To host a Crazy Craft server, first identify the exact release you and your friends will play. Crazy Craft is a family of different modpacks, not one universal download: Crazy Craft 2.2 targets Minecraft 1.6.4, Crazy Craft 4.0 is a 1.7.10-era pack, and Crazy Craft Updated 0.13.2 targets Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge. Download the server files for that specific release, install its stated Minecraft version and modloader, add the official Minecraft Java server jar, and keep client-only mods out of the server.
Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
You can run the server on your own computer or use managed hosting. Self-hosting gives you direct control and avoids a recurring hosting bill, but you must handle the firewall, router access, backups and uptime. A managed service handles much of that administration for a monthly fee. The procedures below cover both routes without mixing files between incompatible Crazy Craft projects.

The name “Crazy Craft” is version-ambiguous. A server works only when its server files, Minecraft version, modloader and client profile belong to the same release. Do not copy a newer pack’s mods into an older installation or assume that a client folder is a ready-made server.
| Release | Minecraft target | Loader or launcher information | Server route | Maintenance note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crazy Craft 2.2 | 1.6.4 | The VoidWrath page directs players to install VoidLauncher and select Crazy Craft 2.2. A separate loader name is not stated there. | Use the official-server button in VoidLauncher and follow the files supplied for that release. | Legacy release; use its own instructions rather than current-pack assumptions. |
| Crazy Craft 4.0 | 1.7.10-era | The release page describes the older 1.7.10 generation; verify the loader in the downloaded files. | A downloadable server-pack route is provided. | Legacy release with different Java and mod compatibility considerations from modern packs. |
| Crazy Craft Updated 0.13.2 | 1.16.5 | Forge | Use the matching server files listed with the project. | The project listing shows version 0.13.2 updated August 23, 2026. |
Write down the release name and version before downloading anything. Every player should install that same release through its publisher or pack platform. If one person uses Crazy Craft Updated while another uses Crazy Craft 4.0, they are not joining the same game even though both installations are called Crazy Craft.

What you need before installing
- A dedicated server folder: Keep the server in its own directory rather than inside a personal client profile. This makes logs, configuration and backups easy to identify.
- The publisher-provided server files: A server pack contains the server-side mods, configuration and scripts expected by that release. A client instance often includes graphics, menu or other client-only mods that cannot run on a dedicated server.
- The official Minecraft Java server jar: Download the jar for the Minecraft version named by the pack. Do not substitute a jar from another version.
- The named modloader: Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, Quilt and Vanilla are separate environments. Mods are tied to both a game version and a compatible loader.
- A Java installation compatible with the selected pack: Old and new releases can require different Java generations. There is no single Java-major-version rule that covers every Crazy Craft variant, so follow the server pack’s own instructions.
- Network access for the players: For a home server, you need an account with permission to change the computer firewall and router. A managed host supplies an internet-facing endpoint instead.
- A backup location: Plan where you will copy the world, configuration and mod files before inviting players.
Self-hosting: install the server pack
1. Download one matching server pack
Open the page for the exact Crazy Craft release and choose its server download, not a random client archive. For Crazy Craft 4.0, use the downloadable server-pack route described by VoidWrath. For Crazy Craft 2.2, follow the VoidLauncher page and its official-server button. For Crazy Craft Updated 0.13.2, select the server files associated with the 1.16.5 Forge project.
Extract the archive into a new folder with a short, stable name such as crazy-craft-server. Avoid nesting the files several levels deep; many startup scripts assume that the jar, libraries, configuration and mods directory are together.
2. Install the required Minecraft version and loader
Read the server pack’s included instructions before installing anything. Install the Minecraft version named by the pack and the loader it specifies. CurseForge describes Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, Quilt and Vanilla as distinct environments; installing the wrong one can stop the profile or server from launching even when the mod files look correct.
Do not “upgrade” an old pack to a current Minecraft release. A 1.6.4 or 1.7.10-era mod cannot be made compatible merely by replacing the server jar. Likewise, a 1.16.5 Forge pack needs its 1.16.5-compatible Forge environment, not a newer Forge build chosen because it is easier to find.
3. Add the official server jar and pack files
Place the official Minecraft Java server jar for the selected version in the dedicated folder. Copy the server-pack files alongside it, preserving the archive’s directory structure. If the pack includes a launch script, use that script after checking that it points to the correct jar and Java executable.

