The reliable way to host Forever Stranded is to use the official Forever Stranded Server Pack V-2.0.9, run its included Forge setup or launch script with a compatible 64-bit Java 8 installation, accept the Minecraft EULA, and give every player the same Minecraft 1.10.2, Forge, and modpack version. You can run it on your own computer or deploy it with a managed host; the first option gives you control and avoids a hosting subscription, while the second removes much of the network administration.
Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
The server pack contains more than the mods themselves. Extract it as a complete set, including Forge libraries, configurations, scripts, and world or template files. Mixing files from another release is one of the fastest ways to create connection and startup errors.

What Forever Stranded is and which files you need
Forever Stranded is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.10.2. Its scenario begins with a crash landing on a dry planet, then combines quest progression with heat, water, and food management. The project also includes a hardcore map. The official CurseForge project identifies V-2.0.9, released March 30, 2024, as its latest release and provides a matching Forever Stranded Server Pack V-2.0.9.
CurseForge’s project description captures the premise as “Forever alone on a dry hot world can you survive and rebuild” and warns that “The first challenge you will have to face is getting water to cope with the heat.” The project page showed a changing total-download counter of 2.9 million when it was crawled in 2026; that number is a platform counter, not a permanent measure of current activity.

Client files versus server files
The client release is what each player installs in a Minecraft 1.10.2 Forge instance. The server pack is the set of files the host runs. Download both from the official project’s files page and make sure the release labels match exactly. A client on one Forever Stranded release should not be paired with a server pack from another.
Host prerequisites
- A 64-bit operating system and a 64-bit Java installation.
- A clean directory in which you can keep the server pack, its libraries, configs, scripts, and world data together.
- Enough physical memory for the operating system and the Java heap. The pack’s exact requirement varies with player count, loaded chunks, and other activity, so watch the first boots rather than assigning all available RAM.
- Permission to run Java programs and, for internet play, permission to change the host firewall and network or router rules.
- A backup location separate from the live world directory.
Download the matching Forever Stranded server pack
- Open the official Forever Stranded files page on CurseForge.
- Select the client release you intend to play and note its complete version label.
- Download Forever Stranded Server Pack V-2.0.9 when using the latest listed release, or choose the server pack with the same label as an older client release you deliberately selected.
- Keep the downloaded archive unchanged until you have verified its version. Do not combine its
mods, config, libraries, or scripts with files from a different pack release.
If you are moving an existing world, make a complete copy before replacing anything. World data can depend on the mod and configuration versions that created it.

Install the server on your own computer
1. Extract the archive as a complete set
Create a dedicated server directory and extract the server pack into it. Preserve the directory structure supplied by the pack, including Forge libraries, mods, configuration files, world or template files, and every launch or setup script. Running a script from a different working directory can make relative paths fail, so keep the script and the extracted files together.
Do not delete files merely because their names look client-oriented. The server pack is assembled to provide the files that Forge and this modpack expect. If your operating system asks whether to merge folders, allow the archive’s structure to be retained rather than flattening it.
2. Run the supplied setup or launch script
Use the script included with the server pack for your operating system. On its first run it may install or verify Forge libraries and create initial files. Leave the terminal or console visible: its first error is usually more useful than the later errors produced when the process stops.

If the script cannot find Java, edit its Java path or make the intended Java executable available to the account that runs the server. Avoid launching a random Forge jar from another directory; the supplied script normally carries the arguments and file locations the pack expects.
3. Read and accept the EULA
At the EULA prompt, read the Minecraft EULA and accept it only if you agree to its terms. Set the generated EULA setting as instructed by the server, then start the same script again. A server that stops immediately after creating an EULA file is usually waiting for this step, not suffering a mod failure.
4. Confirm that Forge finishes loading
Wait for the console to show that the server has completed startup and is ready for connections. The first launch can take longer while libraries, configs, and world data are created. If it stops, capture the first Java, Forge, or missing-library error and fix that before responding to the cascade of secondary messages.
Choose and verify the Java runtime
Forever Stranded targets Minecraft 1.10.2 and an older Forge generation. For this release, verify the Java executable referenced by the included script and use a compatible 64-bit Java 8 runtime when the script or Forge requires it. The FTB server guide notes that its installer can download the appropriate Java version and that memory needs depend on the modpack; that is useful guidance for selecting a runtime, but it does not replace checking the Forever Stranded script.
Symptoms of the wrong Java
- The console reports an unsupported class version or another Java-version error before Forge loads.
- The script appears to run and closes immediately without creating a usable server log.
- Forge fails during library installation even though the archive was extracted completely.
- The script is using a different Java installation than the one you tested interactively.
Check the Java path in the script and make sure it resolves to a 64-bit installation. If several Java versions are installed, do not assume the operating system’s default is the one the script uses. Change the script deliberately, restart the server, and inspect the new first error if startup still fails.

