Fire tablet ads come from two different places, and each has its own fix. Ads on the lock screen are Amazon’s Special Offers, and you remove them through your Amazon account, which costs a one-time fee. Pop-ups that appear while you use the tablet usually come from an app or game you installed, so you stop them by finding and uninstalling that app.
First, work out which kind of ad you have

Amazon says it can offer some Fire models at a subsidized price by including personalized advertising on the device. That is why the lock-screen ads exist and why removing them costs money.

Remove lock-screen ads (Special Offers)
- Sign in to the Amazon account that is registered to the tablet.
- Open Manage Your Content and Devices.
- Select the Devices tab, then choose your Fire tablet.
- Under Special Offers, choose Remove offers.
- Read the price shown, then confirm.
Amazon’s help page says the account’s 1-Click payment method is charged a one-time payment when you unsubscribe from ads and sponsored screensavers. The help page doesn’t give one price for every device, account and region, so use the amount shown in your own account and don’t rely on a figure quoted elsewhere. If the tablet is registered to a different Amazon account, such as a family member’s, you must sign in to that account.

What this does and doesn’t cover
The removal flow covers lock-screen Special Offers. Amazon’s materials don’t say it removes promotions inside apps or other Amazon services, so you may still see recommendations elsewhere on the device.
Older devices
An Amazon staff reply from April 15, 2020 said Special Offers were on all Fire tablets except the first-generation Kindle Fire (K6). That statement is dated, so treat it as history, not a current compatibility list. Check the device page in your account to see whether the option appears for your model.

Stop pop-ups that appear while you use the tablet
An Amazon staff member replying in the customer forum on September 29, 2024 wrote that pop-up ads are generated by an app or game installed on the tablet. Removing Special Offers will not stop these. Amazon’s suggested approach is to uninstall apps until the pop-ups stop.
- Note which apps you installed most recently, especially free games and utilities. Pop-ups that started around the time you installed something are the strongest clue.
- Uninstall one suspect at a time, starting with the newest.
- Use the tablet normally for a while to see whether the pop-ups return.
- If they continue, remove the next suspect and repeat.
Removing one app at a time tells you which app caused the problem, so you don’t delete apps you want to keep.

- Stay connected with family and friends - ask Alexa to make video calls to friends and family or download apps like Zoom.
Hide inappropriate lock-screen ad content
If the issue is the content of the ads and not their presence, Amazon’s help page describes a filter. Go to Apps and Notifications → Amazon App Settings → Special Offers. Amazon describes this option as hiding inappropriate content. It doesn’t say it removes all ads, so the lock-screen offers will still appear unless you use the paid removal.
