For a Palworld dedicated server that accepts Steam, Xbox, PS5 and Mac players, install the dedicated server, set CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac) in PalWorldSettings.ini, start it with -publiclobby, and forward UDP port 8211 to the server computer. Set a public server name, public IP address and public port as well. Console players generally find the server through Palworld’s in-game community list rather than a direct IP entry.

Several details remain uncertain because current setup guides disagree: whether UDP 27015 is required or merely improves listing, whether Mac is supported in every current build, when full crossplay was introduced, and whether TCP RCON on port 25575 is still supported. The procedure below separates the consistent settings from those items you must verify against your server build.

A crossplay server has two parts: the dedicated-server process and the network path that lets players reach it. Prepare these items first:
- A Windows or Linux machine that can remain online while people play. The available configuration paths are for WindowsServer and LinuxServer installations; no Mac-specific hosting procedure is established.
- The Palworld dedicated-server package installed on that machine.
- Router and firewall access so you can create inbound UDP rules.
- The machine’s public IPv4 address, or a stable DNS name that resolves to it.
- A plan for keeping the server and every player on exactly the same Palworld version.
- A test account on each platform you intend to support, especially an Xbox or PS5 account for community-list testing.
Back up the configuration file before editing it. A syntax error can prevent the server from starting, and a backup gives you a quick way to return to a known-good file.

How Palworld crossplay discovery works
CrossplayPlatforms controls which platform families may connect. The commonly documented four-platform value is:
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac)Some guides describe those entries as enabled by default, but do not assume that a newly created or upgraded server retained the default. Open the file and verify the value explicitly. To limit the audience, remove platforms from the list; for example:
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox)Older instructions use a key named AllowConnectPlatform. Current troubleshooting guidance identifies that name as outdated, so use CrossplayPlatforms unless the exact server build documentation says otherwise.
Crossplay permission and discoverability are separate. A server can allow multiple platforms yet remain absent from the console community list if it lacks the public-lobby flag, has an empty public IP, or has an incorrectly forwarded game port.
Install the dedicated server and find its configuration
Install Palworld’s dedicated-server package using the distribution method appropriate to your operating system. After the first launch, stop the process before editing settings. The relevant file locations reported by current setup guides are:

If the file is not present, start the dedicated server once, allow it to create its folders, stop it cleanly, and then check the path again. Edit the file with a plain-text editor rather than a word processor. Preserve parentheses, commas, quotation marks and the existing key names exactly.

Configure the platform list
Allow Steam, Xbox, PS5 and Mac
Add or replace the platform setting with:
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac)Do not add spaces or quote the platform names unless your installed template already uses a different, documented syntax. Save the file and restart the server after every configuration change; the running process normally reads these values only at startup.
Allow only selected platforms
For a smaller test, use a restricted list:
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox)A player whose platform is not listed should be rejected even if that player knows the server’s address. This makes a restricted list useful for diagnosing whether a failure is caused by crossplay policy or by networking.
Make the server visible to console players
Add -publiclobby to the dedicated-server startup arguments. One documented Windows example is:
PalServer.exe -port=8211 -players=32 -publiclobbyThe -players=32 value is an example from a setup guide, not a universal capacity recommendation. Choose a player count your hardware and configuration can sustain.

The public-lobby flag is intended to register the server in the in-game community list. Console players usually rely on that list to find dedicated servers. Sources disagree about whether every console build requires the list, so test an Xbox and a PS5 account rather than promising that direct connection will work on those platforms.
Set the server name, public IP and public port
In PalWorldSettings.ini, provide values for the fields that identify the server externally. A concrete example is:

PublicPort=8211The address 198.51.100.24 is from a documentation-only range; replace it with the server’s real public address or use the public hostname format supported by your build. An empty PublicIP is repeatedly identified as a common reason a self-hosted server does not appear in the community list even when -publiclobby is present.
PublicPort describes the external port advertised to the community listing. It does not, by itself, change the port on which the process listens. If your router maps a different outside port to the server’s internal 8211, advertise that outside value and make the forwarding rule match it. When no translation is used, setting PublicPort=8211 keeps the advertised and listening ports consistent.
Forward the required network ports

Create an inbound firewall rule on the host and a port-forwarding rule on the router for UDP 8211. Point the rule at the machine running PalServer.exe or the Linux server process, using that machine’s fixed local address. If you want the broadest chance of appearing in browser listings, also forward UDP 27015 and allow it through the host firewall; treat that rule as optional until your build’s documentation confirms its status.

Do not silently substitute TCP for UDP. A TCP-only rule on 8211 is a frequent configuration error. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary router forwarding may not expose the server at all; in that case, obtain a reachable public address or host the server on a network that permits inbound traffic.
Start, join and verify the server
- Stop the server and save the edited
PalWorldSettings.ini. - Confirm that the startup command includes
-publiclobbyand uses the same game port you forwarded, normally-port=8211. - Start the process and wait several minutes for registration. A newly started server may not appear immediately.
- From a Steam client, look for the server in the appropriate community or dedicated-server list. If your setup supports direct connection, use the public address and advertised port only after verifying that the listing path works.
- From an Xbox and a PS5 account, open Palworld’s in-game community-server list and search for the exact
ServerName. - From a Mac client, perform the same search. Mac is included in the commonly listed platform set, but no Mac-specific official setup confirmation is established.
- Have one player join, remain connected for several minutes, leave, and reconnect. This catches firewall rules that permit discovery but not sustained game traffic.
Keep the server window or service logs visible during the first test. Record the exact startup arguments and configuration values that produced a successful connection so a later update can be compared against them.

