Use the Countries dimension in Search Console’s Search results Performance report to keep each country as its own row. To analyze a subset, filter or compare countries while retaining that dimension. If you create a regional total, keep it as a separate roll-up alongside the country rows; a combined total alone does not preserve country-level detail.
What “group countries” means in Search Console
Search Console’s Countries dimension groups performance by the country where the search originated. It is a country-by-country view, not a built-in regional taxonomy. Selecting several countries for comparison lets you examine them against one another; it does not create a permanent region or make a combined total a substitute for the individual country values. Google’s description of Performance report dimensions explains the country grouping.

View or compare countries in the Performance report
- Open the Search results Performance report. Choose the property, date range, and search type you want to analyze.
- In the table, select the Countries dimension. The table’s rows will then be keyed by country rather than showing only an overall result.
- To focus on a subset, apply a country filter. To compare countries, use the report’s comparison control and choose the countries available for your property. Google’s instructions are in How are you performing on Google?
- Keep the Countries dimension visible when you export or share the result if readers need country-by-country values.
The Insights report may also offer a Top countries card that links a selected country to the Performance report. Insights is being introduced gradually, so this entry point may not be available for every property. See Google’s Insights report documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose an export method that fits the analysis
| Method | Best for | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Export from the report | A small, one-off analysis of the current view | The export reflects the report’s current filters and grouping, but Google documents a limit of up to 1,000 representative rows. |
| Search Console API | Repeatable retrievals or workflows that need programmatic filtering and aggregation | Performance data is limited to 50,000 rows per day, per property, per search type. The API supports filters and aggregation, but it is not a freeform SQL interface. |
| BigQuery bulk export | Recurring analysis and transformations in SQL | Export is scheduled daily. Bulk export excludes anonymized queries, and its country field uses ISO-3166-1 alpha-3 codes. |
For a quick export, use the report’s export control after confirming the table is grouped by Countries and any intended filters or comparisons are active. Google describes what is included and the representative-row limit in Export data directly from a Search Console report.
#1 Best Overall
For an API workflow, record the property, date range, search type, and country filters used for each pull. Google’s Search Console API export guidance documents filtering, aggregation, and the daily row limit. A larger or recurring analysis may require splitting retrievals into appropriate requests; do not treat the quota as a promise that every possible row will be available.
For BigQuery, preserve the original country code in the data and add a separate display-name field if your audience needs readable country names. This keeps the source identifier available for auditing and later transformations. Google documents the daily export and its scope in About bulk data export to BigQuery; its table reference describes the country field and code format in Table guidelines and reference.
Add a regional roll-up without discarding country rows
Search Console does not define business or editorial regions for the Countries dimension. If you want a regional total, choose and document your own country-to-region mapping, then add a region field or a separate summary table. Keep the original country-level records in the same dataset or report so readers can inspect the countries behind each roll-up.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Retain the original country value or code as a row-level field.
- Add a distinct region label based on a stated mapping.
- Calculate regional totals separately from the country rows rather than replacing them.
Understand what country rows do not guarantee
Country grouping preserves country as a reporting dimension, but it does not guarantee that every associated query will be visible. Google omits anonymized queries from query reporting for privacy, and tables may be truncated. BigQuery bulk export is described as providing the most complete query list, but it still excludes anonymized queries. Treat query-level detail as incomplete where privacy exclusions or reporting limits apply, rather than presenting an export as a complete list of every search query. See Performance report dimensions and data groupings and Table guidelines and reference.
