For the best starting point with the FiiO FT15, use its supplied cable with a compatible headphone output, begin at low volume, and compare both included earpad sets with familiar music. FiiO says the FT15 can be driven by portable players and dongle DACs, so a separate amplifier is not an established requirement. The pad descriptions below are FiiO’s guidance, not independently verified listening findings.
Connect the FT15 to a compatible headphone output
The FT15 is a wired, open-back, full-size planar headphone. Its supplied cable ends in a 4.4 mm balanced plug, while the earcups use dual 3.5 mm TS connectors. The package includes a 4.4 mm-to-6.35 mm adapter and a 4.4 mm-to-XLR-4 balanced adapter. Check the output on your player, DAC or amplifier, then use the matching connection. An adapter solves a connector mismatch; the word “balanced” alone does not establish a sound-quality upgrade.

FiiO says the FT15 can be driven by portable players and dongle DACs. Start with a suitable headphone output you already own; the available sources do not establish that a particular DAC or amplifier is needed for the best sound. If your device cannot reach a comfortable listening level, or playback is noisy or distorted, try another compatible output rather than assuming the supplied cable requires a new component. - Connect the headphones with the supplied cable and the adapter that matches the source output.
- Turn the source volume down before starting playback.
- Play a familiar recording and raise the level gradually until it is comfortable. No special gain, equalization or break-in procedure is established in the cited product information.
Compare the two included earpad sets
The FT15 comes with suede pads fitted and a second pair of protein-leather pads. FiiO describes the suede pads as adding bass weight and warmth to vocals while keeping the top end smooth. It describes the protein-leather pads as emphasizing high-frequency resolution and vocal clarity. These are manufacturer descriptions rather than independent findings; your fit and preference determine which set works better for you. FiiO Shop Germany’s FT15 listing
#1 Best Overall
- 800nm ULTRA-THIN DIAPHRAGM — ENGINEERED FOR HIGH RESOLUTION The FT15 uses an ultra-thin 800nm planar magnetic diaphragm, 86.7% thinner than the previous-generation 6μm design. The extremely low diaphragm mass enables fast response, precise transient reproduction, and fine detail retrieval, bringing greater clarity and realism to vocals, instruments, and complex recordings.
- FULL-SURFACE DIAMOND COATING — FAST, STABLE & LOW DISTORTION FIIO's proprietary multi-layer coating technology applies a full-surface diamond coating to the diaphragm. With diamond's exceptional rigidity and stability, the diaphragm better controls high-frequency breakup and unwanted vibration, helping deliver faster response, improved acoustic stability, and a smooth, low-distortion sound.
- 101mm LARGE PLANAR DRIVER — POWERFUL DYNAMICS & DEEP BASS The massive 101mm planar magnetic driver features an effective vibrating area of 6443.5mm², 35% larger than the previous-generation FT15 design. The increased vibrating area provides abundant energy reserve for powerful dynamics, rich low frequencies, and a spacious presentation that excels with large-scale classical, orchestral, rock, and cinematic music.
- 95dB/mW HIGH SENSITIVITY — EASIER TO DRIVE A specially engineered dual-sided heterogeneous magnet structure and optimized magnetic-field distribution keep the voice coil within a strong magnetic field region, achieving 95dB/mW sensitivity and strong driving efficiency. FT15 can be paired with portable players, DAC dongles, and desktop headphone amplifiers for flexible HiFi listening.
- 425g LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN & PREMIUM MATERIALS The FT15 combines optimized materials and structural design to keep the total weight at approximately 425g, reducing head pressure during extended listening. North American FAS-grade black walnut ear cups add natural wood grain and a premium handcrafted feel, while the included 6N OCC single-crystal copper cable receives more than 100 hours of -192°C cryogenic treatment.
- Listen to a vocal recording, a bass-heavy passage and an acoustic recording with the fitted suede pads.
- Swap to the protein-leather pads and replay the same passages at a similar perceived loudness.
- Choose by the balance and comfort you prefer, not by assuming one set is universally more accurate.
Check fit, weight and listening environment
FiiO lists the FT15 at about 425 g without its cable and specifies a clamping force of 3.8 N ± 0.3 N. Those figures cannot predict comfort for every listener, so check how the headphones feel over a normal session. The open-back design also means sound can leak out and outside noise can reach you; it is better suited to a setting where both are acceptable than to a noisy commute or a need for isolation.

What listening claims are established?
FiiO’s product descriptions use terms such as “warm,” “natural” and “deep bass,” but the cited independent coverage consists of launch reports rather than FT15 listening reviews. What Hi-Fi? reported the launch on 18 September 2026, and TechRadar’s report of the same date said testing would be needed to establish how the headphones perform. Those reports do not provide independent FT15 listening impressions, frequency-response measurements, an EQ profile, a break-in requirement or long-term durability results.
