For the least setup, rent a managed Minecraft server that lists Project Architect 2 in its modpack installer. Select the pack, allocate at least 8 GB of RAM (12 GB is the safer starting point for a small group), let the host install it, and have every player install the identical Project Architect 2 profile for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
You can also run the server on your own machine with the Project Architect 2 server files from CurseForge, but the Java version, Forge installation procedure and router port-forwarding steps depend on the files and your environment. Those details should be confirmed from the included server instructions rather than guessed.

Identify the right pack before you order anything
The server you want is Project Architect 2. Its server-file listings target Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. That version and loader must match the profile installed by every player.
Do not select a listing simply called “Project Architect” without checking its details. One host’s search listing associates the original Project Architect with Minecraft 1.16.5; that is a different, older pack and is not the pack covered by this guide. Look for the number 2, Minecraft 1.20.1, and Forge in the installer or server-file listing.

Choose managed hosting or self-hosting
There are two practical routes. A managed host handles the server process, panel and much of the modpack installation. Self-hosting gives you control over the machine and files but leaves Java, Forge, networking, backups and maintenance to you.
| Route | What you do | Best for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Managed host with one-click installation | Choose Project Architect 2 in the host’s installer, select a RAM tier, then use the panel to start and manage the server. | Groups that want the fastest path to a playable server. | Recurring hosting cost and dependence on the host’s panel, plan limits and upgrade policy. |
| Self-hosted machine | Download the Project Architect 2 server files, install the required software described by those files, configure the server and make it reachable to players. | Experienced administrators who already operate a suitable machine and network. | You are responsible for compatibility, security, uptime, backups, updates and troubleshooting. |
For a first server or a small group that wants to play immediately, managed hosting is usually the lower-risk choice. Self-hosting makes sense when you specifically need local control and are comfortable following Forge and network documentation.
Plan memory before installing
Host recommendations are not identical, and no pack-author RAM figure was established. The published vendor guidance is:
| Source | Published guidance | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Winternode | 8 to 12 GB RAM | A range rather than a guaranteed requirement; the upper end gives more headroom. |
| StickyPiston | 8 GB minimum | Treat 8 GB as a floor, not a promise that every player count or world will run perfectly. |
| ServerPrism | At least 8 GB for smooth multiplayer | Another minimum-style recommendation for a multiplayer server. |
A conservative starting point for a small group is 12 GB. If your plan has 8 GB, start there and watch the server’s performance and memory graphs before adding players or heavy automation. More RAM cannot fix every problem: an incorrect pack version, a stalled world save or a host CPU limit can still cause lag.

Some shared plans advertise automatic Java-memory scaling. StickyPiston also advises matching the modpack authors’ recommended memory setting in CurseForge. Since a pack-author number was not available, check whether your host controls memory automatically and follow the value shown in its panel instead of entering an arbitrary JVM setting.
Install Project Architect 2 on a managed host
Managed providers expose similar concepts but different panel labels. Use the procedure for the provider you selected.
Recommended Free Tools
Winternode
- At checkout, choose Project Architect 2 from the modpack options.
- Complete the order. Winternode says selecting the pack installs it automatically.
- Open the server panel and start the server. The host describes the installation as booting ready to join.
- If you need to change packs later, open its Modpack Manager. The manager can install the host’s own packs or a CurseForge pack.
- If the initial plan is too small, use the host’s RAM upgrade option. Winternode states that RAM upgrades are prorated; confirm the amount and billing period shown in your account before applying the change.
Wait for the first startup to finish before inviting players. A modded server may spend additional time creating configuration files and the first world.
StickyPiston
- Order a server with Project Architect 2 selected.
- Sign in to the control panel after provisioning. StickyPiston says the pack is pre-installed.
- Start the server and allow the first boot to complete.
- To use an existing world, open World Manager and drag and drop the world save as the panel instructs. Keep a separate copy of the original save before replacing the active world.
- When the server falls behind the pack version offered by the host, use the panel’s Update Server button. Read the confirmation screen and make a backup if the panel offers one before proceeding.
ServerPrism
- Open the server’s one-click installer.
- Select Project Architect 2.
- Let the installer complete. ServerPrism states that it handles the Forge and Minecraft version automatically for this selection.
- Start the server, wait for the first world creation to finish, then copy the address and port displayed in the panel for your players.
Even when the host handles Forge automatically, players still need the matching client profile. Automatic server installation does not make a vanilla client compatible.
Apex Hosting
- Open Game File in the server panel.
- Search for Project Architect 2 in the modpack dropdown.
- Choose Change Version and select the Project Architect 2 entry you intend to run.
- Use Generate New World if you want a new save rather than an existing world.
- Choose Restart Now to apply the selected pack and version.
Generating a new world can replace or reset the current world, depending on the panel state. Download a backup first if the server already contains progress you care about.

