CurseForge’s compatibility guidance explains why this matching is necessary: a modpack profile carries its game version, mod loader, configurations and mods. A client with the right pack name but a different Minecraft or Forge version can still fail the connection handshake.

Choose self-hosting or managed hosting
Self-hosting on your own computer
Self-hosting gives you control over files, backups, updates and operating costs. The trade-offs are that your computer must remain on while people play, your internet connection must accept incoming traffic, and you are responsible for Java, Forge, firewall rules, backups and recovery.
Managed CurseForge hosting
CurseForge’s official server guide documents a hosted flow for modpacks that have a matching server pack. It says the service can deploy the pack without manual file uploads or port forwarding. The documented sequence is to choose the modpack, choose a plan, choose a region, enter server details and pay.
Before paying, check that Frozenopolis appears in the current server picker. Confirm the displayed RAM and player guidance, price, region availability and cancellation terms at the time you order. The guide describes paid tiers, but the available project information does not establish a Frozenopolis-specific plan, price or capacity.

Prepare a self-hosted server
1. Install the prerequisites
- Install Minecraft Java Edition on the computer that will host the server. You do not need to keep the game open while the dedicated server runs, but Java Edition is the required game edition.
- Install a Java runtime compatible with the Forge build you will use. Because no exact Java build is stated for Frozenopolis, use the requirement shown by that Forge installer and keep the runtime consistent between setup and later launches.
- Create a dedicated, writable directory for the server. Keeping the server away from a normal client installation makes backups, permissions and troubleshooting easier. Use a short path with no cloud-sync software changing files underneath it.
2. Download matching files
- Obtain the Frozenopolis release you intend to run. For the latest release identified in the project listing, that is
Frozenopolis-1.0.zip, dated July 14, 2023. - Download
Frozenopolis_server_pack.ziplisted for Minecraft 1.19.2 Forge. If the project lists a newer release when you set up the server, take the server pack from that same release instead of mixing files. - Download the corresponding Forge server installer or server files for Minecraft 1.19.2. The exact Forge build is release-specific and is not stated by the project information, so record the build you selected; clients must use that same Forge profile.
- Keep the original archives until the server has started successfully. They provide a clean reference if a file is accidentally deleted or an update needs to be reversed.
3. Run Forge setup in the server directory
- Place the Forge installer or server files in the dedicated directory.
- Run the Forge server setup with that directory as its working location. Follow the installer’s prompts and let it generate the server libraries, configuration structure and launch files.
- Extract the contents of
Frozenopolis_server_pack.zipinto the same server directory, preserving the archive’s folder structure. If the archive contains a specific instructions file, follow it before replacing or merging folders. - Do not start by adding extra mods or client-only files. First test the pack exactly as supplied; additional files make an incompatibility error harder to diagnose.
4. Perform the first launch
- Use the Forge-generated launch script or command rather than a plain vanilla server command. Forge builds can generate different script names, so use the file created by your selected installer.
- The first launch may stop after creating initial files. Read the console output and locate the generated EULA file.
- Read Minecraft’s EULA. Only if you agree to its terms, edit the generated EULA setting as instructed by the file, then save it.
- Start the Forge launch script again. Let it finish generating the world, configurations and any pack-specific data before inviting anyone.
5. Test locally before opening access
- Connect from the host computer using the server address appropriate for a local connection. A local test isolates mod and Java problems from router and firewall problems.
- Enter the world, move through several areas and watch the server console. Look for missing dependencies, duplicate-mod messages, rejected registry entries or version errors.
- Stop the server cleanly from its console after the test. Do not terminate the process while it is saving the world.
- Back up the world and configuration directories before changing Forge, the pack release or any settings.
Let friends connect from outside your home
A self-hosted server must be reachable from the players’ networks. Confirm that the server is listening on its configured port, that the host operating system’s firewall permits the Java server process, and that the home network forwards the chosen listening port to the computer running Forge. The exact port and router screens vary by installation, so use the port shown in the server configuration rather than assuming a value.
Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot, instead of testing only from inside the same home network. If local players can join but outside players cannot, the usual fault is the network path, firewall or router rule rather than the modpack. If you cannot configure inbound access, the documented managed CurseForge route avoids manual home-router port forwarding; the available information does not provide Frozenopolis-specific instructions for third-party tunnels or overlay networks.
Give friends the address and port required by your server, along with the exact Minecraft version, Forge profile and Frozenopolis release. A correct network address cannot compensate for a mismatched client profile.

