Its listed Fabric releases target Minecraft 1.20.1. Minecraft 1.19.2 files belong to Prominence I (Legacy), a different pack. Decide which pack your players have before downloading anything: use Prominence I for a genuine 1.19.2 server, or move everyone to Prominence II on 1.20.1.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
First, identify the Prominence pack you actually need
The name “Prominence” covers more than one modpack generation. Treating Prominence I and Prominence II as interchangeable is the fastest way to produce an unjoinable server.

| Prominence I (Legacy) | 1.19.2 | Fabric file listed | This is the option for a 1.19.2 player group. The 1.19.2 listing is identified as Prominence I Legacy, not Prominence II. |
| Prominence II (Hasturian Era) | 1.20.1 | Fabric; client and server | This is the newer pack. A Prominence II client and server should be installed for Minecraft 1.20.1. |
Modrinth’s Prominence II listing identifies Fabric and Minecraft 1.20.1 compatibility, and the recent Prominence II files shown on CurseForge also target 1.20.1. A separate CurseForge entry identifies a Prominence I (Legacy) Fabric file for 1.19.2. Those are separate version lines, not alternate launch settings for the same pack.
Choose between 1.19.2 Legacy and Prominence II 1.20.1
Stay on 1.19.2 with Prominence I (Legacy)
Choose the Legacy line when your players already have a 1.19.2 Fabric installation, or when a world and mod list were built specifically for Prominence I. Do not install a Prominence II server and attempt to change its Minecraft version to 1.19.2. The available evidence does not establish that as a supported conversion, and changing the version can leave both the server and clients with incompatible mods.

Move to 1.20.1 with Prominence II
Choose Prominence II when you want the newer pack and can have every player install its 1.20.1 Fabric client. The server package, Minecraft version, Fabric loader, and mods must come from the same Prominence II release line. A player running the 1.19.2 Legacy client is not a compatible client for this server.
Use the existing client setup as the tie-breaker
- If most players already launch Prominence I on 1.19.2, keep that group together and obtain the matching Legacy server files.
- If you are starting a new world, select one Prominence II release for 1.20.1 and distribute that exact release to everyone.
- If players are split between the two packs, run separate servers or agree on one pack; do not mix their files in one installation.
Requirements for a Prominence II 1.20.1 server
Java 17
Setup guides for Prominence II specify Java 17, and that recommendation matches Minecraft 1.20.1. Install or select a Java 17 runtime for the server process. If your hosting panel offers several Java choices, select the entry explicitly labelled 17 rather than assuming the panel’s default is suitable.
The pack’s variables.txt is also reported to set 17 as the recommended Java version. That file is a useful cross-check, but it does not make an older or newer Java runtime compatible automatically.
Server files for one exact pack release
Download the server package corresponding to the release your players will install. Do not combine a server folder from one release with a client profile from another. The available guides cite several different Prominence II numbers, including 4.1.2, 4.0.5 and 3.9.x/4.0.x, while a Modrinth version page lists 3.1.50. Because those references conflict, select the release from the same official listing you use for the client and write that number down before setup.

Memory
Guide-level recommendations are not official hardware requirements. One guide suggests at least 8 GB for three to four players, adding 1 GB for each additional player. Another suggests about 8 GB for roughly six players. Treat those figures as starting points, not a guarantee: world size, exploration, view distance, other applications and the number of simultaneous players affect the result.
Set the allocation in variables.txt before opening the server to players. Use the file’s existing memory fields rather than creating a second set of conflicting values. Leave enough memory for the operating system and any control panel; assigning all physical RAM to Java can make the machine unstable.
Install Prominence II on a Linux or Windows machine
1. Prepare an empty server directory
- Create a new directory dedicated to this server. An empty directory prevents old mods, worlds or configuration files from being mistaken for part of the selected release.
- Extract the matching Prominence II server files into that directory. Keep the supplied folder structure intact; the included scripts and configuration files expect those paths.
- Confirm that Java 17 is the runtime selected for this directory or hosting service.
2. Set memory before the first player joins
- Open
variables.txtin the extracted server directory. - Locate the memory or RAM settings supplied by the pack.
- Choose an allocation appropriate to your player count, using the guide figures as a starting point: about 8 GB for a small group, with one guide’s rule of adding 1 GB per player beyond three or four.
- Save the file before launching. If you later change the allocation, stop the server cleanly, edit the file, and start it again.
3. Start the supplied script
Use the script for your operating system:
| Operating system | File to run | First-run result |
|---|---|---|
| Linux | start.sh |
The script starts the Fabric server process and downloads the required Fabric server launcher when needed. |
| Windows | start.bat |
The batch file starts the same setup process in a Windows command window. |
Run the script from the server directory so that relative paths resolve to the files you extracted. The first launch can take longer than later launches because the script retrieves the Fabric server launcher and creates the initial files.
4. Accept the Minecraft EULA
During the first start, the setup asks you to type I agree to accept the Minecraft EULA. Enter that exact response when prompted. The server cannot complete its initial setup until the EULA step is accepted. If the process stops at this prompt, read the console message, provide the requested response, and start the script again if necessary.

