How to Get Wi‑Fi on a Delta Flight and Check Whether Your Plane Supports It

On an equipped Delta aircraft, connect by turning on Airplane Mode, switching Wi‑Fi back on, selecting DeltaWiFi.com, and completing the onboard portal. Free Delta Sync Wi‑Fi requires a SkyMiles login (joining SkyMiles is free). To check eligibility before you travel, look for the “FREE WIFI FOR SKYMILES MEMBERS” badge beside your flight in Delta’s search results, read your pre-flight email, and verify each leg of a connecting itinerary separately.

Aircraft swaps and a continuing retrofit mean an aircraft type alone cannot guarantee service. Delta’s own aircraft list, the decal near the boarding door, and a flight attendant are useful secondary checks, but the flight-specific badge is the best advance signal.

Check your exact Delta flight before leaving for the airport

Wi‑Fi is assigned to the aircraft operating a particular flight, not simply to the route or the Delta brand. Delta can also substitute an aircraft between booking and departure. Use the following checks in order, and repeat them for every segment if you are connecting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Look for the SkyMiles Wi‑Fi badge in flight search

Search your itinerary on Delta’s Wi‑Fi information page and flight-search tools. An equipped flight is identified by the “FREE WIFI FOR SKYMILES MEMBERS” badge. This is a flight-level indication and is more useful than assuming every aircraft of a particular model has the same system.

2. Read the pre-flight email

Delta says Wi‑Fi availability is also referenced in its pre-flight emails. Check the message close to departure, especially if your booking was made months earlier or if the itinerary has a connection.

3. Use the aircraft list, with its limitations

Delta publishes a Wi‑Fi Service by Aircraft list on the same official Wi‑Fi page. An asterisk on that list means service is available only on selected aircraft of that type. A model listed there therefore narrows the possibilities but does not prove that your individual flight will have Wi‑Fi, or that it will be free.

4. Confirm at the gate

On an equipped aircraft, Delta says a “Fast, Free Wi‑Fi for SkyMiles Members” decal is near the aircraft boarding door. You can also ask a flight attendant. Gate confirmation is particularly useful after an aircraft change, when the information in an older email may no longer match the plane at the gate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

5. Check every leg of a connection

Do not assume that one Wi‑Fi-enabled flight makes the whole itinerary Wi‑Fi-enabled. Different legs can use different aircraft and different onboard systems. Check the badge and available service for each flight number independently; one leg may offer free Delta Sync while another offers only legacy paid service or no service.

Connect to Delta Wi‑Fi after boarding

Delta’s normal connection sequence is short, but doing it in the right order prevents common portal and VPN problems.

  1. Wait until the boarding door closes, then enable Airplane Mode. This disables cellular transmission as required during flight.
  2. Turn Wi‑Fi back on while leaving cellular service disabled. Airplane Mode and Wi‑Fi can be used together on modern phones, tablets and computers.
  3. Select the network named DeltaWiFi.com. Choose the aircraft network rather than trying to use a personal hotspot or a terrestrial airport network.
  4. Open the onboard sign-in page. It often appears automatically. If it does not, open a browser and enter deltawifi.com manually.
  5. Authenticate for the service offered on your aircraft. On Delta Sync aircraft, sign in with your SkyMiles account. If you do not have one, enroll for free from the portal and then sign in.
  6. Connect before starting a VPN session. Delta recommends establishing the Wi‑Fi connection first and logging in to a VPN afterward. A VPN that launches before the captive portal has completed can prevent the sign-in page from loading.

Delta’s complete device and service instructions are at Delta’s onboard Wi‑Fi page.

Supported devices and account use

Delta says most Wi‑Fi-enabled Android and iOS phones, macOS computers and Windows phones, tablets and laptops are supported. Free Delta Sync Wi‑Fi can be used on an unlimited number of devices by signing in to SkyMiles on each device. You may need to complete the portal login separately on each device, even when they share the same SkyMiles account.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What you cannot use the connection for

Delta does not permit voice or video calls during flight, including calls made through Wi‑Fi or VoIP applications. Messaging, browsing and other permitted data use are separate from making a call; follow the crew’s instructions if they impose additional restrictions.

Which Delta Wi‑Fi service is on your aircraft?

Delta operates two broad service types while its retrofit continues. The name shown in the portal and the flight-level information determine which rules apply.