Prepare each player’s client
Every player must install the same Project Architect 2 profile on the client. A vanilla Minecraft installation, a different modpack version or the original Project Architect pack will normally fail to connect because the mod list and loader do not match.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Install the CurseForge app, which Apex recommends for this pack.
- Find Project Architect 2 in the app’s Minecraft modpacks section.
- Install the profile and launch it once so the launcher creates its files.
- Check that the profile shows Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge, matching the server listing.
- In Minecraft’s multiplayer screen, add the server address and port supplied by the host, then connect.
Have every player update or downgrade to the exact profile version selected on the server. If one person can join while another receives a mod-list or registry error, compare the profile version and loader before changing server settings.
Use an existing world or start fresh
Starting a new world
Use the host’s world-generation control when provisioning the server. Apex labels this action Generate New World. Other panels may create the world automatically on the first start. Do not interrupt that first generation unless the panel reports an error.
Uploading an existing world
StickyPiston documents a drag-and-drop workflow through World Manager. Upload the complete world save, select it as the active world in the panel and restart the server if requested. Preserve the original save locally so you can roll back if the upload is incomplete or the pack version is incompatible.
A world created with a different Minecraft version or mod set may not load correctly. Before replacing a working world, confirm that the save was created for the same Project Architect 2 profile and make a dated backup.

Keep the server and clients on one version
Modded Minecraft is sensitive to version drift. Pick one Project Architect 2 release in the host panel, then make that same release available to every player. Update the server and clients as a coordinated change rather than allowing one side to update independently.
- Record the pack name, Minecraft version and Forge loader shown in the server panel.
- Ask players to close the game before an update so no files are locked.
- Back up the world before pressing an update or change-version control.
- Update the server first, then update each client to the same profile.
- Test with one administrator account before announcing that the server is ready.
CurseForge lists Project Architect 2 server files, including 2.1 and 2.2 listings. The 2.2 server-files download is listed at 362.4 MB. File size is not a RAM requirement and does not indicate how much memory a generated world will consume.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Self-hosting with the CurseForge server files
CurseForge publishes dedicated server-file packages for Project Architect 2. A self-hosted installation begins by downloading the server-file listing that matches the client profile you intend to run.
- Choose the Project Architect 2 server-file release that matches your planned client version.
- Download the server package to a dedicated folder on the machine that will run Minecraft.
- Read the package’s included instructions and launch scripts before installing anything else. They are the authoritative place to learn which Java runtime, Forge installer step and startup arguments that release expects.
- Complete the Forge and Minecraft setup described by those files, then start the server once so it can create its configuration and world folders.
- Agree to Minecraft’s EULA in the manner requested by the server files, configure the server properties and keep the server directory backed up.
- Make the machine reachable to your players using the network procedure appropriate to your operating system and router. Do not expose a port until you understand the firewall and access implications.
- Give players the same Project Architect 2 client profile and the address and port they need to connect.
The exact Java version, Forge installer commands and port-forwarding procedure were not established for this pack here. They can change with the server-file release and your operating system, so copying commands from an unrelated modpack is unsafe. Follow the README or scripts shipped with the selected release and the current Forge documentation for that release.

Troubleshoot the failures you are most likely to see
The server starts, but a player gets a mod mismatch
Verify that both sides use Project Architect 2 rather than the original Project Architect, then compare Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge and the exact modpack release. Reinstalling the client profile is often faster than manually adding or removing individual mods.
The panel says the server is online, but nobody can connect
Copy the address and port from the host panel exactly. Confirm that the server has completed startup rather than still generating its first world. For a self-hosted machine, check the local firewall and router configuration using the instructions for your operating system; managed hosts generally expose the required connection details in their panel.
The server runs out of memory or becomes sluggish
Check the plan’s assigned RAM first. The published guidance ranges from an 8 GB minimum to 12 GB, so moving a small group from 8 GB to 12 GB is the conservative first adjustment. If the panel already scales Java memory automatically, do not add conflicting manual flags. Also check for a version mismatch or a world that was upgraded without a backup.
An update appears to remove or reset the world
Stop making further changes, locate the most recent world backup and compare the active world selection in the panel. Controls such as Generate New World can create a new save, while an update may change which directory is active. Restore only after stopping the server and confirming the backup belongs to the correct pack version.
