After the required boss dies, craft the standard weapons at a Smithy with Iron Ingots and Planks. Both weapons then follow their own Merciless, Ancestral, Dark Silver, Sanguine and Epic Ancestral progression, with ancestral versions requiring the matching weapon, shard and the appropriate forge materials.

How to unlock the Longbow
Defeat Lidia the Chaos Archer
The Longbow recipe line unlocks when Lidia the Chaos Archer is slain. The unlock is attached to the boss kill, not to finding a chest or purchasing a blueprint. Once Lidia is defeated, the Longbow recipes become available through the normal weapon-crafting progression.

Locate Lidia with the V Blood tracker
Open the V Blood interface, select Lidia the Chaos Archer and activate the tracking option. The tracker is more reliable than following an old map screenshot because V Rising updates can alter boss levels, routes or encounter details. Travel with enough blood quality, healing items and durability to survive the search; losing the trail and returning to your castle does not remove the unlock, but it costs time and resources.
What changes after the kill?
Slaying Lidia unlocks the Longbow recipe family. It does not automatically place a finished bow in your inventory, and it does not skip the material or station requirements for the Iron, Merciless, Dark Silver, Sanguine or Ancestral variants. Return to your castle and inspect the weapon recipe at the relevant station after the boss dies.
Longbow attacks and why the weapon is different
The Longbow is a ranged weapon built around charged shots. Its base attack deals 60% to 120% physical damage depending on charge level and grants Focus. Focus can stack to three times, so managing charge time and maintaining the stacks is central to the weapon’s damage pattern.
A fully charged shot can pierce up to two enemies. Each subsequent hit is reduced to 50% of the damage dealt by the previous hit, making a lined-up group an opportunity for area pressure while preserving the strongest hit for the first target.

These figures describe the listed weapon abilities; your actual result can still vary with character power, target defenses, server configuration and later balance changes.
Longbow progression from Copper to Epic Ancestral

The exact station and material panel is the deciding reference for your server. A recipe becoming visible does not mean that every earlier tier can be skipped; ancestral recipes specifically call for a corresponding weapon of the correct tier.
How to unlock the Whip
Defeat Domina for the regular Iron Whip
Domina the Blade Dancer is the V Blood carrier associated with the regular Iron Whip recipe. Track and defeat her to unlock that recipe. Domina is associated with Rustlock Village in southern Gloomrot, which gives you a practical area to search when the V Blood tracker points you toward her encounter.
Use the tracker rather than relying on a fixed spawn assumption
Select Domina in the V Blood menu and follow the active trail. Rustlock Village is a geographic lead, not a guarantee that the boss will stand at one unchanged coordinate in every version or server. If the tracker points elsewhere, follow the tracker and verify the boss name before committing to a fight.
Defeat Simon Belmont for Sanguine Whip
The Sanguine Whip recipe is tied to Simon Belmont the Vampire Hunter. This is a separate late-game unlock from Domina’s Iron Whip recipe. You need the Sanguine-tier progression and the required crafting materials before the Sanguine Whip can be made, even after Simon has been defeated.

The Whip is described as a mid-range, piercing weapon with area damage. It occupies a different combat space from the Longbow: you can pressure several targets without standing directly beside them, but you are not playing from the Longbow’s charge-and-pierce range.
Craft the standard Iron Longbow or Iron Whip
Both standard Iron weapons use the Smithy. Iron Ingots are made by smelting Iron Ore in a Furnace, so the Furnace must be operational before the Smithy can consume the ingots.
- Build or access a Furnace. Place a Furnace in your castle and load it with Iron Ore. Wait for the ore to finish smelting into Iron Ingots.
- Build or access a Smithy. The Iron Longbow and Iron Whip are Smithy recipes, not Furnace recipes.
- Confirm the boss unlock. Check that Lidia has been defeated for the Longbow or Domina has been defeated for the Iron Whip. If the recipe is absent, the required V Blood kill may not have registered on that character.
- Open the weapon panel. Select the Iron Longbow or Iron Whip and read the current cost displayed by your game. The standard weapon reference lists 12 Iron Ingots and 8 Planks for an Iron weapon.
- Craft and equip. Queue the weapon at the Smithy, wait for completion and equip it from the inventory. Keep the previous weapon until you have tested durability and attack timing in a safe area.
The 12-Iron-Ingot and eight-Plank figure is a listed standard cost, not a promise that every server will display the same number. Server settings, floor bonuses and later patches can change the panel, so use the number shown in your client when planning a farming run.
Rare Ancestral upgrades at the Ancestral Forge
Rare Ancestral Whip
The Rare Ancestral Whip recipe requires all of the following:

- Radium Alloy.
- Access to an Ancestral Forge.
The shard is weapon-specific. A Rare Ancestral Whip Shard cannot be treated as a generic Longbow shard, so check the item name before spending it. The matching Rare Ancestral Longbow follows the same pattern: use a Merciless Iron Longbow, a Rare Ancestral Longbow Shard and the listed upgrade materials at the Ancestral Forge.