Install the matching client profile
- Install Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2 in the launcher used by each player.
- Install the Forge profile that corresponds to the server’s selected Forge build.
- Import or install the same Frozenopolis release on every client. For the release identified in the project listing, use
Frozenopolis-1.0.zip; do not substitute only the visible mod names. - Launch once and allow the profile to create its local configuration files.
- Connect only after the server has completed startup. If the client reports an incompatible mod list, compare the complete profile and server files rather than removing individual mods at random.
CurseForge describes modpack profiles as bundles containing the loader, configurations and mods. That is why copying a few jar files into another Forge installation is not a reliable installation method.
RAM, CPU and player capacity
No authoritative Frozenopolis-specific minimum RAM, recommended allocation or tested player cap is published. Do not treat a generic Forge number as a validated requirement for this pack. World generation, entity activity, view distance, other running software and the number of simultaneous players all affect the result.
Start with the memory available on the host and the Java/Forge guidance for your selected build, leaving enough memory for the operating system. Then measure the actual server under the way your group plays:

- Watch the server console for repeated pauses, out-of-memory errors or tick-time warnings.
- Have the expected number of players explore new terrain, use machines or structures supplied by the pack, and travel between biomes.
- Increase or decrease the Java allocation in small steps while keeping the same world and pack release, recording what changed.
- Do not allocate all physical memory to Java; the operating system and client applications still need headroom.
A managed host’s plan table may show RAM and player guidance, but those figures are provider-level guidance, not a Frozenopolis benchmark. Verify what the provider actually assigns to the selected plan and region.

“Incompatible mod list” or handshake errors
- Compare Minecraft version first: both sides must be 1.19.2.
- Compare the Forge build, not just the word “Forge” in the launcher.
- Compare the Frozenopolis release and confirm that the server pack and client profile came from that release.
- Compare the actual mod and configuration files. A leftover jar from another pack can trigger the same symptom as a missing dependency.
The server stops during startup
Read the first meaningful error in the server log, not only the final “server stopped” line. Check Java compatibility with the selected Forge build, missing dependencies, duplicate mods, directory permissions and available memory. Restore the clean server-pack files if you experimented with additions, then start again before changing more than one variable.
The world or configuration became corrupted after an update
- Stop the server cleanly.
- Preserve the failed directory so logs can be reviewed.
- Restore the pre-update world and configuration backup.
- Apply one release or Forge change at a time and test before making another change.
Never test an uncertain update on the only copy of a world. A backup made after corruption is not a recovery plan.

Friends cannot connect, but local testing works
Verify that the process is listening on the configured port, the host firewall allows it, and the router forwards that port to the correct internal computer. Check that the host’s local address has not changed. A managed CurseForge server avoids the home-router forwarding step according to its official guide.

Have the player launch the pack by itself before connecting, then inspect the client log for the named mod or registry entry. Reinstall the complete matching profile rather than deleting a mod from the server; removing one side usually creates a new mismatch.
Backups and routine maintenance
Before every change
- Announce a maintenance stop and let the server finish saving.
- Copy the world directory, server configurations and any pack-specific data to a separate location.
- Record the Minecraft version, Forge build and Frozenopolis release currently running.
When updating
- Read the release notes and obtain the matching server pack, not only the client archive.
- Copy the existing server directory or create a separate test directory.
- Apply the new release there and launch it against a backup copy of the world.
- Join with a client updated to the same Minecraft, Forge and Frozenopolis versions.
- Only replace the live server after startup, connection and world checks succeed.
Keep players synchronized
Publish one short version line for your group, such as “Minecraft 1.19.2, Forge build recorded by the host, Frozenopolis release 1.0.” Update that line whenever the server changes. It prevents players from guessing which profile to launch and makes handshake errors easier to resolve.
Which hosting method fits your group?
- Choose self-hosting if you can leave a computer running, manage firewall and router settings, and maintain backups. It is the most flexible option when you want direct access to logs and files.
- Choose managed CurseForge hosting if you want a guided deployment with no manual uploads or home-router port forwarding. Confirm Frozenopolis support, current plan details, region and cancellation terms before paying.
- Delay inviting players if you cannot identify the exact Minecraft version, Forge build or pack release. Fixing that identity first is faster than troubleshooting a vague connection failure.
The reliable setup is not defined by a particular RAM number or player promise. It is a matched 1.19.2 Forge server pack, identical client profiles, a tested network path and a backup taken before every change.
