Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteStart with the PS5 Pro’s automatic video output, then adjust HDR and any game-specific options for your own TV. There is no single HDR, black-level, or sharpness preset that is best for every older PS4 RPG and display. The settings below provide a reliable baseline and a way to troubleshoot differences without guessing at universal values.
Set a reliable video-output baseline
- Connect the PS5 Pro directly to the TV’s compatible HDMI input if you are troubleshooting. HDMI features can be limited to particular ports or require a setting on the TV, so check its manual.
- On the console, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Check the signal information shown for the connected display.
- Leave Resolution set to Automatic as a starting point. The PS5 detects the connected TV’s capabilities and selects the highest available resolution. Set a fixed resolution only to diagnose a problem or meet a specific need.
PlayStation describes 4K as almost four times the definition of 1080p HD; getting a 4K signal also depends on a compatible screen and appropriate output settings. See PlayStation’s PS5 resolution and video-output guidance for the supported settings and signal details.

Decide whether to enhance PS4 games
On supported PS5 Pro models in the CFI-7000 group, the Enhance Image Quality for PS4 Games option can improve image quality in some PS4 games. The connected display must support 4K or 1440p. This is a compatibility feature, not a guarantee that every older RPG will look better to every player.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Find the option in Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Turn it on if it is available and your display meets the resolution requirement. If the game shows unexpected behavior, turn it off and compare. PlayStation’s video-output support page documents the option and its compatibility guidance.

Set HDR for the display and game
Run Adjust HDR on the PS5 Pro with the TV in the picture mode you actually use for gaming. The adjustment should reflect that display and mode; values copied from another TV or game are not a dependable substitute.
For the system HDR behavior, choose between these options in Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output:

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
- On When Supported keeps content without HDR support in SDR. Choose this if you want SDR games to retain their SDR output.
- Always On converts SDR games and apps to HDR output. Whether that conversion looks preferable depends on the game and TV.
If the RPG includes its own HDR calibration, adjust it in the game after setting up the console and display. No universal numeric HDR values are established for older RPGs; use the game’s instructions and judge the result on your screen. PlayStation explains the system HDR choices and Adjust HDR in its official video-output guide.

Leave RGB Range on Automatic under normal conditions. PlayStation’s instruction is: “Change this only when you use an HDMI device that doesn’t send RGB range information correctly.” If blacks look washed out or crushed, first check whether the console and TV agree on the HDMI signal range; changing sharpness or unrelated picture controls will not correct a range mismatch.

Use VRR, 120 Hz, and ALLM only when supported
These features depend on the connected TV, and VRR and 120 Hz also require game support. They may affect smoothness or latency, but they are not universal image-quality upgrades for an older RPG. Check the TV’s specifications and the game’s available options, then enable supported features in Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. If a feature causes a video-output problem or unexpected behavior, disable it and check again. PlayStation lists these compatibility requirements in its PS5 video-output guidance.

If the console does not offer the expected signal, check the connection before replacing equipment:

- Replaceable Stick Modules and Caps
- Confirm the TV supports 4K at 120 Hz and that you are using a compatible HDMI port. Some TVs require enabling the relevant input feature in their settings.
- Check for TV firmware updates and connect the PS5 Pro directly to the TV while diagnosing the issue, rather than routing through an intermediate device.
- Use the cable included with the console or an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable rated for 4K 120 Hz, as PlayStation recommends. Replacing a working cable is not a routine picture-quality upgrade.
For a game with graphics modes, compare the actual choice it offers—typically image detail against frame rate—and consider whether your display supports the related refresh features. For HDR, compare native SDR output with system conversion on your own TV. Neither choice has a universal winner for every game and display.
