To upgrade a repaired visitor cabin, finish the “Bigger on the Inside” quest, interact with the cabin’s outdoor sign, and choose Upgrade. The first listed visitor-cabin upgrade costs 3 crates; the game’s sign is the best place to check the price currently shown for your cabin.
Which materials do cabin upgrades use?
Cabin upgrades require crates. The cabin references do not establish that materials such as rubber, sticks, logs, Sparks, Mechanisms, or Gizmos can replace them. Those items are associated with crafting and other preparation, not the cabin-upgrade cost.

How to upgrade a visitor cabin
- Complete the “Bigger on the Inside” quest.
- Make sure the visitor cabin is repaired.
- Interact with the sign outside the cabin.
- Select Upgrade and review the crate cost shown there before confirming.
The first cited visitor-cabin upgrade costs 3 crates and adds a lobby and a second room. One cabin guide lists later room-addition costs of 5, 8, 15, and 25 crates, but those figures may not apply to every cabin or current game version. Use the sign in your game as the authority for the specific upgrade you are considering.

Does My Melody reduce the crate cost?
No. The cabin reference says My Melody’s Handy Helper ability does not lower cabin-upgrade costs, so bringing her along is not a way to spend fewer crates.
Personal cabins and other construction tasks
If you mean your own cabin rather than a visitor cabin, the unlock conditions differ: the cited guide associates “Make Yourself At Home” with unlocking a personal cabin and “Friends and Family” with unlocking more visitor cabins. Check the relevant in-game task and building sign for the requirements that apply to your cabin.

If you are trying to craft or decorate something rather than expand a cabin, identify the specific item or structure first; its materials may be different. PC Gamer recommends collecting daily-limited basics such as rubber and sticks and preparing crafting components, but that advice does not explain how to obtain cabin crates. Its guide also says Gizmos come from gifting Chococat.
Plan cabin space before spending crates
Upgrading an existing cabin and opening or repairing another one serve different needs. Decide how many rooms you need, which visitors you want to house, and where you want those cabins before committing the crate cost displayed at the sign. Kittymart recommends planning cabins by region and sharing a multi-room cabin among visitors; treat that as a planning strategy, not a game requirement.
