To host BigChadGuys Plus with Cobblemon, install the same Fabric 1.20.1 modpack release on every client, download the separate Server Files archive, run it with 64-bit Java 17 or newer, and make the server reachable either through router port forwarding or a tunnel. The current CurseForge release is BCG+ 2.16.6, updated October 14, 2026.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
This guide covers a local Windows, macOS, or Linux server and the equivalent managed-host workflow, including memory sizing, EULA acceptance, networking, updates, and the errors that most often stop a modded server from starting.

BigChadGuys Plus (w/ Cobblemon!) is a Fabric modpack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1. Cobblemon itself is a Pokémon mod and does not operate an official public server; you or a hosting provider run the dedicated server for the modpack.
| Item | Requirement or current value |
|---|---|
| Modpack | BigChadGuys Plus (w/ Cobblemon!) |
| Current release | BCG+ 2.16.6, shown as updated October 14, 2026 |
| Minecraft | Java Edition 1.20.1 |
| Mod loader | Fabric, using the loader version supplied or required by the selected pack release |
| Server download | The release’s separate Server Files archive, not the regular client ZIP |
| Java | 64-bit Java 17 or newer; Java 17 is the pack’s recommended choice |
| Memory | At least 4 GB; add about 1 GB for each player after the first two |
| Practical dedicated-server range | 6–8 GB for several players, depending on world activity and other workloads |
A client can launch successfully while still being incompatible with a server. Every player must use the same BCG+ release, Minecraft version, Fabric loader, and mod list as the server.

Choose between self-hosting and a managed host
Self-hosting costs no monthly hosting fee and gives you direct access to every file, but the computer must remain powered on and you are responsible for Java, firewall rules, backups, updates, and networking. A managed host charges recurring fees but usually supplies a control panel, persistent process, data-center connection, automated installation options, and support.
| Decision factor | Self-hosted computer | Managed Minecraft host |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront and recurring cost | No hosting subscription; you provide the computer, electricity, storage, and internet connection. | Recurring plan cost; compare current price, renewal terms, and cancellation policy. |
| Setup | Download, extract, install Java, edit memory, accept the EULA, and configure networking. | Upload the files or use an installer, then select the provider’s custom Java or custom-JAR setting. |
| File and mod control | Complete control over the directory, scripts, mods, configs, and world. | Usually full file access, but panel permissions and upload limits vary. |
| Port forwarding | Required for friends outside your home network unless you use a tunnel. | Normally handled by the provider’s public address; you do not configure your home router. |
| Backups and recovery | You must schedule and test your own copies. | Backup tools may be included, limited, or sold separately; verify retention and restore procedures. |
| CPU, storage, and latency | Depends on your hardware, disk, upload speed, and location. | Depends on the provider’s CPU allocation, storage, and data-center location; compare these rather than assuming every plan performs alike. |
| Support | You troubleshoot Java, Fabric, routers, and operating-system issues yourself. | Provider support can help with the panel and machine, but modpack-specific problems may remain your responsibility. |
No source establishes a controlled maximum-player count, tick-rate guarantee, uptime figure, or benchmark for this pack. Treat player capacity as a workload question, not a promised number.

- Open the BigChadGuys Plus project’s Files page on CurseForge.
- Select the exact release your group will install. If you are using the current release, choose BCG+ 2.16.6 and verify that the Minecraft version is 1.20.1.
- Open the release’s additional files and download the item explicitly labelled Server Files. The maintainers’ FAQ emphasizes that a file named like
BCG+ [version] Server Files.zipis the server archive, whileBigChadGuys Plus [version].zipis the client download. - Create a dedicated folder such as
BCG-Serveron a drive with adequate free space. Extract the archive directly into that folder rather than nesting it several levels deep.
A correct extraction should include config, mods, libraries, and resourcepacks folders, plus fabric-server-launch.jar, server.jar, start.bat, and start.sh. If you see only a config folder and overrides.json, you almost certainly downloaded the client package. Delete that extraction and repeat the download from the additional-files entry.
Install Java 17 and prepare the server
Install a 64-bit Java runtime or JDK that provides Java 17. The pack’s FAQ states that Minecraft 1.20.1 requires Java 17 or newer and recommends Java 17. Avoid accidentally using an older 32-bit Java installation that your operating system may still have registered.

