To get two Sims flirting, first check their romantic attraction settings, then build familiarity and try romantic interactions that suit their preferences. A rejected advance does not automatically mean the relationship is doomed: the Sims may have incompatible settings, or one may dislike that style of romance. The mechanics below are for The Sims 4; Cupid’s Corner, dating plans, Romance Skill, Attraction, Romantic Satisfaction, and Romance Dynamics require the Lovestruck Expansion Pack.
Check attraction and WooHoo settings before making a move
In Create a Sim, open the ellipsis menu beneath the gender options and review Sexual Orientation. The settings cover three separate questions: who a Sim is romantically attracted to, whether they are exploring romantically, and who they are interested in WooHoo with. Romantic attraction and WooHoo interest are independent; one does not imply the other. If an advance is outside a Sim’s configured attraction, it may be rejected. The “exploring romantically” setting also affects whether romantic and flirty interactions are appropriate for that Sim. Check these settings before treating a rejection as a verdict on your Sim’s charm.

With Lovestruck, Sims have Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs that can influence Attraction and Romantic Satisfaction. Their categories include hair color, activities, characteristics, outfit color, fashion, and Romance Style. Preferences are individual, so there is no single interaction that is guaranteed to work on every Sim.

Socialize to discover preferences. Asking about a Sim’s Traits and Skills can reveal some, and the Who’s Up Party Game can uncover others. Check the Sim Profile to review what your Sim has learned. Unknown preferences are not evidence that a Sim likes or dislikes a particular approach; treat each discovery as useful information, not a promise of success. Match romantic interactions to the partner’s Romance Style
Lovestruck includes five Romance Style preference categories: Affection, Flirting, Gift Giving, Physical Intimacy, and WooHoo. A Sim can be turned off by a style their partner enjoys. EA says Romantic Satisfaction can decrease when a Sim engages in a style their partner dislikes, so selecting Flirt repeatedly is not a universal shortcut to a stronger relationship.

Vary your romantic interactions when you know little about a partner’s preferences, and use the Sim Profile as you learn more. Attraction and satisfaction can differ between the two Sims: one may feel more satisfied than the other. Romantic Satisfaction is also distinct from whether a specific flirt succeeds, and the couple’s combined satisfaction affects how quickly their romantic relationship fades.

The Lovestruck Expansion Pack adds Cupid’s Corner and custom date planning. In Cupid’s Corner, a Sim can create a profile, browse matches, save favorites, and start conversations. For a date, you can choose a date type and venue, invite optional guests, select activities, and set goals. EA lists options such as games, picnics, sharing food, cuddling, and stargazing in its romance guide.

Understand Romance Dynamics as relationship patterns
Lovestruck adds four Romance Dynamics that describe how a couple tends to relate in Live Mode. They are patterns, not a scale from “best” to “worst.”

You can set a Dynamic in Create a Sim. The game may also prompt you to change it based on the couple’s behavior, and Sims can ask to work on their Dynamic. Because Dynamics affect autonomous interactions, the pattern can influence what happens when you are not directing every action. EA describes the system in its romance guide.

Set jealousy boundaries that fit your play style
Romantic Boundaries let you configure whether a Sim gets jealous about physical romance, non-physical romance, and WooHoo or Mess Around. EA’s guide documents four yes-or-no controls in total; one determines whether the Sim can change boundaries through conversation. EA describes Romantic Boundaries as free for all players, not a Lovestruck-only feature. Its Lovestruck announcement says the system supports multiple dating relationships without affecting other relationships.

These controls let you choose how jealousy works for your Sims; they do not prescribe one relationship model as correct. If you want a Sim’s boundaries to be negotiable, use the conversation option. Otherwise, you can keep the settings under your control.
WooHoo can happen without a romance prerequisite
Young Adult Sims and older can ask a close friend to become a WooHoo Partner. If the friend accepts, they can WooHoo without romance prerequisites; the request may fail. This is separate from romantic attraction, and the friend’s acceptance matters. EA explains the feature in its Sexual Orientation feature article.
