In ARC Raiders, the Basic Camera is an in-game Quick Use gadget. You can receive one from the Sizing Things Up quest, craft it at a level-one Workbench with eight Plastic Parts and one Wire, buy one from Shani, or find one while scavenging. Put it in a Quick Use slot, select it on the gadget wheel, aim at the required subject, and take the photo. For the first Sizing Things Up objective, photograph the lower part of the Emperor’s leg on the bridge directly east of Old Town.
What the Camera does in ARC Raiders
The Basic Camera is an Uncommon Quick Use gadget used to take photographs and selfies. It is an inventory item rather than a permanent ability, so you need to carry it and select it before taking an objective photo. The item reference lists the Camera as having been added with the Frozen Trail 2.0 update.

Photo objectives are completed by taking a picture with the Camera while the named subject is framed. Traveling to a landmark, standing at the correct location, or interacting with scenery is not the same as completing the photo step. Read the objective literally: if it names a particular part of a machine or structure, keep that part in the viewfinder when you take the picture.

You have four acquisition routes. The quest-provided camera is normally the least demanding option, while crafting gives you a predictable backup if you already have the materials. Shani’s stock is convenient when you have Coins, and scavenging costs no listed recipe materials but depends on finding the item.

Use the quest camera first
If your immediate goal is the first photograph in Sizing Things Up, Celeste’s quest supplies are the most direct path. The quest reference says the mission grants a Basic Camera, and the walkthrough identifies Celeste as the character who gives it to you. Check your inventory after accepting the quest before spending materials or Coins on another copy.
Craft one at a level-one Workbench
Crafting does not require a higher-tier station. At a level-one Workbench, provide eight Plastic Parts and one Wire for the Basic Camera recipe. If the recipe is not available, verify that you are looking at the gadget-crafting options and that the required materials are in the backpack or storage location recognized by the crafting interface. The item reference establishes the ingredient count; it does not establish any additional unlock requirement.
Buy one from Shani
Shani is listed as a seller of the Basic Camera. One current guide reports a price of 1,920 Coins. Treat that number as an in-game value that can change with patches, stock changes, or vendor balancing rather than a permanent price. Open Shani’s trade screen and confirm both the item and its current cost before completing the purchase.

The Basic Camera can also be obtained through scavenging. This route is useful when you do not want to spend crafting materials or Coins, but it is not a guaranteed way to have a camera before a particular objective. If you find one, move it into your backpack and assign it to a Quick Use slot before attempting the photo.

How to equip and use the Camera
The exact button labels can differ by platform and by your custom bindings. The following sequence reflects the PC controls reported by current guides: Q opens the gadget wheel, the right mouse button aims, and the left mouse button takes the picture. Use the on-screen prompts if your controls differ.
- Carry the item. Make sure the Basic Camera is in your backpack rather than left in another storage location.
- Assign it to Quick Use. Open your Quick Use or gadget assignment interface and place the Camera in an available slot.
- Open the gadget wheel. On the reported PC layout, press Q. Select the Camera from the wheel.
- Move into position. Stand where the objective can be framed. A correct location alone does not complete the task; the photograph is the required action.
- Aim at the subject. On the reported PC layout, hold the right mouse button. Center the named object or body part, not merely the surrounding area.
- Take the picture. Press the left mouse button on the reported PC layout. Wait for the objective feedback before moving away.
If you are using a controller or a different keyboard layout, do not assume the PC keys apply. The game’s current prompt and your control settings take precedence over a guide written for the default PC layout.
How objective photographs are judged
A quest photo has two requirements: the Camera must be the selected gadget, and the required subject must be in the frame. A general screenshot, a picture taken with another item, or an image aimed at the right landmark but the wrong component may not advance the objective. When the wording identifies a specific part, use that wording as your framing instruction.
- Confirm the Camera icon is the active Quick Use selection before aiming.
- Frame the named subject itself, rather than relying on proximity to the location marker.
- Take the picture only after the subject is visible in the aiming view.
- Check the quest tracker for progress before leaving the area.
If the objective does not register, select the Camera again, adjust your position so the specified subject is more clearly visible, and take another photo. Also check that you are completing the photo step rather than a separate interaction listed in the same quest.