5. Let the initial files finish generating
Keep the console open while the first launch creates the server files. Stop only after the process indicates that startup has completed or has reported a clear error. Do not invite players while the installation is still downloading files or writing its initial configuration.
Make every player match the server
Prominence II is marked as required on both the client and server. Every player therefore needs the same Prominence II release, Minecraft 1.20.1, and Fabric-based client profile used by the server. A vanilla client, a 1.19.2 client, or a different Prominence release is not an interchangeable substitute.
- Record the exact pack version selected for the server.
- Give players that same version rather than telling them to install “the latest” independently.
- Check that everyone is launching Minecraft 1.20.1 for Prominence II, not 1.19.2 for Prominence I.
- If one player receives a missing-mod or incompatible-version message, compare that client’s pack version with the server’s before changing server files.
For a 1.19.2 installation, apply the same principle to Prominence I (Legacy): use the Legacy 1.19.2 client and the matching Legacy server package. Do not copy Prominence II mods into that folder.
Using a hosting panel instead of manual files
Some game-hosting panels provide a Modpack installation tab. The Pine Hosting guide, for example, describes selecting Prominence from Modrinth through a one-click Modpack workflow. The exact buttons vary by provider, but the important choices remain the same:
Rank #4
- Skins! We have biome settlers, city folk, town folk, and more!
- The Nether and all its inhabitants. Fight Ghasts and make friends with Pigmen
- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10
- Revamped touch controls, controller support, and a controller mapping screen
- Enhanced Weather effects! Accumulating snow and more
- Open the panel’s Modpack or installer section.
- Select the Prominence entry from Modrinth rather than a similarly named, unrelated pack.
- Choose the Minecraft and pack version that your players will use. For Prominence II, that means the 1.20.1 line.
- Allow the panel to install the server files, then select Java 17 if the panel exposes a Java-runtime setting.
- Set the panel’s memory allocation before starting the server and follow its EULA prompt.
A one-click installer does not remove the compatibility requirement. Verify the installed pack number in the panel and distribute that same number to players.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Version selection when listings disagree
Do not choose a Prominence II version solely because a guide mentions it. The cited guides refer to v4.1.2, v4.0.5 and 3.9.x/4.0.x, while the Modrinth version information cited for this setup includes 3.1.50. Those numbers may describe different publication dates or release branches. The evidence does not establish one universal version number for every installation.
Use this process:
- Open the official pack listing you intend to use.
- Select one Prominence II release that explicitly lists Minecraft 1.20.1 and Fabric.
- Download the server files for that release.
- Have every player install the identical release number.
- Keep a note of the number beside the server directory so future updates do not silently mix versions.
If a hosting panel offers a different number from the one your players already installed, cancel the automatic install or create a separate server. Changing only the server number while leaving clients untouched will normally produce mod or protocol mismatches.
Troubleshooting the common setup failures
The server is labelled Prominence II but expects 1.19.2
Recheck the download. Prominence II’s listed Fabric target is 1.20.1. A 1.19.2 file is associated with Prominence I (Legacy). Replace the package with the correct pack line instead of editing version values by hand.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Players cannot join because of mod differences
Compare the client and server release numbers first, then compare the Minecraft version. For Prominence II, both sides must be on the same 1.20.1 pack release. Reinstalling the client with the server’s exact release is safer than copying individual mod files between installations.
The launcher starts with the wrong Java version
Prominence II setup guidance calls for Java 17. Change the runtime selected by your operating system or hosting panel to Java 17, then start the supplied script again. Do not assume that a successful Java launch means the selected version is the recommended one.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The first launch stops at the EULA request
This is an expected first-run gate. Enter I agree when the script asks, allow it to finish creating files, and restart only if the script tells you to do so. Starting clients before this step has completed will not make the server ready.
The process runs out of memory or becomes unstable
Stop the server and review the RAM values in variables.txt or your hosting panel. Begin with the guide-level 8 GB suggestions, increase for a larger group where the machine allows it, and retain memory for the operating system. Avoid assigning more memory than the host can provide.
A hosting panel installed the wrong Prominence entry
Check the panel’s displayed Minecraft version and pack release before starting. If it installed a Legacy 1.19.2 package when you intended Prominence II, remove or reinstall that instance according to the panel’s controls rather than mixing files in place.
What a correct installation looks like
- The selected pack line is explicit: Prominence I Legacy for 1.19.2, or Prominence II for 1.20.1.
- The server uses Java 17 for Prominence II.
- The supplied
start.shorstart.batlaunches the extracted files from their own directory. - RAM is set in
variables.txtbefore players join. - The first launch has completed the Fabric download and EULA acceptance.
- Every client uses the same pack release and Minecraft version as the server.
If any one of those checks fails, resolve it before troubleshooting networking or gameplay. Most apparent connection problems in this setup are actually version, loader, Java or memory mismatches.

A supported Prominence II 1.19.2 Fabric server is not established by the available release listings. For Minecraft 1.19.2, use the Prominence I (Legacy) Fabric line and obtain its matching server package. For Prominence II, host the 1.20.1 Fabric release: use Java 17, configure RAM in variables.txt, run the supplied startup script, accept the EULA, and give players the identical pack version.
