For the best fit and noise cancellation from Pixel Buds Pro 2, choose the right eartip size for each ear, check the seal, then select the noise-control mode that suits your surroundings. A secure, comfortable fit is the starting point; Google notes in its general Pixel Buds fit guidance that “A tight seal improves sound, noise cancellation, and mic performance.”
How to get a secure, comfortable fit
- Insert each earbud gently. Keep the L/R markings upright as you place the earbuds in your ears.
- Twist to secure. Turn the stabilizer counter-clockwise until the earbud feels secure and comfortable. Do not force it if it causes discomfort.
- Adjust each eartip independently. Pixel Buds Pro 2 include extra-small, small, medium, and large eartips; medium is attached by default. Your ears may need different sizes, so try sizes separately for the left and right earbuds.
- Run Eartip Seal Check. Open the Pixel Buds settings and choose Eartip Seal Check. Google describes this feature as a way to assess seal quality and help get the best possible sound. If the seal is poor, try another size and check again.
Google’s fit page says that Pixel Buds Pro 2 use Silent Seal 2.0 and offer “twice the noise cancellation” compared with Pixel Buds Pro. That is Google’s product comparison; the page does not provide a test method or measured attenuation figure, so it should not be read as a guaranteed result for every wearer.

Which noise-control mode should you use?
Choose a mode based on whether you want to reduce outside sound or hear more of your environment. The effect you get will vary with fit, surroundings, and individual ears.

Google says Dynamic ANC adapts noise cancellation even when the earbuds are not locked into your ears with a perfect seal. That adaptation is not a substitute for finding a comfortable fit and checking the seal; Google does not quantify how much it compensates for an individual wearer’s fit.

How to switch modes and use Conversation Detection
By default, touching and holding an earbud switches between Noise Cancellation and Transparency. You can also select a mode in the Pixel Buds app. Google says control settings can be changed, so check the app if the gesture does not behave as expected.
Conversation Detection can switch the earbuds from Noise Cancellation to Transparency and pause media when you speak. Media resumes when the conversation ends. It is useful for brief conversations without manually changing modes.

What to check if sound or calls are poor
- Recheck the fit and seal. Try a different eartip size for the affected ear and run Eartip Seal Check again.
- Keep eartips clean. Debris can interfere with sound and fit.
- Make sure your ear canals are dry. Google includes dry ear canals among its troubleshooting advice.
- Try another noise-control mode during noisy calls. Google advises trying different ANC modes if Transparency interferes with calls in a noisy environment.
