Whether you can automatically forward texts depends on the phones and destination: an iPhone can make SMS, MMS, and RCS messages available on linked Apple devices, while Samsung documents a Galaxy phone-to-tablet option. These built-in features are not general-purpose forwarding to any second phone number. First identify whether you want messages on a linked device, or are moving your number to a replacement phone.
What “forward texts to another phone” can mean
There is no universal setting that sends every incoming text from one phone to any other phone or number. Built-in options are platform-specific and generally provide access on linked devices. That differs from forwarding messages to a separate phone number, for which the documentation covered here does not establish universal carrier support.

- Read messages on a linked device: Apple documents iPhone messages appearing on Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro; Samsung documents a Galaxy phone paired with a Galaxy tablet. Google Messages Help covers checking messages on a computer or Android tablet.
- Move your number to a new phone: This is a migration, not a way to keep two phones receiving the same texts.
- Send texts to a different phone number: Check with your carrier about support for your country, plan, and number. Call forwarding is a separate feature and does not establish SMS forwarding support.
How to see iPhone texts on another Apple device
Apple documents SMS, MMS, and RCS messages sent and received on an iPhone appearing on Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro. The devices need to use the same Apple Account, and the source iPhone must be on and connected to Wi-Fi or cellular service. Apple’s instructions are at Forward text messages from your iPhone to other devices.
Option 1: Use Messages in iCloud
Messages in iCloud keeps message history up to date across your devices, including SMS, MMS, RCS, and iMessage. If it is set up, Apple says you do not need a separate Text Message Forwarding setup.

Option 2: Turn on Text Message Forwarding
- On the iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Messages > Text Message Forwarding.
- Turn on the Apple devices that should be able to send and receive messages from that iPhone.
- Confirm the devices use the same Apple Account and keep the iPhone on and connected to Wi-Fi or cellular service.
Apple’s documented destinations are Apple devices; this feature is not documented as a way to forward iPhone texts to an Android phone or arbitrary phone number.
How to use a Galaxy phone with a Galaxy tablet
Samsung’s Call & text on other devices feature lets a supported Galaxy tablet use the phone’s number to make and receive calls and messages. Samsung’s setup is for a Galaxy phone-and-tablet pairing, not forwarding to any second handset or number. Its support guidance says both devices need the same Samsung account, and the phone and tablet must be in the same country or region. - On both Galaxy devices, sign in to the same Samsung account.
- Enable Call & text on other devices on the phone and tablet. The exact menu path can vary by model and software version.
- Check that the feature is supported by your model and carrier, and that the devices are in the same country or region.
What Google Messages supports—and what it does not establish
Google Messages Help includes instructions for checking messages on a computer or Android tablet. That is companion-device access; the reviewed guidance does not establish a general Android phone-to-phone automatic forwarding procedure. Start with Google’s computer or Android tablet messaging help, and check the instructions for your specific messaging app and devices.

Google advises turning off iMessage before removing the SIM from an iPhone when moving a number to Android. Otherwise, SMS or MMS messages might continue going to the old iPhone. This is migration troubleshooting, not a method to duplicate messages across two phones. See Google’s guidance for switching to Android.

How to check access and troubleshoot
On iPhone
- Review Settings > Apps > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and turn off any device that should no longer have access. Apple also describes checking and disabling forwarding in its Personal Safety guide.
- Confirm the receiving Apple devices use the same Apple Account and have Messages configured as Apple specifies.
- Make sure the source iPhone is on and connected to Wi-Fi or cellular service.
- If Text Message Forwarding is missing, Apple suggests turning iMessage off and back on, then checking the account under Send & Receive.
On Galaxy devices
- Confirm the phone and tablet use the same Samsung account and that the feature is enabled on both.
- Check model and carrier support, and confirm both devices are in the same country or region.
- If the menu differs, consult the support instructions for the exact model and software version.
If you need texts delivered to another number
Ask your cellular carrier whether SMS forwarding to a different number is available for your specific plan, number, and country. Do not assume that call-forwarding settings apply to text messages: Apple says call forwarding depends on the carrier, and that does not establish equivalent SMS support.

Set up message access only on devices you own or are authorized to administer. These features should not be used to access someone else’s messages without their consent.
