There is no single hard-reset button sequence for every LG device. First identify whether you mean an LG phone or TV, then match the procedure to its model or webOS version. A phone recovery reset and a TV factory reset erase data or settings; a TV power cycle is a separate troubleshooting step.
First, identify your LG device and what you want to fix
Check the model number and, for a TV, its webOS generation before following reset instructions. The phrase “hard reset” can mean a recovery-mode factory reset on a phone, a factory reset from a TV’s settings, or simply removing power from a TV to address a picture or sound problem. These actions have different effects.

LG’s cited instructions are from LG USA and include legacy phone manuals, so they should not be treated as universal instructions for every model or region. Use the official guide for your exact device; phone recovery-key combinations in particular can differ between models.
How to reset an LG phone from recovery mode
The procedure below is documented in the LG VS876 user guide and applies to that model, not to every LG phone. A recovery-mode factory reset deletes user data, including photos, videos, and music stored in internal memory. Back up what you can before proceeding.
- Turn the phone off.
- Press and hold Volume Down and Power/Lock together.
- When the System recovery screen appears, release the buttons.
- Use the volume keys to highlight Factory data reset, then press Power/Lock to select it.
- Review the recovery-screen prompts and confirm only if you intend to erase the phone.
Another LG phone manual documents a different key sequence, so do not try to force this combination onto a different model. Find that phone’s model-specific LG guide and follow the options shown on its recovery screen. LG VS876 user guide; LG phone support.
How to factory-reset an LG TV from its settings
The menu route depends on the TV’s software generation. LG’s guidance distinguishes these groups:

| TV generation | Settings route |
|---|---|
| 2021 and newer, webOS 6.0 or later (through webOS 25 in LG’s cited guidance) | Settings on the remote → All Settings → General → System → Reset to Initial Settings |
| 2020, webOS 5.0 | Settings → All Settings → Support → Reset to Initial Settings |
| 2019 or older, webOS 4.5 or earlier | Settings → All Settings → General → Reset to Initial Settings |
Menu labels or availability can vary by model. The reset removes installed apps and personal settings. Do not unplug or switch off the TV while the reset is running. Some models from 2024 or later offer Reset all except network settings, which can retain the current Wi-Fi connection while resetting other settings; LG does not say this option is available on every model.
