To improve photo quality on a Samsung Galaxy A23, start with the 50 MP main camera, clean the lens, tap the subject to focus, keep the phone still, and use the brightest practical light. Select the ultra-wide, macro, or Portrait mode only when the scene calls for it. These steps address the causes Samsung identifies most often—camera settings, shooting distance, and environmental conditions—without pretending that software can turn the A23 into a phone with a dedicated telephoto lens.
The A23 name covers LTE and 5G phones sold in different markets. Camera hardware, menu labels, and available features can therefore vary. The instructions below describe the functions documented by Samsung and tell you where to rely on the controls visible on your own model.

Know what the Galaxy A23 cameras can and cannot do
Samsung’s US Galaxy A23 5G materials describe four rear cameras: a 50 MP main camera, a 5 MP ultra-wide camera, a 2 MP macro camera, and a 2 MP depth camera. A Samsung specification sheet lists apertures of F1.8 for the main camera, F2.2 for the ultra-wide, and F2.4 for both the macro and depth cameras. A Korean SM-A235N listing describes autofocus and optical image stabilization (OIS) on the rear camera, an 8 MP front camera, and up to 10x digital zoom. Those figures belong to the cited market and model, not necessarily every A23 sold worldwide.
| Camera or feature | Best use | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| 50 MP main, F1.8 | Everyday photos and most subjects | Use it at the intended shooting distance; digital enlargement cannot add optical detail. |
| 5 MP ultra-wide, F2.2 | Groups, architecture, and landscapes that need more of the scene | Resolution is lower than the main camera, and the field of view and exact specifications depend on region. |
| 2 MP macro, F2.4 | Very close details | Requires a short, appropriate working distance and careful focus. |
| 2 MP depth, F2.4 | Depth information for portrait effects | It is not a telephoto camera and is not intended to provide extra reach. |
| Rear-camera OIS | Helps reduce shake in stills and video | It cannot freeze a moving subject or guarantee a sharp night photo. |
| Front camera | Selfies and video calls | The 8 MP figure is documented for the Korean LTE model SM-A235N. |
Samsung describes OIS as helping video look smoother and helping the phone capture finer detail in low light. Treat that as a stabilization aid, not a promise of blur-free images: your hands, subject movement, focus, and available light still matter. Likewise, the A23 specifications identify digital zoom rather than a dedicated optical telephoto lens. Pinching to 10x (where that limit appears on your model) crops and enlarges the image; it does not reveal detail that the sensor never recorded.

Set up each shot for the cleanest file
- Clean the lens. Wipe the rear camera glass with a clean, soft cloth. Fingerprints scatter light and can make highlights look hazy, especially at night.
- Open Camera and begin with the main rear camera. It is the most suitable starting point for ordinary framing and has the highest listed rear-camera resolution.
- Put the subject at a sensible distance. If you are too close for the main camera to focus comfortably, move back or try the macro camera for a genuinely close subject. If a person or object is tiny in the frame, move closer instead of immediately applying heavy digital zoom.
- Tap the subject on the preview. This tells the camera what should be sharp. Wait for focus to settle before pressing the shutter.
- Stabilize the phone. Hold it with both hands, keep your elbows close to your body, and press the shutter without a sideways jerk. Resting the phone on a solid surface helps for a static scene.
- Add or seek light. Face a person toward a window or another broad light source when possible. More light lets the camera use a faster shutter and lower amplification, which generally makes handheld photos look cleaner.
- Take a second frame. A small change in hand position or subject movement can decide whether a photo is sharp. Review the result at full size before moving on.
These are practical shooting measures, not a claim that Samsung tested every technique on every A23 variant. They directly address the settings, distance, focus, steadiness, and environmental factors that most visibly affect a small-phone camera.
Choose the camera or mode that matches the scene
Use the 50 MP main camera for general photography
Leave the main camera selected for people, pets, food, documents, and travel snapshots when you can frame the subject at a normal distance. It gives you the A23’s highest listed rear-camera resolution and the widest choice of working distances. Compose by physically stepping closer or farther away before reaching for digital zoom. On a stationary subject, the main camera’s OIS can help counter small hand movements, but it cannot correct a person who is walking quickly or a child who is turning.
Switch to ultra-wide when coverage matters more than detail
The 5 MP ultra-wide camera is designed for a broader view: a group that will not fit, a room where you cannot step back, or a landscape in which you want more foreground and sky. Samsung Gulf lists a 123-degree field of view for its regional A23 product page; do not assume that exact angle applies to every LTE or 5G model. Ultra-wide images can make objects near the edges look stretched, so place faces and important straight lines nearer the center when possible.