Sizing Things Up: the Emperor’s-leg photograph
Sizing Things Up is the clearest example of how the Camera objective works. Celeste’s quest supplies a Basic Camera. The first photo objective concerns the Emperor near Old Town, and the required view is more specific than simply photographing the whole machine.
Reach the photo location
- Travel to the bridge directly east of Old Town.
- Use the bridge that runs parallel to the Emperor’s southern front leg.
- Position yourself so the lower portion of that leg is visible and large enough to frame clearly.
The walkthrough places the photo spot on that east-of-Old-Town bridge, alongside the Emperor’s southern front leg. The quest reference describes the target as the Emperor’s leg; the walkthrough narrows the framing to the lower part of the leg. Photographing a different section, another leg, or the wider bridge scene does not follow that stated target.
Take the required photo
- Put the Basic Camera in a Quick Use slot if it is not already assigned.
- Open the gadget wheel and select the Camera.
- Aim toward the lower part of the Emperor’s leg from the bridge.
- Take the picture using your current photo control.
- Verify that the quest tracker advances before moving on.
Reaching the bridge is only the location step. The objective is satisfied by taking the photograph with the Camera while the lower leg is framed.

What comes after the photo
The camera task is only one part of Sizing Things Up. The quest page lists additional objectives involving analysis near Railroad Junction, reaching the Emperor’s base, searching the Buried Harvester Payload, and delivering an ARC Conductive Coupler to Celeste. These are separate quest steps; completing the leg photograph does not complete the whole mission.

Follow the quest tracker for the order and current markers after the photo registers. The walkthrough provides additional location detail for those follow-up steps, but none of them substitutes for the Camera action required at the bridge.

The available sources do not establish that an Advanced Camera is required for the basic Sizing Things Up photo. The documented objective can be completed with the Basic Camera.
Common problems and fixes
“I am at the bridge, but the quest has not advanced.”
Being at the correct landmark is not the photo action. Equip the Camera, select it from the gadget wheel, aim at the lower part of the Emperor’s southern front leg, and take the picture. Then check the tracker for the objective update.
“The Camera is in my backpack, but I cannot take a photo.”
An item in the backpack is not automatically the active gadget. Assign it to a Quick Use slot and select that slot on the gadget wheel before aiming.
“The photo controls do not match the guide.”
The Q, right-mouse-button, and left-mouse-button sequence is reported for PC controls. Your bindings, platform, or input device may use different buttons. Follow the prompts shown by your current configuration and inspect your control settings rather than forcing the PC defaults.
“I photographed the Emperor, but the objective still failed.”
Refocus on the specified part. The target is the lower portion of the leg by the bridge, not an arbitrary image of the Emperor or the surrounding Old Town area. Select the Camera again, adjust your angle until the lower leg is clearly framed, and retake the picture.
“The shop does not show the reported price.”
The 1,920-Coins figure is a guide-reported in-game price, not a guaranteed permanent value. Check Shani’s current trade screen for the live price and stock. If buying is no longer economical, use the quest supply, the level-one recipe, or scavenging instead.
Version and control caveats
Recipes, trader stock, prices, quest targets, and control prompts can change after game updates. The Basic Camera’s Frozen Trail 2.0 introduction is reported by the item reference, while the available gameplay sources provide the recipe, acquisition routes, and PC control sequence. Official developer patch notes for the Camera’s introduction and photo rules were not available in the material used for this guide.
For that reason, treat the in-game inventory, trade screen, quest tracker, and control prompts as the final authority after a patch. The procedures above reflect the gameplay information checked on October 13, 2026.
