The Legend of Zelda: Temple of Seasons is a fan-made ROM hack of Oracle of Seasons, not a standalone Nintendo game. Before trying to play, confirm the hack’s current release instructions and compatible base game: published reports conflict about whether it requires a US Oracle of Seasons ROM or an Oracle of Ages ROM. Once that prerequisite is settled, expect a five-dungeon, swordless adventure where items matter for both combat and exploration.
What Temple of Seasons is
Temple of Seasons is an unofficial fan project built around Nintendo’s Game Boy Color adventure The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. Coverage describes a journey from Subrosia to Mount Tetra across five dungeons. Unlike the original, Link has no sword, so the tools and items he acquires take a larger role in fighting enemies and navigating the world.

Creator Jay described the design this way in a statement reproduced by Retro Dodo on September 1, 2026: “Here more than ever, your growing arsenal is necessary for both traversal and combat, and expect a few brand-new items to add a fresh take.” (Retro Dodo)

PlayCentral reported that the project is distributed as a patch, not as a complete copy of Nintendo’s game, and that version 1.072 was released on September 14, 2026. It identifies a legally acquired US copy of Oracle of Seasons as the base game and says the hack’s on-screen text is in English. These are secondary-source reports, not creator-authored compatibility instructions. (PlayCentral)

There is a material discrepancy: Retro Dodo says an Oracle of Ages ROM from the USA or Australia is required, while PlayCentral names US Oracle of Seasons. The latter matches the reported basis of the hack, but that does not resolve the conflict. Check the creator’s current release notes for the exact game, region, revision or checksum before patching. A cartridge or ROM from the right title alone may not be compatible if its revision differs.
How to patch and launch it
The available coverage does not establish the patch format, patching utility, supported ROM checksum, compatible emulator or hardware, or exact first-screen instructions. Because the two reports disagree about the required base game, do not choose a ROM or follow generic patching steps on assumption alone.

- A collectible Game & Watch system packed with Legend of Zelda classics
- Find the creator’s current release page or notes and confirm the required base-game title, region, revision or checksum.
- Obtain the required base game legally. The patch is not a substitute for the Nintendo game.
- Follow the creator’s stated patch format, patching utility and launch instructions. If those details are not available, wait for clarification rather than applying an unverified patch or downloading a pre-patched game.
Do not assume an emulator or device is supported unless the release documentation says so. No compatibility list or verified troubleshooting procedure is established by the published reports cited here.
What to expect when playing
The reported five-dungeon structure and swordless design are useful expectations, but they do not establish the hack’s opening route or objective order. No complete Temple of Seasons walkthrough was available in the coverage cited here, so original-game directions should not be treated as exact hack instructions.

If you have not played Oracle of Seasons
The original game can still provide useful background. In Oracle of Seasons, Link arrives in Holodrum after Onox kidnaps Din; Impa directs him toward the Maku Tree in Horon Village, and the main quest centers on finding eight Essences of Nature. Link obtains the Rod of Seasons after the first dungeon and gradually unlocks its powers through the Season Spirits. At tree stumps, the Rod changes local conditions. Those are details of the original game, not confirmed steps in Temple of Seasons. (Joking Joystick)
Choosing between the hack and the original
The main distinction supported by available coverage is the swordless, item-centered design of the hack versus the original game’s familiar adventure. Your familiarity with Oracle of Seasons may help you recognize the setting, but should not be taken as a guarantee that its routes or solutions carry over. The sources do not establish a comparative difficulty rating, performance results or accessibility measurements.