Use macro for a genuinely close subject
Select Macro for a coin, leaf, texture, or other detail that sits close to the phone. Move slowly until the subject looks sharp, tap it to focus, and keep the handset still. Because the macro camera is listed at 2 MP, good light and careful framing are especially valuable. If the subject is not close enough to justify Macro, the main camera may produce a cleaner file.
Use Portrait for software-created background separation
Portrait mode is for a person or object that you want separated from the background. Keep the subject a reasonable distance from the phone and avoid a background that is the same tone as the subject’s hair or outline; software blur works best when the edges are distinct. After capture, Samsung’s A23 5G guide says you can open the Gallery thumbnail, choose More options, and select Add portrait effect. Listed effects include Blur, Spin, Zoom, and Color Point. Menus and effect availability can differ by model and software, so follow the labels shown on your phone.
Reserve digital zoom for convenience
Digital zoom is useful when you cannot move closer, but enlarging the preview does not create optical detail. At higher magnifications, fine texture is more likely to look smeared or noisy. For a landmark or distant sign, take one frame at the available zoom and another at the main camera’s native view; the wider image may retain more usable detail for later cropping.

Why A23 photos look blurry or dark—and what to do
Samsung Support says: “If your photos or videos appear blurry, dark, or lower in quality than expected, this may be caused by camera settings, shooting distance, or environmental factors.” The statement appears in Samsung Support’s article “How to fix blurry or poor photo and video quality on your Samsung Galaxy device,” last updated August 18, 2026. Use the following order so you change one likely cause at a time.

If the whole image is soft
- Inspect and clean the lens first; a film of oil can soften every part of the frame.
- Tap the main subject and pause briefly before taking the picture.
- Check whether you are too close for the selected camera. Move back with the main camera or try Macro for a near subject.
- Brace your hands and repeat the shot. OIS reduces some camera shake but cannot compensate for a long movement during exposure.
If only a person or object is blurred
Subject movement is a likely explanation even when the phone is steady. Ask a portrait subject to pause, take the picture during a natural still moment, or make several frames. A tripod can hold the phone steady, but it will not freeze the subject.
If the picture is dark
Move toward a brighter position or add a continuous light source that does not create harsh glare. Keep the phone stable while the camera gathers more light. OIS may help preserve detail from your hand movement, but it cannot brighten a scene to daylight or prevent a moving subject from streaking.

If close-ups repeatedly fail to focus
Increase the distance slightly and tap the detail again. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance discusses a Focus enhancer feature on some Galaxy devices for close-range work, but the available icon and behavior are not established for every A23 variant. Use only the controls that actually appear in your Camera app; do not assume that a particular Focus enhancer button exists.
If quality changed after switching modes
Confirm which camera is active. Ultra-wide, Macro, Portrait processing, and digital zoom have different purposes and can produce a different level of fine detail from the 50 MP main camera. Return to the main camera for a controlled comparison at the same distance and lighting.

Practical composition choices that cost nothing
Image quality is not only pixel count. Before pressing the shutter, decide what should dominate the frame. For a person, leave enough space in the direction they face. For a landscape, use the ultra-wide only when the extra coverage adds something; otherwise the main camera may keep distant textures clearer. For a close detail, remove distracting objects from behind the subject and keep the phone parallel to a flat surface if you want the entire object to look evenly sharp.

Keep bright windows or lamps out of the frame when they cause flare, unless you deliberately want a backlit silhouette. A small change in your position can place the light behind you rather than behind the subject. Review the corners of an ultra-wide image for stretched people or leaning lines, then recompose with the important elements closer to the center.
Use a tripod when steadiness is the real problem
A compatible phone tripod with an adjustable holder is an optional aid for self-timer portraits, static night scenes, and repeated framing. It supports the phone; it does not upgrade the sensor, increase resolution, or guarantee sharpness. Check that the holder fits your case and that the tripod is stable on the surface you plan to use. For a moving subject, hand-held timing and focus still matter more than the accessory.
Account for regional and model differences
Samsung’s A23 pages cover several markets, including the United States, Gulf countries, Korea, and Bangladesh. The LTE A23 and 5G A23 are distinct products, and their camera labels, field of view, zoom limits, and menu options can differ. When a specification matters, check the model number in Settings and compare it with the Samsung page for your country. The Korean SM-A235N figures—8 MP front camera and up to 10x digital zoom—should be treated as model-specific examples, while the 123-degree ultra-wide figure is identified for a Gulf listing.
Do not judge the phone by a single low-light frame. Make a fair comparison with the lens clean, the same subject distance, the same camera, and similar light. Manufacturer specifications describe hardware and intended functions; they are not independent laboratory measurements or a universal best-settings recipe.
Quick Recap
A quick decision guide before you shoot
- Need the most dependable everyday result? Use the 50 MP main camera, tap focus, and hold steady.
- Need more of a group or room? Try Ultra-wide, then check edge distortion.
- Photographing a tiny nearby detail? Use Macro, add light, and adjust distance until focus locks.
- Want a separated subject? Choose Portrait and refine the effect in Gallery if your model offers it.
- Subject far away? Prefer moving closer or using the appropriate camera; use digital zoom only when convenience outweighs lost detail.
- Everything looks poor? Clean the lens, verify the selected mode, retake after tapping focus, improve the light, and test at a different distance.