Steam
Steam players are generally the easiest audience for testing because community and query-browser behavior is most often documented for Steam. A successful Steam connection does not prove that console discovery is configured correctly; still test a console account.
Xbox and PS5
Console players generally need the in-game community list. Make sure -publiclobby is present, PublicIP is not empty, UDP 8211 is reachable, and the advertised server name is distinctive enough to find. Because guides disagree about whether direct connection is available on every console build, publish the community-list method as the primary join instruction unless your own console test proves another method.
Mac
Mac appears in the same commonly documented CrossplayPlatforms value as Steam, Xbox and PS5. No Mac-specific server installation or compatibility procedure is established, and no official source confirmation was identified. Treat Mac support as a client-side compatibility check: keep the Mac game updated, use the same version as the server, and test an actual Mac account before advertising guaranteed Mac access.
Keep every installation on the same version
The server and all clients must run the same Palworld version. Update the dedicated server and player installations together, then restart the server after updating. A client on a newer or older build can fail to see the server, be rejected during connection, or behave as though crossplay is broken.

Published guides conflict on when full crossplay arrived: one dates it to the 1.0 launch, while another cites version 0.5.0. Those claims are not a safe substitute for checking the release notes and documentation for your installed build. Do not follow old instructions that tell Steam users to select a crossplay_beta branch; current guidance describes those directions as obsolete.
Understand characters, worlds and saves
Crossplay does not merge a player’s character between platforms or worlds. A dedicated server generally gives each player a character tied to that server. A character created in a local Steam, Xbox, PS5 or Mac world should not be expected to appear automatically on the dedicated server, and a character created on the dedicated server should not be assumed to transfer to another platform or another server.
Tell players to select the correct server before creating or progressing a character. Keep regular backups of the server’s save data, especially before changing versions or replacing configuration files; otherwise a mistaken migration can be difficult to reverse.
Admin access and remote management
One crossplay administration guide reports that console players cannot use a Steam ID for admin actions. In practice, do not design your moderation procedure around Steam identifiers alone when Xbox or PS5 players are present. Establish and test the administration method on the actual server build before opening the server to a larger group.

One guide treats TCP port 25575 as essential, while another calls that interface deprecated and recommends the REST API instead. Do not expose TCP 25575 just because an old tutorial lists it. First confirm that your server build supports RCON, identify the interface it documents, set a strong password, restrict the management port to trusted addresses, and test a harmless command. If the build documents a REST API as the replacement, follow that documentation rather than enabling an obsolete endpoint.
Troubleshoot a server that does not appear
Nothing appears in the community list
- Wait several minutes after startup; registration is not always immediate.
- Confirm that
-publiclobbyis in the command actually launching the server, not merely in a shortcut you no longer use. - Check that
PublicIPcontains the reachable public address and is not blank. - Verify the server name and
PublicPortin the configuration file, then restart the process. - Confirm that UDP 8211 is forwarded to the correct local machine and permitted by its firewall.
- If Steam-browser visibility is the problem, test UDP 27015 as well; sources differ on whether it is mandatory.
The server is listed but nobody can join
- Check that the router forwards UDP, not only TCP.
- Ensure the advertised port matches the router’s external port. Remember that
PublicPortdoes not change the process’s listening port. - Verify that the host’s local address has not changed. Reserve a DHCP lease or assign a stable internal address.
- Compare the server and client versions and remove any obsolete beta-branch selection.
- Test from a network outside the host’s LAN. Some routers cannot loop back to their own public address, so a local test can fail even when outside players can connect.
Steam works but Xbox or PS5 cannot connect
- Recheck
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac)and restart the server. - Have the console account search the in-game community list rather than relying on a direct-connect assumption.
- Confirm
-publiclobby,PublicIP, UDP 8211 and the exact server version. - Test with a second console account. A single account’s network restrictions can resemble a server configuration problem.
A Mac player cannot connect
- Confirm that the Mac client is on the same game version as the server.
- Verify that
Macis present inCrossplayPlatforms. - Use the community list and search the exact server name.
- If Steam, Xbox and PS5 work but Mac does not, treat it as an unresolved build-specific compatibility issue rather than changing unrelated port settings.
A practical pre-launch checklist
- Dedicated server installed on Windows or Linux.
PalWorldSettings.iniedited in the correct WindowsServer or LinuxServer directory.CrossplayPlatformsincludes every platform you intend to allow.- Startup arguments include
-publiclobbyand the intended game port. ServerName,PublicIPandPublicPortare populated and consistent with the router.- UDP 8211 is forwarded and allowed through the host firewall.

- Players understand that characters are server-specific and do not transfer automatically.
- Administration and any RCON or REST management interface have been verified for the exact build and protected from unrestricted internet access.
What is confirmed and what still needs verification
The dependable core is straightforward: use CrossplayPlatforms to select platforms, launch with -publiclobby for community discovery, forward UDP 8211, and provide a valid public IP and advertised port. The remaining decisions are build-dependent. Current third-party guides do not agree on the necessity of UDP 27015, the correct remote-administration interface, the first release with full crossplay, or Mac behavior. Check the documentation shipped with your dedicated-server build and validate each disputed item with a real client before publishing connection instructions.
