within the machine’s limits only if observation supports it. Keep the release unchanged while diagnosing so a version update does not obscure the cause.

Operate the server safely over time
- Keep the server pack, client pack and release number aligned for every update.
- Maintain dated world backups and periodically test that a backup can be restored.
- Announce maintenance before stopping the server so players do not lose progress.
- Keep Java 17 available and avoid changing the loader independently of a pack release.
- After an update, test joining, world loading, inventories, dimensions and a representative dungeon or boss encounter before inviting the whole group.
- Review memory and CPU behavior after the group grows; the 6–8 GB starting range was intended for a small group and is not a promise for larger populations.
Quick decision checklist
- Choose one Prominence II release; the current listing is v4.1.3 for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Fabric.
- Download that release’s separate server pack from the project’s Additional Files area.
- Extract it into a clean server directory and read
HOW_TO_RUN.md. - Install and verify Java 17.
- Run the supplied Fabric start script, set
eula=true, and start again. - Begin with roughly 6–8 GB of RAM for a small private group while preserving operating-system headroom.
- Allow TCP 25565 through the firewall and router, then test an external connection.
- Give every player the identical release, Minecraft version, Fabric loader and Java configuration.
- Back up the world before any server-pack or version change.
Bottom line
The reliable setup is the matching Prominence II server pack—not a copied client instance—running on Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1 with Java 17. Accept the EULA, start with about 6–8 GB for a small group, configure TCP 25565, and keep every client on the same release. Self-host when you want control and can maintain the machine and network; choose managed hosting when automated installation, uptime and support are worth the recurring cost.
