If a voicemail alert is still on your Samsung phone, first open voicemail and listen to every new message. Samsung says the notification should normally clear after you have heard them. If it does not, you can troubleshoot the alert, change how voicemail notifications appear, or ask your carrier to disable voicemail service—three different fixes for three different goals.
Clear the notification after listening to messages
-
Open voicemail and listen to all new messages. Samsung says the notification should normally disappear once they have been heard.

If the alert remains, Samsung UK documents this route: Settings > Apps > sort/options > Show system apps > Call settings > Storage > Clear cache. Menu names and locations can vary by Galaxy model and software version.

If clearing the cache does not help, you can use Clear data on the same Call settings screen. Samsung warns that this resets the phone app and removes recent calls, though it does not remove contacts. If the notification still remains, Samsung says you can repeat the step for the Phone app; the same recent-calls warning applies.

Change voicemail alerts without turning voicemail off
To keep voicemail but change its alerts, Samsung UK documents this route in the Phone app: Phone > More options (three dots) > Settings > Voicemail > Notifications.
Recommended Free Tools
- Alert or Silent: choose whether voicemail notifications make an alert.
- Sound: choose a notification sound when Alert is selected.
- Pop-up and vibration: adjust whether notifications appear as pop-ups or vibrate.
- Lock screen: choose how voicemail notifications appear there.
Options and labels can differ by carrier, Galaxy model, and One UI version. If Voicemail or Notifications is missing, check the Phone app’s settings and the phone’s app-notification settings; if the option is still unavailable, ask your carrier about voicemail notification support.

Turn off the voicemail service
Muting an alert does not switch off voicemail. Samsung states that “Voicemail services are controlled by your network provider” and recommends contacting the provider to turn the service off. Ask the carrier to confirm that voicemail itself—not just its notifications—is being disabled.
Samsung also documents a call-forwarding menu at Phone > Settings > Supplementary services > Call forwarding. Forwarding calls and turning off carrier voicemail are separate configurations: forwarding controls where calls go under selected conditions, while voicemail service is managed by the network provider. Confirm the intended change with your carrier before adjusting call forwarding.

Why voicemail settings vary between Samsung phones
Voicemail is tied to the mobile network, and visual voicemail can also depend on carrier integration with Android’s Dialer and a carrier-provided app. The Android Open Source Project’s visual voicemail documentation describes that integration; it does not establish one universal Samsung menu or setting. As a result, the available voicemail app and controls can differ across carriers and Galaxy configurations.