Set the server’s memory safely
The launch script normally contains Java heap options such as the starting and maximum heap values. Set them to a practical value for your machine and player group, but leave enough memory for the operating system, Java itself, and any other services on the host. Assigning nearly all physical RAM to Minecraft can cause swapping or make the entire machine unresponsive.
Start conservatively, observe the server during world creation and normal play, and increase the maximum only when the logs or sustained memory pressure show a need. A managed-host plan’s advertised RAM is not a universal Forever Stranded requirement; it is an allocation for that provider’s environment. For a self-hosted machine, the correct value depends on the number of players, view distance, loaded chunks, and what else the computer is doing.
What to watch after changing heap values
- Repeated long pauses while Java collects memory.
- The operating system running out of free memory.
- Out-of-memory errors during world generation or when several players explore separate areas.
- A server that starts successfully but becomes unstable only after a busy session.
Change one setting at a time and keep a copy of the working script. If a new value prevents startup, restore the previous value rather than changing mods or world files unnecessarily.
Make the client and server identical
Every player must use Minecraft 1.10.2, the Forge version expected by the selected pack release, and the same Forever Stranded release as the server. Have players install the matching client file from the official project page, not a similarly named release or a different version number.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Pre-connection checklist
- Read the exact Minecraft version in the launcher or instance.
- Confirm that Forge is installed for 1.10.2.
- Confirm that the Forever Stranded release label matches the server pack label.
- Remove duplicate or manually added mods that are not part of the selected client pack.
- Close and relaunch the instance after changing its modpack or Forge version.
A modded connection can fail before the player sees a useful explanation when even one of these values differs. Check versions on both sides before troubleshooting ports or Java.

Connect on a local network
For players on the same home or office network, first let the server finish starting, then share the host computer’s private network address. The connecting player enters that address in Minecraft’s multiplayer screen, adding the server port if the server configuration uses a non-default value. The exact address is different for every network, so use the host’s current local IPv4 address rather than the public address.
The host firewall may ask whether Java can accept connections. Allow the server process on the appropriate private network profile. If the firewall rule was created for an old Java installation, update it for the executable that the Forever Stranded script actually launches.
Make the server reachable by friends over the internet
Remote access requires more than starting the Java process. The host must be reachable through the firewall and the network device that separates the host’s private address from the internet.
- In the server configuration, identify the port on which the process is listening.
- Give the host computer a stable private address, or create a router reservation, so a forwarding rule does not point to a different device later.
- Allow that port through the host operating system’s firewall for the server process.
- In the router, forward the configured port to the host’s private address. Router labels and screens differ by manufacturer and hosting environment.
- Find the connection’s current public address and share it with friends, including the port when required. Do not share the host’s private LAN address with people outside the network.
- Test from outside the home network, such as with a friend’s connection or a suitable external test, while the server is running.
If LAN players can connect but remote players cannot, check the public address, the forwarding target, the firewall rule, and whether the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT. Carrier-grade NAT can prevent inbound forwarding even when the router appears correctly configured; in that case, ask the provider about a reachable address or use a hosting environment that supplies one.
The official Forever Stranded material does not prescribe a single router model or forwarding procedure, so the exact clicks depend on your router, operating system, and provider. Never assume that a forwarding rule from another game uses the same port as the value in this server’s configuration.

Operate the server safely
Back up before changes
Stop the server cleanly before copying its world directory. Keep dated backups outside the live server directory and retain at least one copy on another disk or machine. Back up before changing mods, configurations, Forge files, or the Forever Stranded release. If an update damages a world, the backup gives you a recovery path instead of forcing you to continue with partially converted data.