Where Rare Ancestral shards come from
Several acquisition routes are documented for Rare Ancestral shards:
- Carriages in Dunley Farmlands guarantee a Rare Ancestral shard.
- Tier 1 Rift Incursions have a 50% chance to provide one.
- Level 53–76 V Blood carriers have a 25% chance, excluding Terah and Gaius.
- The southern Vampire Merchant may sell one for 750 Stygian Shards.
These are chance-based or activity-specific sources except for the stated carriage drop. If you are targeting a particular weapon, verify that the shard’s full name matches the weapon before starting the Ancestral Forge craft.

Epic Ancestral upgrades
Epic Ancestral Whip
The Epic Ancestral Whip recipe uses:
- One Sanguine Whip.
- One Epic Ancestral Whip Shard.
- Four Onyx Tears.
- An Ancestral Forge.
The Epic Ancestral Longbow uses the same recipe pattern with the weapon-specific counterparts: a Sanguine Longbow, an Epic Ancestral Longbow Shard and four Onyx Tears. Do not substitute the Whip shard for the Longbow shard or vice versa.
Epic shard sources
Epic Ancestral shards are associated with carriages in Silverlight Hills and Oakveil Woodlands, completed Tier 2 Rift Incursions and high-level V Blood carriers. The exact chance depends on the activity or carrier, so inspect the reward information and your inventory rather than assuming that every carriage or boss guarantees a shard.

Choose the Longbow if you prefer to control distance, charge attacks and line up piercing shots. Choose the Whip if you want a mid-range weapon whose piercing and area-damage profile lets you pressure clustered enemies without committing to point-blank range. Since the unlock bosses and shard names differ, pursuing both requires separate boss kills and separate weapon-specific upgrade materials.
Common problems and fixes
The recipe is still missing after killing a boss
- Confirm that the defeated enemy was the correct V Blood carrier: Lidia for Longbow, Domina for Iron Whip or Simon Belmont for Sanguine Whip.
- Return to the castle and reopen the appropriate crafting station. Some unlocks are easiest to verify after the current station interface refreshes.
- Check the V Blood menu for the boss’s defeated state. A failed encounter, another player’s kill outside your progression or a disconnected session may not register as expected.
- Compare your client with the current V Blood tracker and recipe panel. Patches can move bosses, change unlocks or alter weapon tiers.
The Smithy shows an unfamiliar cost
Use the number in the recipe panel for your server. The documented standard is 12 Iron Ingots and 8 Planks, but server settings, floor bonuses and later updates can modify displayed costs. Gather the materials shown in the panel rather than relying on an older screenshot.
The Ancestral Forge will not craft the upgrade
- Verify that the base weapon is the exact required tier: Merciless Iron for a Rare Ancestral item or Sanguine for an Epic Ancestral item.
- Verify the shard name. Longbow and Whip shards are separate items.
- Check the additional materials: Rare Whip upgrades list Radium Alloy, while Epic upgrades list four Onyx Tears.
- Confirm that you are using an Ancestral Forge, not a Smithy.
You cannot find Domina
Start the V Blood tracking sequence again and use Rustlock Village in southern Gloomrot as the geographic lead. If the tracker sends you away from Rustlock Village, follow the active trail because encounter locations and routes can differ by version.
A practical unlock-and-upgrade route
- Open the V Blood menu and track Lidia if your priority is the Longbow, or Domina if your priority is the Iron Whip.
- Defeat the selected boss and verify the recipe unlock in the V Blood interface.
- Mine Iron Ore, smelt it into Iron Ingots in a Furnace and collect Planks.
- Craft the standard Iron weapon at the Smithy. Keep the displayed recipe cost as your authoritative material target.
- Advance through the Merciless tier and save the matching weapon if you intend to craft an Ancestral version.
- For Rare Ancestral equipment, obtain the weapon-specific Rare shard, Radium Alloy and the listed materials, then use the Ancestral Forge.
- Continue to Dark Silver and Sanguine tiers. Defeat Simon Belmont when you need the Sanguine Whip recipe.
- For Epic Ancestral equipment, obtain the matching Epic shard and four Onyx Tears, then combine them with the correct Sanguine weapon at the Ancestral Forge.
This route avoids the most common dead end: collecting a shard before you have the matching base weapon or spending a Longbow shard on a Whip upgrade.
Patch and version caveat
The accessible Longbow reference records a last modification date of 15 October 2025. V Rising continues to receive patches and server configurations can alter boss levels, recipe costs, weapon tiers and drop tables. When your game disagrees with a value in this guide, check the current V Blood tracker, the station’s recipe panel and the item description in your own client before committing resources.
