Watch or warning: know what to do
A tornado watch means tornadoes are possible. Know where you will shelter and stay alert. A tornado warning means a tornado has been reported or indicated by radar and you should take action. The National Weather Service puts it plainly: “A Tornado Warning means take action!” NWS tornado safety guidance.

Set up tornado warnings on your phone
Keep Wireless Emergency Alerts enabled
WEA is the phone-based baseline: participating wireless carriers broadcast tornado warnings to compatible phones in an affected area. It does not require installing an app or paying for a separate subscription. Device capability and carrier participation matter, so no phone can be assumed to receive every alert. NWS explanation of WEA.