Inspect the mods directory before the first launch. Remove clearly client-only items such as rendering, minimap or menu additions when the pack’s instructions identify them as client-only. Do not delete a mod simply because its name is unfamiliar; compare the server pack’s contents with its manifest or instructions so that required server mods remain installed.
4. Start once and accept the EULA
Start the server from its supplied script or command. A first launch normally creates configuration files and an eula.txt file, then stops until the Minecraft EULA is accepted. Open that file, read the linked terms, change the acceptance setting only if you agree, save it and start the server again.
The exact Java command and Java major version depend on the release. A generic command such as java -jar server.jar nogui is not a substitute for the pack’s launcher when the archive supplies one. If the jar has a different filename, use that filename; if the pack requires a particular Java executable, select it explicitly in the script.
5. Configure the world and access rules
After the second start, stop the server cleanly and review server.properties. Set the world name, difficulty, player limit and other gameplay choices before people build in the world. Keep the server port shown in that file; the correct value depends on the pack and any changes you make.
Enable the whitelist and add trusted players before opening the server to the internet. Grant operator privileges only to people who need administrative commands. Keep the server console and log files private because they can reveal player names, connection addresses or authentication details.

6. Allow the server through the computer firewall
Create an inbound firewall rule for the server’s listening port and the Java executable used by the pack. Windows, macOS and Linux expose different controls, so use the labels in your operating system rather than following a guide written for another platform. Permit the port only on the network profiles you actually use, and avoid disabling the firewall completely.
7. Configure the router for remote players
For friends outside your home network, forward the server port from the router to the computer running the server. The router’s menu may call this port forwarding, virtual server or NAT forwarding. Assign the server computer a reserved local address so the rule does not break when the router gives it a new address.
The exact fields and port numbers vary by router and operating system. Use the port listed in server.properties, map it to the server computer’s local address, and confirm that the rule applies to the correct internet connection. Some internet providers place customers behind carrier-grade NAT, which prevents ordinary inbound forwarding; in that situation, a managed host or another approved remote-access method is usually simpler.
8. Test locally before inviting anyone
Launch the matching client profile on the host computer and connect to the server using its local address. Confirm that the world loads, machines and dimensions from the pack work, and the console shows no repeated missing-mod or registry errors. Test a second computer on the same home network if possible.
Recommended Free Tools
Only after the local test succeeds should a remote player connect. Give that player the public address and the server port, not the host computer’s private address. Ask the remote player to use the identical Crazy Craft release, Minecraft version, loader and mod files. Keep the whitelist enabled while testing so an unknown connection cannot join.

Using managed hosting instead
Managed hosting removes most router and firewall administration. CurseForge Servers documents a hosted workflow for modpacks that have a matching server pack: choose the modpack, choose a plan, choose a region, enter server details and purchase. The service is powered by Shockbyte and billing is handled through Tebex, according to the guide modified September 8, 2026.
Hosting is not a way to make an unsupported pack compatible. If the selected Crazy Craft release has no matching server pack in the host’s catalog, you may still need to self-host or install the files manually where the provider permits it.
Published CurseForge plan descriptions
| Plan | Advertised memory | Advertised player range | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iron | 4 GB RAM | 1–5 players | $12 per month |
| Gold | 8 GB RAM | 6–15 players | $24 per month |
| Diamond | 12 GB RAM | 16–25 players | $36 per month |
These figures are the provider’s plan descriptions, not universal Crazy Craft requirements or a performance guarantee. A large world, heavily automated base or CPU-intensive mod can need more processing capacity even with few players. Start with a plan appropriate to the pack and expected concurrency, then watch memory use, tick time and restart behavior before deciding whether to scale.
Managed-host setup checklist
- Select the exact Crazy Craft release and confirm that the host lists its server pack.
- Choose a data-center region near most players. A nearby region generally reduces network latency, while a distant region can make block interaction and combat feel delayed.
- Enter a server name, administrator account and any requested game settings. Use a strong, unique password for the control panel.
- Complete the purchase through the provider’s checkout and wait for the installation to finish.
- Open the host’s file manager or console and verify that the installed pack version, loader and Minecraft version match the clients.
- Configure the whitelist, operators, world settings and scheduled backups before sharing the address.
- Connect from one client first, then add the rest of the group after the initial test succeeds.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
| Decision factor | Self-hosted at home | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront and recurring cost | No separate server subscription, but you supply the computer, electricity, storage and internet connection. | A recurring plan fee; the published CurseForge tiers are $12, $24 and $36 per month for Iron, Gold and Diamond respectively. |
| File and configuration control | Full control over files, scripts, Java selection, world data and backups. | Control depends on the provider’s panel and file access; some low-level settings may be restricted. |
| Port forwarding and firewall | You must configure the operating-system firewall and router, and solve any carrier-grade NAT limitation. | The provider supplies the public endpoint, so home-router forwarding is normally unnecessary. |
| Backups | You are responsible for copying worlds and testing restoration. | The host may offer scheduled backups, but you should verify retention and keep an independent copy. |
| Geographic latency | Players connect to your home connection; quality depends on your upstream bandwidth and location. | You select a region intended to be close to most players. |
| Support | You troubleshoot Java, mods, logs, networking and hardware yourself. | Provider support can help with the service, but it cannot fix an incompatible client or broken third-party mod. |
| Availability | The server is online only while your computer and connection are running. | The provider maintains the host infrastructure, subject to its service availability. |
Choose self-hosting when you are comfortable administering a computer and want unrestricted access to files. Choose a managed host when friends need reliable availability and you would rather pay for an endpoint, regional placement and panel-based administration than maintain router rules.