Service How you identify it How you access it What to expect
Delta Sync Wi‑Fi Usually associated with the “FREE WIFI FOR SKYMILES MEMBERS” flight badge and the “Fast, Free Wi‑Fi for SkyMiles Members” aircraft decal. Join or sign in to SkyMiles through the DeltaWiFi.com portal. Free for SkyMiles members on equipped flights; Delta says streaming-speed service is the same whether a customer signs in with SkyMiles or purchases a pass on a flight where a pass is offered.
Wi‑Fi Onboard (legacy system, formerly Gogo) May be present on selected regional aircraft that have not yet been retrofitted. A paid pass may be offered; messaging is free, according to Delta. Availability, pricing and performance depend on the aircraft and route. Existing Wi‑Fi Onboard subscriptions continue to work on certain aircraft until retrofit.

Delta says its old Wi‑Fi Onboard All-Day and Delta Global passes are no longer accepted on Delta flights. If a portal offers a pass, read the terms shown for that flight rather than assuming an older pass will work. Delta’s current service descriptions and exceptions can change as aircraft are retrofitted; consult the official FAQ close to departure.

Free does not mean every Delta flight is connected

“Free” describes Delta Sync on an equipped aircraft for a SkyMiles member. It does not mean every Delta flight has service, that every international region has coverage, or that the connection will be uninterrupted. An aircraft using the legacy system can require a paid pass even when another flight on the same route offers free Delta Sync.

Aircraft types and the selected-aircraft caveat

Delta’s current aircraft page lists the following types under fast, free Wi‑Fi, and separately lists types where paid Wi‑Fi may be available. The list is a fleet guide, not a guarantee for a specific flight.

Delta list category Aircraft types shown by Delta Qualification
Fast, free Wi‑Fi A220-100 and A220-300; A319; A320; A321ceo and A321neo; 737-800 and 737-900; 757-200 and 757-300; 767-300 and 767-400; A330-200, A330-300 and A330-900neo; A350-900 Delta presents these types as equipped for fast, free Wi‑Fi, but flight-level confirmation remains important because schedules and aircraft assignments can change.
Fast, free Wi‑Fi on selected aircraft 717; CRJ-700; CRJ-900 Only selected aircraft of each type are equipped. The asterisk in Delta’s list marks this limitation.
Paid Wi‑Fi may be available on selected aircraft 717; CRJ-700; CRJ-900; ERJ-170; ERJ-175 These aircraft can use the legacy Wi‑Fi Onboard service. “Selected” means the aircraft type alone cannot tell you whether your flight is free, paid or unequipped.

The overlap for the 717, CRJ-700 and CRJ-900 is intentional: some examples of those types may have Delta Sync, while others may still have the paid legacy system. Use the flight badge, pre-flight email, gate decal or crew confirmation to resolve that uncertainty. The source list is maintained on Delta’s aircraft and Wi‑Fi FAQ page.

Where Delta Wi‑Fi works—and where it may not

Delta describes regional coverage rather than promising a uniform signal on every route. Its current page says coverage is full in the contiguous United States, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico, Europe, and Central America and the Caribbean; limited in Alaska; and available on a majority of routes in South America and Africa. Delta lists no Wi‑Fi coverage in Asia on that page. Coverage and actual service quality can vary even within a region.

Region Delta’s stated coverage status Practical meaning
Contiguous United States Full coverage described Most domestic flights with compatible aircraft should have a coverage path, but the aircraft still must be equipped.
Hawaii, Canada and Mexico Full coverage described Check the flight badge because an unequipped aircraft can still operate a route within a covered region.
Europe Full coverage described International route and aircraft checks remain necessary.
Central America and the Caribbean Full coverage described Actual service can vary with aircraft and operating conditions.
Alaska Limited coverage Expect possible gaps even where the aircraft has an onboard system.
South America and Africa Majority coverage Coverage is not universal; verify the specific flight.
Asia No coverage listed on Delta’s current page Do not infer service from a wide-body aircraft type alone.

Trans-Pacific rollout announced for late October 2026

On October 9, 2026, Delta announced regulatory approval to extend Delta Sync Wi‑Fi across trans-Pacific routes, with rollout beginning later that month and expanding progressively over the following weeks. The announcement does not establish that every trans-Pacific flight was enabled on October 13, the date of the latest status snapshot. For a trans-Pacific departure, rely on the flight-level badge and the latest Delta information rather than treating the announcement as completed coverage. See Delta’s October 9 announcement.

