Before downloading anything, record the exact Hasturian Era version number. The server and every client must use that same release. The latest server-pack entry shown on the listing is dated October 8, 2026; that date identifies the current listing snapshot, not a promise that later releases will use the same files or dependencies.
Choose self-hosting or managed hosting
Self-hosting gives you direct access to the operating system, world files, scripts, Java process, and every mod. It is usually the best fit when you have a reliable machine, can configure your router, and want complete control. Managed hosting moves the process, public networking, runtime selection, file deployment, and often backups into a provider panel, but you pay a recurring fee and must confirm that the provider supports your precise pack release.
#1 Best Overall
- DELUXE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, three Bedrock add-ons, three exclusive Character Creator items, and 700 Minecoins.
- CREATE YOUR WORLD — Build whatever you imagine in an infinite world that’s unique in every playthrough.
- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.

| Consideration | Self-hosted server | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Install Java, extract the pack, accept the EULA, configure the OS and router, and maintain the files yourself. | The panel commonly supplies a server process, Java selection, file deployment, and a network address. |
| File and mod control | Full control over scripts, configuration, loader, mods, and release pinning. | Control depends on the panel; verify that you can install and retain the exact Hasturian Era version. |
| Recurring cost | No hosting bill, but you provide hardware, electricity, storage, and an internet connection. | Monthly cost varies by memory, storage, location, backups, and support; no universal price is established here. |
| Public networking | You must configure the host firewall, router/NAT, and possibly a changing public IP. | The provider normally supplies the public address and panel firewall controls. |
| Backups | You design and test your own world and configuration backups. | Backups may be included, limited, or sold separately; read the retention and restore terms. |
| Support | You diagnose Java, Fabric, mod dependencies, crashes, and network problems. | Support can help with the platform, but pack-specific dependency errors still require the release notes or project support channels. |
| Latency | Players connect to your home or colocated connection. | You can usually select a region, which may improve latency for a distributed group. |
Some providers advertise Prominence II Fabric 1.20.1 support, but a catalog label is not proof that the provider has your chosen release, Java runtime, storage, backup policy, or modpack installer. Ask for those details before migrating an established world.
What you need before installing
- A Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 client for each player.
- The exact Prominence II: Hasturian Era server-pack release from the CurseForge listing’s additional-files or server-pack area.
- A 64-bit Java 17 runtime for the documented 1.20.1 configuration.
- A clean directory on an SSD or other dependable storage, with enough free space for the extracted files, generated world, logs, crash reports, and backups.
- Permission to allow the server process through the host firewall and, for home hosting, administer the router that performs NAT or port forwarding.
- A backup location that is separate from the live world directory.
Prominence II releases can change their mod lists and dependencies. One current third-party configuration reports 443 mods, but that is not a permanent specification or a universal resource requirement.

1. Download one matching server pack
Open the official Prominence II: Hasturian Era listing and select the server-pack file under the exact release you recorded. Do not download a random client profile and rename its folder. A client profile can contain client-only mods, omit server configuration, or use files from a different release.
Keep the downloaded archive and write down its version. If you later update, download the new server pack as a complete, identifiable release rather than copying individual jars from an unrelated installation.
2. Install and verify Java 17
Install a 64-bit Java 17 runtime appropriate to your operating system. Open a terminal or command prompt and run:
java -version
The output should identify Java 17 and should resolve to the installation you intend the server to use. If the command reports another major version, update your PATH or use the absolute path to the Java executable in the start script. A third-party guide reports Fabric Loader 0.19.3 for one current setup; treat that loader number as release-specific, not as a requirement for every future pack version.

3. Create a clean server directory
Create a new folder dedicated to this server, such as a directory named for the exact pack release. Extract the server pack into that folder without nesting it inside an unrelated vanilla or Forge server directory. Mixing installations can leave behind old libraries, world settings, loader files, or scripts that produce misleading errors.
Keep the path simple and make sure the account running the server can read and write it. Leave additional free space for the world to grow and for at least one local backup while you test.
4. Start once to generate files
Use the supplied start.bat, start.sh, or Fabric server launcher, depending on the operating system and the files in the pack. The first launch normally creates configuration files and then stops or pauses because the EULA has not been accepted.
Read the generated EULA file. If you agree to Mojang’s EULA, change only the acceptance value to:
eula=true
Do not set this value without reading the EULA, and do not copy an EULA file from an unrelated server.
5. Configure server.properties
Open server.properties after the first run. The most useful settings for a private modpack server are:

