You can get more ringtones on a Samsung Galaxy in three ways. Pick another built-in tone, add an audio file you’ve downloaded to the phone, or look for tones in Galaxy Store or Google Play Store. Songs that exist only inside a streaming app won’t work, because Samsung says the audio must be a compatible file stored on the device.
Which ringtone source should you use?

Choose a built-in ringtone
- Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone.
- Tap a tone in the list to preview it.
- Select the one you want, then go back to save the choice.
Your list may differ from a friend’s Galaxy because carriers and models ship different defaults. If your menu labels differ, open Settings and search for “Ringtone”.

Add your own song or sound file
Step 1: Get the file onto the phone
Download or copy the audio file directly to the Galaxy. Samsung UK’s support page, updated 5 June 2026, lists MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC as supported formats. It says M4A needs converting to one of those first. That is Samsung UK’s guidance, so other markets or older devices may differ.

Step 2: Add it in Ringtone settings
- Go to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Ringtone.
- Tap Add (the plus sign).
- Choose the file from the Tracks list.
- Optionally turn on Play selected highlights only, so the phone plays just the portion you pick instead of the whole song.
- Tap Done.
If dual SIM is active, Samsung UK says you can choose a ringtone for each SIM. A single-SIM phone shows only SIM 1.

Give one contact a different ringtone
Samsung documents this in the Contacts or Phone app: open the contact, edit it, choose the ringtone option and pick a sound. Save the contact afterward so the choice sticks. On some devices and software versions, the contact has to be saved on the phone rather than to an account. Samsung’s US support also notes that a contact-specific ringtone can still sound when the phone is set to vibrate or mute, which is handy for important callers but surprising in a meeting.

Troubleshooting
- The song isn’t listed: Look in the Folders view as well as Tracks, as Samsung UK advises, and confirm the file is saved on the phone.
- It’s a streaming track: It can’t be used. Use a purchased or otherwise downloaded file instead.
- The format is M4A: Convert it to MP3, AAC, WMA or FLAC.
- Menus look different: Samsung warns that screens vary by model, operating system, carrier and region. Search Settings for “Ringtone” and follow your own labels.
- Still not enough variety: Try Galaxy Store or Google Play Store, and check that any app is trustworthy before installing it.