- Record the current client and server release labels.
- Stop the server and make a complete backup.
- Prepare a separate test directory for the new server pack.
- Install the new pack as a complete set rather than overwriting selected mods or libraries.
- Test startup and a copy of the world first.
- Give players the matching client release only after the test is successful.
Do not copy a newer mods folder into an older server or combine configurations from different releases. If you decide not to update, restore the previous complete directory and its matching client version.
Keep the console and logs available
Leave the server console accessible during the first boot and after changes. Record the first meaningful error, the Java executable in use, the pack release, and the last change you made. This information is more actionable than a screenshot of the final cascade of errors.
Self-hosting, managed hosting, or CurseForge Servers?
There are three practical deployment patterns. The right choice depends less on the pack’s name than on how much network administration you want to perform and whether a provider currently supports this exact server pack.
| Option | Advantages | Responsibilities and limits | Cost treatment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-hosting | Full control over files, Java, backups, configuration, and upgrade timing; no separate game-server subscription. | You provide the computer, RAM, storage, backups, firewall rules, router forwarding, public reachability, and uptime. | No recurring host fee is established here; electricity, internet service, and hardware costs still apply. |
| Managed Forge hosting | Deployment assistance, a dashboard, a datacenter region, and provider-managed infrastructure can reduce setup work. | Monthly billing, provider limits, plan-specific CPU and storage, and the need to confirm support for the exact Forever Stranded server pack. | Recurring price depends on the provider and plan; verify the live offer. |
| CurseForge Servers | A streamlined workflow when the exact modpack and server pack are supported by the service. | Availability, supported version, backups, controls, and checkout price for Forever Stranded must be confirmed before purchase. | Current price was not established; check the live listing and checkout. |
How the official hosted workflow is described
CurseForge’s hosting guide describes a flow of choosing a modpack with a matching server pack, selecting a plan, selecting a region, entering server details, and purchasing. Its example plan sizes are:
| Example allocation | Example player range in the guide | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 4 GB RAM | 1–5 players | Example/current guide value; verify the live offer and Forever Stranded support. |
| 8 GB RAM | 6–15 players | Example/current guide value; verify the live offer and Forever Stranded support. |
| 12 GB RAM | 16–25 players | Example/current guide value; verify the live offer and Forever Stranded support. |
The guide also presents different CPU and monthly-price tiers, but those figures can change and do not establish a Forever Stranded-specific requirement. Before paying, confirm the exact pack version, server-pack availability, region, backup access, cancellation terms, and the resources included in the selected plan.
Troubleshoot the most common failures
The server closes immediately
- Read the first error in the console or log.
- Confirm that the script points to a compatible 64-bit Java 8 executable when required.
- Check that the complete server-pack directory was extracted and that Forge libraries were not removed.
- Confirm that the EULA setting has been accepted.
- Restore the last known-good heap values if the failure began after a memory change.
Players receive a mod or version mismatch
- Compare Minecraft 1.10.2 on both sides.
- Compare the Forge version used by the client and server.
- Compare the complete Forever Stranded release label, not only the pack’s name.
- Reinstall the matching client release if extra, missing, or duplicate mods remain.
Forge reports missing libraries or files
Stop the process, verify that the server archive was extracted without flattening its folders, and run the supplied setup or launch script again. Do not download an unrelated library set or copy files from another release. If the same error returns, use the first library or path error in the log to identify what the script cannot access.
The server works on the LAN but not for friends
- Confirm that friends are using the current public address.
- Check the host firewall rule and the router’s forwarding target.
- Confirm that the configured server port is the one forwarded.
- Check for carrier-grade NAT or another upstream router that blocks inbound connections.
- Test while the server process is running; a closed process cannot answer a port test.
The world became unstable after an update
Stop the server and restore the pre-change backup in a separate test directory. Revert the mod, configuration, Forge, or pack release that changed, then verify the restored world before inviting players back. Never experiment on the only copy of a world.
Quick Recap
A practical launch checklist
- Download the client release and the matching Forever Stranded Server Pack from the official CurseForge files page.
- Extract the server pack completely into a dedicated directory.
- Verify the included scripts, Forge libraries, mods, configs, and world or template files are present.
- Verify the script’s Java path and use a compatible 64-bit Java 8 runtime when required.
- Set a heap size that leaves memory for the operating system and other services.
- Run the supplied setup or launch script.
- Read and accept the Minecraft EULA, then restart the script.
- Wait for Forge and the modpack to finish loading and review the first startup log.
- Install the identical Minecraft 1.10.2, Forge, and Forever Stranded release on every client.
- For LAN play, allow the process through the private-network firewall and share the host’s private address.
- For internet play, configure the firewall, router forwarding, public address, and any upstream NAT restrictions.
- Back up the world before changing files, versions, or configurations.
