What is Call of Duty Zombies?
It is a mode within the Call of Duty series, but its maps, objectives, and rules depend on the specific release. Activision described BO6 as bringing back “round-based Zombies” when the game launched on October 25, 2024. That is a launch description of BO6, not a full definition of every Zombies mode. How to get started in BO6 Zombies
Choose the game, map, and mode
Check which Call of Duty release you are playing, then identify the map and mode. The guidance below uses BO6’s Reckoning map. Its routes, stations, quest instructions, and round pacing are Reckoning-specific.

Learn where the map’s useful resources are
On Reckoning, the official map guide highlights Pack-a-Punch, Perk Machines, the Arsenal, Ammo Caches, Crafting Tables, and possible Mystery Box locations. Learn how these points connect before committing to a route. Reckoning also has map-specific movement options, including Aether Elevators and Anti-Grav Personnel Launchers. Use the opening rounds to prepare
The Reckoning guide frames the first ten rounds as early preparation toward Pack-a-Punch. As you move around the map, decide where you want to go and what you want to save Essence for. Adjust your pace to the run rather than trying to hit every suggested milestone exactly; the guide says it is fine to be ahead of or behind its general pace.

Where should you spend Essence?
There is no single spending order established by the Reckoning guide. Its advice is to plan what you want to save for while learning where upgrade stations and other useful points sit on the map. Use that information to make spending decisions that fit your route and current needs instead of treating a suggested pace as a fixed build order.

Directed Mode is a guided way to work through Reckoning’s Main Quest. Call of Duty Staff’s September 4, 2025 map guide says the mode leads players from objective to objective and limits how far rounds can escalate before the quest is complete. On Reckoning, the cap rises at milestones and reaches Round 15 until the Main Quest is complete. This is a Reckoning-specific description from that guide; it should not be treated as a rule for every BO6 map or a guarantee about later updates.

Choose it if you want in-game direction through the Reckoning Main Quest. If you prefer less guided round-based play, use a mode that does not provide that objective-by-objective assistance, while checking the selected map’s own rules.

The Reckoning guide identifies Round 10 as the first exfil opportunity, letting you end the run and earn survival XP. It is an option, not a requirement to leave then: decide whether to exfil or continue based on your run and goals.

How to handle seasonal content and changing rules
Maps, events, and rewards can be season-specific. For example, Call of Duty’s October 7, 2025 Season 06 announcement described six BO6 maps and event content, including temporary changes to zombie health and damage. That page documents Season 06 at that time; it does not establish which maps, events, or rules are available in October 2026. Check the current in-game listing and the dated announcement for the relevant season before relying on a limited-time feature. Read the Season 06 announcement.