How large is the rollout?

Delta has published different fleet figures on different dates. They should be read as dated snapshots, not combined into one cumulative total.

  • In a May 14, 2026 report, Delta said more than 1,200 aircraft had fast, free Delta Sync Wi‑Fi and that customers had logged more than 160 million sessions since the service launched in 2023. Those are Delta-reported figures for that publication date: Delta News Hub, May 14, 2026.
  • In its October 9, 2026 announcement, Delta said nearly 1,300 aircraft were Wi‑Fi-equipped, representing more than 95% of its fleet, while also stating that the trans-Pacific rollout would begin later in October. See the October 9 Delta News Hub report.

Those numbers describe Delta’s program and do not promise uninterrupted connectivity, a particular speed on every segment, or service on an aircraft that is swapped in after publication. Delta’s customer-experience executive Ranjan Goswami described the effort as making “enormous strides” toward fast, free Wi‑Fi on every aircraft; that is a corporate statement about the rollout, not an independent performance test. The quotation appears in Delta News Hub coverage.

Troubleshoot a Delta Wi‑Fi connection that will not open

Most failures are caused by the captive portal, a stale saved network or a VPN starting too early. Work through these checks without turning cellular data back on.

The network appears, but the sign-in page does not

  1. Confirm that Airplane Mode is on and Wi‑Fi is on.
  2. Open a browser yourself and enter deltawifi.com.
  3. If a VPN, private relay or security filter is already active, disconnect it temporarily, complete the portal login, then reconnect the VPN.
  4. Make sure you selected DeltaWiFi.com, not a similarly named airport or personal hotspot network.

The portal keeps loading or the connection stalls

Delta recommends using your device’s Forget This Network command, then selecting DeltaWiFi.com and reconnecting. On a phone or tablet this is normally under the Wi‑Fi network’s information or settings screen; on a laptop, open the operating system’s saved-network list. Reopen the browser portal after the fresh connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

One device works and another does not

Free Delta Sync permits an unlimited number of devices when you log in to SkyMiles on each one, but each device must complete its own portal session. Repeat the browser login on the second device rather than trying to share the first device’s authenticated session.

The service disappears during the flight

Loss of service can reflect geographic coverage limits, aircraft equipment, temporary system conditions or the transition between coverage areas. Delta warns that coverage and service quality can vary. If the aircraft is in a region with limited or no listed coverage, reconnecting repeatedly may not restore service; wait until the aircraft returns to a covered area and follow crew instructions.

A pass or subscription is rejected

Check whether the aircraft is using Delta Sync or legacy Wi‑Fi Onboard. Delta says Wi‑Fi Onboard subscriptions continue to work on certain aircraft until retrofit, but its former Wi‑Fi Onboard All-Day and Delta Global passes are no longer accepted on Delta flights. The portal’s offer for the current aircraft is the relevant one.

What to do when your flight has no Wi‑Fi

If the flight-search badge is absent, the pre-flight email does not mention service, and the aircraft is not confirmed at the gate, plan for an offline flight. Download boarding documents, entertainment, maps and work files before departure. A phone hotspot, travel router or other accessory cannot add an onboard Delta system to an unequipped aircraft, and Delta’s connection procedure uses the aircraft’s own network and an existing Wi‑Fi-capable device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On a connecting itinerary, save anything needed for the next leg before leaving the first aircraft. The second flight may have a different system, a paid-only option or no service even when the first leg had free Delta Sync.

A practical pre-flight checklist

  • Search each flight number and look for the “FREE WIFI FOR SKYMILES MEMBERS” badge.
  • Read the latest pre-flight email for each segment.
  • Use Delta’s aircraft list, remembering that an asterisk means selected aircraft only.
  • Have a SkyMiles login ready, or enroll for free before boarding.
  • Download essential content in case coverage is unavailable or intermittent.
  • After the boarding door closes, enable Airplane Mode, turn Wi‑Fi on, select DeltaWiFi.com and use deltawifi.com if the portal does not appear.
  • Connect before starting a VPN.
  • Do not plan voice or video calls; Delta prohibits them in flight.

The most reliable answer to “Will my Delta flight have Wi‑Fi?” comes from the flight-specific badge and the aircraft at the gate, not from the route name, aircraft family or a fleet-wide percentage.
