To get music on your Samsung watch, either transfer audio files stored on your phone, install a supported music-streaming app on the watch, or use the watch to control music playing on your phone. Which option works depends on your watch generation, model, region, and phone; the menus and available apps are not identical across Galaxy Watch models.
Choose the right way to listen

If you need music to keep playing when the phone is not nearby, choose transferred files or a watch app that supports the playback you need. Phone controls operate phone playback; they do not move the music onto the watch.

Transfer music files from an Android phone
Samsung’s documented workflow starts with audio files already saved on the phone. It does not export music directly from a PC to the watch when the watch is connected to a Galaxy or Android phone.
- Put the audio files on your phone. Confirm they are available as ordinary audio files, rather than protected downloads inside a streaming app.
- Open Galaxy Wearable. Select your watch, then open Watch settings.
- Open the content-transfer option. Depending on the watch and app version, tap Manage content or Add content to your watch, then tap Add tracks.
- Select tracks and finish the transfer. Approve any requested permissions and wait for the transfer to complete.
- Play the tracks on the watch. Open the watch’s Music app and choose the transferred music.
Samsung lists MP3, M4A, AAC, OGG, and WMA as formats supported by Galaxy Wearable and the Music app. That list applies to Samsung’s tools; another watch app may handle other formats. See Samsung’s instructions for playing and controlling music.

Why streaming downloads cannot be transferred as files
Offline downloads inside services such as Spotify are encrypted for use within the service. They cannot be exported as ordinary audio files through Galaxy Wearable’s track-transfer workflow. To listen to a service from the watch, use its supported watch app instead.
If you use an iPhone
Do not assume the Android steps above apply. Samsung documents Gear Music Manager for iOS only for certain older watch models, with an iPhone 6 or newer running iOS 12. That legacy route is not a general transfer method for current Galaxy Watches. Check Samsung’s music guidance for the specific watch and market before relying on it.

Use a streaming app on the watch
Supported Wear OS Galaxy Watches can use watch versions of Spotify and YouTube Music, according to Samsung. The exact app availability depends on the watch and market. For Spotify, Samsung says installation may be through Galaxy Store or Play Store, depending on the watch; Wear OS models follow their own setup path, while older Galaxy Watch and Gear generations use different sign-in or pairing steps.
- Identify your watch generation and operating system. Use the setup instructions for that model rather than following a menu path meant for another generation.
- Find the service in the applicable watch app store. Install it on the watch if it is available for your model and region.
- Complete the service’s setup. Sign in or pair as prompted. Spotify features and screens can differ, and some features may require Premium.
- Start playback and select an output. Depending on the model, output choices may include the watch, the phone, or a connected Bluetooth device.

Galaxy Fit models are not equivalent to Galaxy Watch models for installing or controlling Spotify. Check the support page for your exact device before expecting a watch app to be available.
Control music playing on your phone
If the music is playing on your connected phone, the watch can act as a remote. On supported Wear OS models, Samsung says media controls may appear automatically or be opened from a music-note control; availability and settings differ across generations. Use the controls to manage phone playback rather than looking for a local copy of the track on the watch.

Choose where the sound comes from
A Galaxy Watch model with a built-in speaker may play music through the watch. Otherwise, Bluetooth headphones or earbuds are an option if the watch supports them. Samsung’s Spotify instructions also describe choosing an available output such as the phone, watch, or connected Bluetooth device. The choices vary by model, so check your device’s audio support and pairing instructions before buying or pairing an accessory.

When the menus or playback do not match
- You cannot find “Add tracks.” Confirm the files are on the phone and that Galaxy Wearable is connected to the intended watch. The option may be labeled Manage content or Add content to your watch, and screens vary by device and market.
- A downloaded song is missing from the transfer list. It may be a protected streaming download rather than an exportable audio file. Use the service’s watch app if supported.
- The app or setup instructions do not match your watch. Check whether your model is Wear OS or an older Galaxy Watch/Gear generation, then use the corresponding app store and setup flow.
- You expect phone controls to work without the phone. Phone media controls operate playback on the connected phone; transfer files or use a supported watch app for watch-based playback.
- You use a legacy model or a different market. Samsung notes that menus and settings can vary. Its Canada guide, updated August 11, 2026, also describes the transfer workflow while warning that screens and settings differ by market and device: Play and control music on your Samsung watch.