| Setting | What to decide | Practical starting point |
|---|---|---|
level-name |
The folder name of the world to create or load. | Use a unique name for this pack and keep it unchanged when testing updates. |
difficulty |
The gameplay difficulty. | Choose the value your group expects before generating the permanent world. |
view-distance |
How many chunks the server sends around players. | Start conservatively and increase only after observing tick time and memory use. |
simulation-distance |
How far entities and game mechanics are actively simulated. | Keep it below an aggressive value if CPU load or tick delay appears. |
white-list |
Whether only named players can join. | Enable it for a private group and add players deliberately. |
server-port |
The TCP listening port used by the server. | Keep the pack’s configured port unless another service already uses it; forward the same port externally. |
Use operator privileges only for trusted people. Make a world and configuration backup before changing world-generation or gameplay settings. Some changes are safest on a newly generated test world rather than on the only copy of an established save.
6. Start again and inspect the logs
Run the same start script a second time. Wait for Fabric and the pack’s mods to finish loading, then inspect the console and logs/latest.log. A usable launch should show the expected Minecraft version, Fabric loader, and mod set without unresolved dependency or version errors.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteStop the server cleanly with the console stop command before replacing files, copying a world, or changing the pack release. Abruptly killing the process can leave chunks or region data in an unsafe state.
Make the server reachable by friends
Home network
- Reserve or otherwise identify the host computer’s local IP address so a router rule does not point to a different machine later.
- Allow the Java server process and the configured
server-portthrough the operating system’s firewall. Apply the rule only to the network profiles you actually need. - Log in to the router and forward the same listening port and protocol to the host computer’s local IP address. Router labels differ, so follow that model’s documentation rather than copying a rule for a different device.
- Start the server and test from a connection outside the home network, such as a friend’s internet connection or a mobile hotspot. Testing only from inside the LAN can succeed even when the public NAT rule is wrong.
- Give friends the public address and port in the format your Minecraft client accepts. Do not publish the address more widely than necessary.
Exact forwarding screens, carrier-grade NAT behavior, and changing residential addresses vary by provider. If outside testing cannot reach the server even though the local firewall and router rule are correct, your internet service may block inbound connections or place the home router behind another NAT device.
Managed host
Use the address and port assigned by the provider, and configure its panel firewall instead of forwarding a home router port. Confirm that the installer is deploying the server pack for your exact Hasturian Era release, not a similarly named RPG project or a generic Fabric profile.
Install the matching client for every player
Each player must install Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1, the same Prominence II: Hasturian Era release, and a compatible Fabric loader. Fabric’s compatibility guidance is strict: a mod must match the Minecraft version, loader family, and Java Edition. A player using a newer pack release, a different loader family, or a client-only mod set can fail during connection or receive missing-mod and registry errors.

- Compare the release number shown in each player’s launcher profile with the server’s recorded version.
- Remove duplicate or manually added mods until the client matches the official profile.
- Use the Java runtime expected by that client profile; the server’s Java 17 requirement does not make every unrelated client installation compatible.
- Have the player copy the complete error message and client log if the connection fails.
When a release has no server-pack download
A release may temporarily lack a downloadable server pack. In that case, a hosting installer may generate a server installation by placing server-side mods and a Fabric loader automatically. One current hosting guide describes this fallback for Minecraft 1.20.1 and Java 17.
- Run the installer for the exact client release, not merely for a project name.
- Keep a copy of the installer’s output, generated scripts, and version information.
- Inspect which mods, libraries, and loader version were installed on the server.
- Compare the generated server files with the matching client profile before creating the permanent world.
- Do not combine server files generated for one release with a client from another release.
If the generated installation reports a dependency conflict, stop there and resolve the release mismatch instead of deleting random jars. A missing official server pack is a reason to verify more carefully, not permission to assemble an arbitrary hybrid pack.
Performance: memory, CPU, and storage
No authoritative Prominence II benchmark establishes a universal RAM amount, processor requirement, or supported player count. Actual demand changes with the pack release, world-generation work, view distance, simulation distance, chunk pregeneration, storage speed, and the number of concurrent players. Provider estimates and individual anecdotes are not reliable specifications for every installation.
Begin with the pack’s supplied start script and conservative distance settings. Monitor operating-system memory, CPU utilization, disk activity, startup time, and the server’s tick behavior while several players explore. Increase memory only when those measurements show pressure; allocating more memory than the machine can back with physical RAM can make the host less stable.