- Team up with friends in eight-playeronline multiplayer and four-player splitscreen modes
- Install Java 17 for your operating system.
- Open a terminal or Command Prompt and run
java -version. - Confirm that the reported major version is 17 or higher and that the installation is 64-bit where your distribution reports architecture.
- If the command reports an older version, update your PATH or configure the launch script with the full path to the Java 17 executable.
Keep the server directory separate from the client’s installation. Do not copy a client-only overrides.json into the server and do not remove the supplied libraries or launch JARs.
Set memory for the number of players
The maintainers recommend a minimum of 4 GB of RAM for a dedicated server. Their sizing rule is to add roughly 1 GB for every player after the first two. The project listing describes 6–8 GB as a comfortable range for several players.

| Concurrent players | Suggested allocation from the pack’s rule |
|---|---|
| Two | 4 GB |
| Four | 6 GB |
| Six | 8 GB |
These figures are allocations for the Java process, not a guarantee that every computer can sustain the same world activity. Leave memory for the operating system, file cache, voice chat, backups, and any other applications on a self-hosted machine. On a managed plan, select at least the amount required by the pack and check whether the advertised RAM is dedicated or shared.
Open the supplied start.bat on Windows or start.sh on macOS/Linux in a text editor. Preserve the existing Fabric arguments and change the script’s Java heap settings to the amount you selected. Scripts commonly express these values with flags such as -Xms4G and -Xmx4G; use the variables already present in your release rather than replacing the entire command. Set both values deliberately, save the file, and keep a copy of the original script before making changes.

Start the server and accept the EULA
- On Windows, double-click
start.bat. On macOS or Linux, makestart.shexecutable if necessary withchmod +x start.sh, then run it from the server folder with./start.sh. - Watch the console during the first launch. Fabric will create additional files and may stop with a message explaining that the Minecraft EULA has not been accepted.
- Close the process, open the generated
eula.txt, read the terms, and changeeula=falsetoeula=trueonly if you agree to them. - Save the file and start the same script again. Wait until the console reports that the server has finished loading before attempting to connect.
Do not launch the server by opening random JAR files in the folder. The supplied scripts carry the pack’s Fabric arguments and are the intended entry point.
Configure local and internet access
Players on the same home network
Friends connected to the same Wi-Fi or wired LAN can normally connect using the host computer’s private IPv4 address, so internet port forwarding is not required. On the host, find the local address with your operating system’s network settings or an ipconfig/ifconfig-style command. Give players that private address and the server port shown in server.properties.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFriends connecting from outside your home
For internet play, reserve or note the host computer’s private address, allow Java through the operating system firewall, and create a router port-forwarding rule to that address. Forward the port configured in server.properties; an unmodified Java server commonly uses TCP port 25565, but verify the file instead of assuming.
- Assign the host computer a stable private address through your router’s DHCP reservation or a static configuration.
- In the router’s port-forwarding section, create a rule for the server’s TCP port, targeting that private address.
- Permit the same port in the host firewall and ensure the server process is running.
- Give remote players your current public IP address or a DNS name you control, plus the port if it is not the default.
- Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot. Testing from inside the same LAN can produce misleading results because some routers do not support hairpin connections.
If remote players still cannot connect, check all four points separately: the router rule, the host firewall, the public address, and whether your internet provider places the connection behind carrier-grade NAT. Carrier-grade NAT can prevent inbound forwarding even when the router interface appears correct.

