Start playing a video in the YouTube app first. If it is playing but still has black bars, open Home > Settings > Picture > Picture Size Settings and try Fit to Screen if your TV offers it. To remove bars by zooming, you may have to set Picture Size to Custom and choose Zoom and Position; this can crop part of the picture.
First, make sure the video is playing
Browsing YouTube and watching a video are different states. Choose a video and start playback; if it is highlighted or paused at a selection screen, press the remote’s Select or center button. YouTube describes its TV app as a way to navigate and play videos with the television remote (YouTube Help: Explore the YouTube app on your TV).

If playback has started but the picture does not fill the screen, the issue is more likely the video’s shape, the app’s layout, or a picture-size setting. The TV’s picture-size menu cannot change every YouTube screen or app layout.

Adjust picture size on the Samsung TV

While the TV is on, press Home on the remote.

Open Settings > Picture > Picture Size Settings. Samsung’s menu names and options can vary by model and software version (Samsung Gulf: How to Change Picture Size and Picture Mode on a Samsung TV; Samsung Australia: Adjust the Picture Settings on your Samsung TV).

If available, select Fit to Screen. On some models, you must first change Picture Size to Custom to access Fit to Screen or Zoom and Position.

If using Zoom and Position, adjust the picture until it looks right. Stop if important content near the edges disappears.
Why black bars may remain
The video has a different aspect ratio
A TV screen and a video do not always have the same shape. Black bars can preserve the entire original picture when it is wider or narrower than the screen. Zooming can make the image occupy more of the display, but it does so by cutting off some of the top, bottom, or sides. Samsung’s picture-size guidance describes these trade-offs and notes that choices depend on the model and signal (Samsung Levant: Adjust the picture size on your Samsung TV).

The bars are part of the video
If the creator placed black bars inside the video itself, a TV setting may not remove them cleanly. Zooming may enlarge the video and crop its edges, but it cannot restore picture area that was never recorded outside those bars.
The app or source limits picture controls
Samsung says available picture-size options depend on the TV model and input signal, and some streaming apps restrict picture-size adjustments. The same menu may behave differently for the built-in YouTube app, a cast stream, an HDMI device, or a broadcast. For model-specific menu details, use the manual for your TV.
If Fit to Screen is missing or greyed out

Check whether Picture Size needs to be set to Custom before Fit to Screen or Zoom and Position appears.

Consider the source currently being watched: the TV may disable options for that signal or app.

Look up the exact model in Samsung’s support documentation if the menu path or available choices differ.

YouTube TV has a specific Select-button action for expanding one channel from a multiview screen: select the view with active audio and press Select; press Back to return to multiview. That instruction applies to YouTube TV multiview, not as a universal full-screen toggle for every YouTube video (YouTube TV Help: Watch multiple events on one screen in multiview on YouTube TV).