- Stop the server cleanly before taking a full offline copy of the world.
- Back up
server.properties, whitelist and operator files, the start scripts, and the pack’s configuration directories as well as the world folder. - Store at least one copy outside the live server directory; a disk failure or accidental deletion must not remove both copies.
- Before every pack or loader update, make a dated backup and test whether it can be restored to a separate directory.
- Keep a short change log containing the pack release, loader version, Java version, settings changes, and update date.
- Use a whitelist for a private group and grant operator status only when a player needs it.
Never update by overwriting a running server. Stop it, preserve the old directory, apply the change to a copy or a clearly identified new directory, and retain the previous release until the new world has loaded successfully.

Troubleshoot the common failures
The script says Java is missing or uses the wrong version
Run java -version in the same account and environment that launches the server. If it is not Java 17, correct PATH or edit the script to use the intended 64-bit Java executable. A panel host may have a Java selector separate from the operating system’s command line; verify both.
The server stops with a dependency or loader error
Check logs/latest.log and the crash report for the first unresolved mod, Minecraft-version mismatch, or loader requirement. Confirm that every server jar came from the same Hasturian Era release and that no old Forge or vanilla files remain in the directory. If the failure began after an update, restore the backup and test the prior release before changing anything else.

Compare the client’s pack release, Minecraft version, Fabric loader, and mod list with the server. Remove manually added client mods that are not part of the official profile, then launch again. Do not “fix” the error by downloading a similarly named mod from an unrelated release.
The server works locally but friends cannot join
Check the host firewall, the router’s destination IP, the forwarded port, and whether the friend is testing from outside the home network. Confirm that the server is listening on the port shown in server.properties. A local connection proves the process is running; it does not prove that public NAT is configured.
The world lags during exploration
Review tick behavior, CPU use, memory pressure, disk activity, view distance, and simulation distance while the lag occurs. Lower the distances temporarily and avoid changing Java, Fabric, and the pack at the same time. Pregenerate only after confirming that the machine has enough storage and that the process can run without disrupting players.
What to verify with a managed-host provider
Before uploading a world or paying for a plan, obtain written confirmation of all of the following:
- Support for Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric, and the exact Prominence II: Hasturian Era release.
- The Java runtime version available to that release, including whether you can select Java 17.
- Included memory, storage type and capacity, CPU allocation, and any player or process limits.
- Whether the panel installs the official server pack, accepts your archive, or generates files through an installer.
- Backup frequency, retention, restore procedure, and whether backups consume your storage quota.
- Datacenter regions and expected network limits for the players who will connect.
- Firewall controls, port assignment, file-manager access, console access, and the ability to pin a release.
- Cancellation, data-export, and world-download terms so you can leave with an intact copy.
If the provider cannot identify the exact pack release or Java environment, treat its generic “Fabric modpack” support as unverified.
A reliable update procedure
- Read the new release’s notes and record its exact version.
- Stop the current server with
stop. - Copy the entire world, configuration, scripts, and logs to a dated backup location.
- Install the new server pack in a new directory rather than deleting the known-good installation.
- Apply only the settings you intentionally carried forward, checking for renamed or removed options.
- Start the new directory, inspect the log for dependency errors, and test with a copy of the world first when the update is substantial.
- Update every player’s client to the same release before opening the server to the group.
Keep the previous directory until players have connected, the world has saved normally, and you have confirmed that backups and rollback work.
Quick Recap
Final deployment checklist
- The project is identified as Prominence™ II: Hasturian Era, not Prominence II RPG.
- The server pack and all clients use the same recorded release.
- Minecraft is Java Edition 1.20.1 and the installation uses a compatible Fabric loader.
- The server’s command resolves to a 64-bit Java 17 runtime for the documented configuration.
- The pack is extracted into a clean directory with adequate SSD space and a separate backup location.
- The EULA was read and accepted before setting
eula=true. server.propertieshas deliberate level, difficulty, distance, whitelist, and port settings.- The first successful launch was followed by a review of
latest.logand any crash reports. - The host firewall and, where applicable, router/NAT allow the configured port.
- A test from outside the host network succeeds before friends are invited.
- World and configuration backups exist and have a known restore procedure.
