To play Mafia III at 60 FPS on Xbox Series X|S, install Mafia III: Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S from the Xbox Store. It is a separate edition from the Xbox One game, and the Store lists the Series X|S edition as supporting 60 FPS gameplay. This is an edition and access issue—not a frame-rate setting you turn on inside the Xbox One version.
What to install for 60 FPS
Find and install Mafia III: Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox Store lists that version as offering 60 FPS gameplay and technical improvements, and lists the Xbox One game separately. Check the edition name on the product page before installing; seeing Mafia III: Definitive Edition alone is not enough to confirm that you have selected the Series X|S version.

The Series X|S listing includes the main game, story DLC, and bonus packs. The Store identifies 2K as publisher and Hangar 13 as developer. The available listing describes 60 FPS as a capability of the Series X|S edition, not a setting that must be switched on after installation.
How to find and install the Series X|S edition
- Open the Xbox Store from your Xbox Series X or Series S dashboard.
- Search for the exact edition name: Mafia III: Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S. Open that product page rather than the separate Xbox One listing.
- Check the page for an install option. If your account is eligible, the Store should offer installation. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the Series X|S edition.
- Verify the edition you installed. Confirm that the title shown is the Series X|S edition, not the Xbox One edition.
If it does not appear in your library
A report from Pure Xbox says some digital owners may need to locate the edition manually through the Store. Its reported fallback is:
#1 Best Overall
- Mafia III on Xbox One X supports full 4K resolution and features HDR rendering.
- Collectible map of New Bordeaux Included.
- 1968 NEW BORDEAUX, A REIMAGINED NEW ORLEANS: A vast open world ruled by the mob and detailed with the sights and sounds of the era.
- A LETHAL ANTI-HERO: Be Lincoln Clay, orphan and Vietnam veteran hell bent on revenge for the deaths of his surrogate family.
- REVENGE YOUR WAY: Choose your own play-style; brute force, blazing guns or stalk-and-kill tactics, to tear down the Italian Mafia.
- From the Xbox dashboard, press Y to search.
- Type Mafia iii.
- Select Mafia iii Definitive Edition for Xbox Series X|S.
- Choose Show in Store to open its product page.
- If the account is eligible, check whether the page offers installation.
These are reported navigation steps, not an official Microsoft support procedure. Store presentation can vary, and the install option depends on the account’s access to the edition.
What the 60 FPS upgrade changes—and what it does not
The Xbox Store identifies 60 FPS gameplay and technical improvements for the Series X|S edition. Pure Xbox also reports fixes and improvements involving achievement tracking, story progression, visual consistency, stability, the user interface, and gameplay issues. Those reported changes are distinct from the frame-rate claim; the available information does not provide specific measurements for each improvement.

Do not expect every cinematic to run at 60 FPS. Pure Xbox reports that many real-time cinematics run at 60 FPS, while prerendered movie sequences remain at 30 FPS. A 30 FPS prerendered sequence therefore does not, by itself, mean that the Series X|S edition failed to install.

Digital owners
Digital owners may need to search for the Series X|S listing directly instead of relying on the library to surface it. Installation is conditional: the Store page needs to recognize the account as eligible and offer the install option.

Physical-disc owners
Disc-to-digital access is not confirmed for every physical-disc owner. Pure Xbox mentions Xbox Disc to Digital as a possible route but describes eligibility as uncertain, so owning a disc does not establish that the Store will grant access to the Series X|S edition. Xbox Series S has no disc drive, so a physical disc cannot be inserted into that console.
If the Store does not recognize your ownership or does not offer installation, contact current Xbox or 2K support to check the entitlement. The available information does not establish a universal workaround for an account that is not eligible.

Save data and achievements: what is not confirmed
The available information does not settle whether Xbox One save data transfers to the Series X|S edition or whether achievements are shared between the editions. Do not assume either before switching versions; check current Xbox or 2K support for guidance specific to your account and save.

Quick checks if you are still seeing 30 FPS
- Check the edition name. Make sure you installed the Series X|S edition, not the separately listed Xbox One game.
- Check what is on screen. The reported 30 FPS exception applies to prerendered movie sequences; many real-time cinematics and gameplay are reported at 60 FPS.
- Check access through the Store. If the Series X|S product page does not offer installation, the account’s eligibility has not been established. Use Xbox or 2K support rather than assuming a disc entitlement or save transfer.