Use a tunnel when port forwarding is impossible
If you cannot change the router or your ISP uses carrier-grade NAT, a tunnel can publish the server without an inbound router rule. The BCG+ FAQ names ngrok, with that page describing a free allowance of up to 1 GB of bandwidth, and Cloudflare Zero Trust as alternatives. Follow the selected tunnel service’s current Minecraft/TCP instructions, keep the tunnel process running while the server is online, and give players the tunnel address it provides. Tunnel endpoints, quotas, and free-plan terms can change, so verify them in the service’s current documentation.
Set up a managed host
A managed provider still needs the correct BCG+ server package. An installer that claims to support the pack may use a different release or omit optional files, so compare its result with the expected directory contents before inviting players.
- Create the server on the provider’s plan. Choose a region close to most players and enough memory for your expected group; provider pages commonly describe 6–8 GB for several players, but treat that as a planning recommendation rather than a benchmark.
- Upload the extracted server folders and JAR files through the provider’s FTP uploader or an FTP client such as FileZilla or Cyberduck.
- In the control panel, select the provider’s custom Java 17 or custom-JAR option. Panel labels differ by company.
- If the panel requires a specific filename, follow its documentation. The BCG+ FAQ gives a BisectHosting example in which
fabric-server-launch.jaris renamed tocustomjava17.jar; do not apply that filename to another provider unless its instructions call for it. - Start the server, accept the EULA in the same way as on a local machine, and inspect the console for Fabric and mod-loading errors.
- Use the provider’s backup and restore tools before making large world or mod changes, and verify that a restore actually produces a bootable copy.
The official CurseForge page recommends BisectHosting and displays the code BIGCHADGUYS for 25% off the first month. The code, eligibility, and partner terms are time-sensitive. ServerPrism and FadeHost advertise BCG+ hosting as well; compare current CPU allocation, storage, backups, support, location, renewal price, and cancellation terms rather than choosing on RAM alone.
Install the matching client for every player
- Have each player install the same BCG+ release selected for the server, including Minecraft 1.20.1 and Fabric.
- Use the pack’s normal client download for the game launcher. Do not give the server ZIP to players as their client installation.
- Make sure optional content, configuration changes, and manually added mods are identical. A client with an extra mod or a different mod version can fail during the handshake.
- Connect with the host’s private address on a LAN, or the public/tunnel address for internet play.
When updating, stop the server, make a complete copy of the world and configuration, update the server and every client to the same release, and test a spare copy before opening the updated world to everyone.

Troubleshoot the common failure points
The console says the EULA is not accepted
Stop the process, open eula.txt, read the terms, set eula=true if you accept them, save, and run the supplied start script again. Editing a different EULA file in another folder will not affect the server you launched.
fabric-server-launch.jar or libraries are missing
Compare the folder with the expected contents: config, mods, libraries, resourcepacks, the Fabric launch JAR, server.jar, and both start scripts. An extraction containing only config and overrides.json is the client package, not Server Files. Download the server archive from the release’s additional-files section and extract it again.
Java errors appear immediately
Run java -version from the same account and environment used by the script. Install or select 64-bit Java 17 or newer, then correct the script’s Java path if it still resolves to an older runtime. A managed panel may require its own custom Java 17 setting rather than the version installed on your personal computer.
Players receive a mod-list or handshake mismatch
Check the release number, Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric loader, and every mod on both sides. Reinstall the client from the exact release selected for the server instead of copying a different profile and trying to repair it file by file.
The server runs out of memory or becomes unstable
Confirm that the Java heap is actually set to the intended value in the launch script or hosting panel. Apply the pack’s sizing rule, add about 1 GB for each player beyond the first two, and leave operating-system headroom. If the machine is also running backups, a launcher, or other services, move those tasks elsewhere or increase total physical memory.
Remote friends cannot connect, but LAN players can
Verify the server port in server.properties, the router’s destination address, the firewall exception, and the public address you gave players. Check for carrier-grade NAT. If forwarding cannot work, use a tunnel such as the alternatives named by the pack FAQ.
The server starts but the world or mods behave differently after an update
Stop the server before changing files, retain a dated backup of the world, and update all clients and server files as one release set. Never overwrite a working world without a recoverable backup; test the updated copy first.
Quick Recap
A practical launch checklist
- All players and the server use the same BCG+ release, Minecraft 1.20.1, and Fabric loader.
- The download is labelled Server Files and contains the Fabric launch JAR, libraries, mods, and start scripts.
- 64-bit Java 17 or newer is selected by the script or hosting panel.
- Memory starts at 4 GB, with roughly 1 GB added per player after the first two.
- The EULA is explicitly accepted in the server folder.
- LAN players use the private address; internet players use a correctly forwarded port or an active tunnel.
- A tested backup exists before adding mods, changing configurations, or updating the pack.
