The Epic Store purchase includes the Outfit while the game remains for sale there; a separate shop purchase is listed at 1,500 V-Bucks. Epic’s official pages show conflicting shop dates, so check the live in-game shop before spending V-Bucks.
Choose one of the two official ways to get Fernet
| Route | What you get | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Buy Kernel Hearts on the Epic Games Store | Any edition qualifies for the Fernet Outfit. Epic says this offer lasts while the game remains for sale on the Epic Games Store. | Make sure you are purchasing through the Epic Games Store. Epic says purchase date does not affect eligibility. |
| Buy Fernet in Fortnite’s Item Shop | The official Fernet page lists the Outfit at 1,500 V-Bucks. | The page currently marks it unavailable, and its date information conflicts with the FAQ. Confirm that Fernet is listed in the live in-game shop before buying currency. |
Get Fernet with a Kernel Hearts purchase
- Open the Epic Games Store and find Kernel Hearts.
- Purchase any edition of the game. Epic says the purchase date does not affect eligibility, and automatic grants begin August 17, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET.
- Sign in to Fortnite with the Epic account associated with the purchase. The Outfit can appear on other platforms when you sign in with that Epic account on PC or mobile, or connect your console account to it.
This is not a no-cost Outfit: the qualifying route requires buying the game. Epic’s support article says any edition qualifies. The Epic Games Store game FAQ says the reward offer continues for as long as Kernel Hearts is available for sale on that storefront.

Buy Fernet directly in Fortnite if it is listed
Epic’s FAQ says the separate Fortnite Shop offer begins September 26, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET. However, the official Fernet item page marks the Outfit unavailable and displays a September 24, 2026 end date. Those details do not line up. The item page lists a price of 1,500 V-Bucks, but that price does not mean Fernet is purchasable now. Check the in-game shop’s current listings before buying V-Bucks or attempting to purchase it.
What happens if you already own Fernet or refund the game?
- You already own Fernet: Epic says a qualifying Kernel Hearts purchase gives you a one-time 1,500 V-Bucks instead of a duplicate Outfit. A gift purchase for a recipient who already owns Fernet also results in 1,500 V-Bucks for that recipient.
- You refund Kernel Hearts: Epic says the refund removes the Fernet Outfit, or the 1,500 V-Bucks grant received in its place.
- You buy the game as a gift: Epic says the recipient receives the Outfit, or the one-time 1,500 V-Bucks grant if they already own it.
Using a Fortnite gift card to fund a shop purchase
A Fortnite gift card can fund Fortnite balance or V-Bucks, but it does not guarantee Fernet is available. Epic says Fortnite gift cards are replacing V-Bucks cards, with rollout and availability varying by region. Its V-Bucks card information explains that V-Bucks can be used for Outfits, and Epic’s gift-card support article explains using gift-card balance to buy V-Bucks for the web Item Shop. Platform wallet rules can apply, so check the redemption and purchasing terms for your region and platform.
