Set up the 112MD app

Download 112MD from Apple’s App Store or Google Play. The app launched in March 2026, and the 112 Service says it provides national warnings and health alerts as well as emergency-contact features. UNDP Moldova’s launch announcement and the Ministry of Internal Affairs notice describe the app.

In your phone’s system settings, make sure notifications are allowed for 112MD. The official material reviewed confirms the app’s alert functions, but does not give a Moldova-specific, step-by-step enrollment or notification-settings path. Menu names vary by phone, so use your device’s notification settings rather than relying on an unverified app menu.

Keep the app updated. Before entering medical-profile information, read the app’s privacy information; its optional profile and location features are described in the launch announcement, but their current privacy practices are not independently established here.

Allowing notifications is sensible setup, but it is not a guarantee that every warning will reach every device or person.

112MD is the phone app currently identified by the official sources here as offering national warnings and health alerts. It requires an app installation and permission to send notifications.

MD-ALERT: planned, not live
MD-ALERT is a separate public warning system intended to send warnings through mobile networks. The government approved its concept in March 2026, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs described a 2027 launch target. In a 8 September 2026 report, MOLDPRES quoted Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin saying the system was expected to be fully functional by late 2027, following planned acquisitions, installations and configurations. That is a target, not a confirmed launch date. The Ministry’s concept announcement and the MOLDPRES report explain the status.
Do not change your phone’s emergency-broadcast settings expecting to receive MD-ALERT today. When the system launches, follow current instructions from Moldovan authorities and mobile operators.

How the planned mobile-network alerts are intended to work
MD-ALERT’s feasibility study recommends Cell Broadcast as its main delivery channel. Rather than sending each person an individual SMS, the system is designed to broadcast a message to phones connected to mobile cells serving a selected geographic area. The study says dedicated broadcast channels can send messages simultaneously without overloading telecom networks and describes operation across mobile generations from 2G to 5G. These are design claims in a feasibility study, not evidence of live performance in Moldova. Read the IGSU feasibility study.
The study says alerts are usually enabled by default on phones, though some devices let users change alert reception in settings. It also notes that very old or locally unapproved phones may not support the technology. This is general guidance, not a model-specific setup instruction, and it does not establish that MD-ALERT is active now.