Match four identifiers
Before investigating performance or networking, compare these identifiers on every client and the server: the Crazy Craft release and build, the Minecraft version, the modloader and the mod files. A mismatch in any one can prevent launch or produce a disconnect after joining. CurseForge notes that incompatible mods or an incompatible loader selection can stop a profile from launching.
Best Value
Use a server pack, not a copied client profile
The server pack is assembled for dedicated-server use and normally includes the expected configuration and server-side dependencies. A client profile can contain graphics hooks, user-interface changes or other files that have no server counterpart. Copying the entire client mods directory is a common cause of startup crashes and “missing mod” errors.
Verify Java for the selected generation
Legacy 1.6.4 and 1.7.10-era packs do not necessarily use the same Java generation as a 1.16.5 Forge pack. If the server exits immediately, check the pack’s own README, launch script and support notes for the required Java executable. Do not apply a Java command or version from a different Crazy Craft release.

The server closes immediately
- Read the last lines of the console and the newest log rather than repeatedly double-clicking the jar.
- Confirm that the Minecraft jar and loader match the server pack.
- Check that the Java executable is installed and is the generation required by this release.
- Make sure the EULA file was saved with the accepted setting and that the server folder is writable.
- Restore the original server-pack files if you manually removed or replaced mods.
The client reports missing mods or a wrong version
- Reinstall the exact release on the client instead of adding individual files from a different pack.
- Compare the client and server mod lists and versions.
- Remove client-only mods from the server, but do not remove a dependency without checking the pack’s manifest.
- Confirm that the client is using the same loader family and Minecraft version as the server.
Local connection works but a friend cannot join
- Check that the server is still running and listening on the port shown in
server.properties. - Recheck the computer firewall rule for the active network profile.
- Confirm that the router forwards the same external port to the server computer’s current local address.
- Have the remote player use your public address and port, not a private address such as the host’s home-network address.
- If the router has no usable public address, ask the internet provider about carrier-grade NAT or move the server to managed hosting.
Players experience lag or the server stops under load
- Watch memory use and tick-time messages while the problem occurs; do not assume that adding RAM alone fixes a CPU-bound pack.
- Reduce view or simulation distance and limit expensive machines or chunk-loading features where the pack permits.
- Use a host region close to most players if the server is managed.
- Scale the host’s RAM and CPU tier with the pack size and simultaneous player count. The published 4 GB, 8 GB and 12 GB tiers are starting points, not guarantees.
Backups, updates and safe administration
Back up before every change
Stop the server before copying the world whenever possible. Keep dated copies of the world directory, server.properties, whitelist and operator files, the server-pack archive and any custom configuration. Store at least one copy outside the machine that runs the server. A backup is useful only if you can identify which pack version created it and have tested restoring it to a separate folder.
Update deliberately
Do not accept an automatic mod or loader update simply because a newer file appears. Read the release notes for the exact Crazy Craft project, make a full backup, and test the update with one client before changing the shared server. Require every player to update to the same approved build. If the update breaks the world, restore the previous server files and backup rather than mixing old and new mods.
Limit administrative access
Use the whitelist for a private group, assign operator status sparingly and keep console credentials private. Review the whitelist when someone leaves the group. On a managed host, enable the provider’s account protections and two-factor option when available; on a home server, protect the computer account and router administrator password as carefully as the game account.
A practical launch plan
- Agree on one release, such as Crazy Craft 2.2, 4.0 or Crazy Craft Updated 0.13.2.
- Record its Minecraft version, loader and server-pack source.
- Install the required Java environment and official server jar in a dedicated folder.
- Extract the matching server pack without combining it with another release.
- Start once, accept the EULA if you agree, then start again and resolve any log errors.
- Configure the world, whitelist and operators.
- Test from the host computer or local network.
- For self-hosting, configure the firewall and router; for managed hosting, select a nearby region and verify the installed files.
- Invite one remote player, confirm a complete join and play session, then share the address with the rest of the group.
- Schedule backups and document the exact pack build so future updates remain reproducible.
Bottom line: pick the route that fits your group
The technically correct Crazy Craft server starts with release identification, not with a generic jar download. Use the server pack and launcher instructions belonging to that release, keep the Minecraft version and loader identical on every machine, and test locally before exposing the server. Self-hosting is the flexible, no-subscription option when you can manage networking and backups. Managed hosting is the simpler choice when you want a public endpoint, regional placement and less home-network administration, provided the service supports your exact server pack.
