If your Samsung device gets wet, unplug it, switch it off if you can do so safely, and wipe the outside with a dry, soft cloth. Keep it unplugged while the charging port is wet, and avoid rice, compressed air, and heat. Drying the exterior does not prove the inside is dry: Samsung warns that liquid can cause internal damage or corrosion even when a device still seems to work. For substantial exposure, contaminated liquid, or ongoing symptoms, arrange a Samsung service inspection.
What to do immediately after a Samsung device gets wet
- Disconnect it. Remove any connected cable or accessory. Do not connect a charger to test whether the phone still works.
- Power it off if practical. If it is on and you can operate it safely, switch it off rather than continuing to use or test it.
- Wipe the exterior. Use a clean, dry, soft cloth to blot moisture from the outside. Do not push anything into the charging port.
- Let it air-dry. Leave the device in a ventilated place with the port unplugged. Do not use a hair dryer, heater, oven, microwave, or other heat source. Samsung says, “Do not use heat sources such as hair dryers to dry your device.”
- Arrange inspection when exposure warrants it. Contact a Samsung service center promptly after immersion, contact with salt water or another contaminant, persistent warnings, or abnormal operation.
Samsung recommends wiping the device and visiting a service center as soon as possible after water exposure. A phone that appears to recover may still have internal moisture or corrosion; an exterior that feels dry is not confirmation that the inside is safe.

My Samsung says moisture detected—can I charge it?
No. Do not plug in a cable or accessory while the charging port is wet, and do not bypass the warning to force a wired charge. Samsung India advises waiting until the port is clean and dry and the notification has cleared before connecting anything. There is no universal guaranteed drying time: it depends on the exposure and device, and the cited Samsung guidance does not specify a fixed number of hours.

Does the right response depend on what got wet?

Because rinsing advice varies by model and situation, check the instructions for your exact device before applying water. Samsung’s regional support pages distinguish water-resistant from non-water-resistant products; do not generalize a procedure intended for one category to all Samsung phones and tablets.
Should I put my wet Samsung phone in rice?
No. Rice is not Samsung’s recommended procedure, and it is not a reliable way to draw internal water out. The Associated Press’s February 29, 2024 report summarizes manufacturer guidance against rice and compressed air, noting that rice particles may damage a phone. Let the device air-dry instead and seek service when the exposure or symptoms call for it.

Silica gel is sometimes discussed as a general drying aid, but it is not Samsung’s stated primary procedure or a substitute for inspection. Do not treat any home drying method as a guarantee that internal moisture or corrosion has been removed.

Does water resistance mean my Samsung is waterproof?
No. “Water-resistant” describes performance under defined conditions; it does not guarantee protection from every liquid, exposure, or state of wear. The correct limits depend on the specific model, and the title does not identify one, so there is no universal rating, safe immersion depth, or exposure duration to apply here. Check the model’s manual and support instructions, particularly after immersion or contact with a liquid other than fresh water.

When should I get Samsung service?
Samsung recommends prompt service-center inspection after water exposure. Prioritize an inspection if the device was immersed, exposed to salt water or another contaminant, continues to show a moisture warning, will not charge after the port is dry, or develops abnormal behavior. Do not rely on normal operation immediately after exposure as proof that the device escaped internal damage.
