1. Check whether your exact monitor has speakers
Find the full model number on the monitor’s label or in its product information, then look up that model on LG’s product page or in its owner’s manual. Confirm that the specifications explicitly list built-in speakers. LG notes that some monitor models do not include them; no setting can enable speakers that are not present. LG’s monitor audio guidance explains how to check.

For example, LG’s U.S. product page lists built-in Waves MaxxAudio stereo speakers on the 34U530A-W. That is one model, not a specification that applies to every LG 34-inch monitor. Check the 34U530A-W specifications only if that is your model.

Use a connection supported by both your computer and the monitor. LG lists HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C as possible ways to send audio to a monitor, but available ports and audio support vary by model. Check the monitor manual and computer specifications for the input you are using; the connector type alone does not establish that a particular setup supports audio.

Make sure the cable is firmly seated and that the monitor is set to the input connected to the computer. If you switch inputs, the computer may need to route sound to the monitor associated with the active connection.
3. Select the LG monitor as the sound output
The computer must send audio to the monitor; connecting a video cable does not necessarily select it as the sound device. In Windows, open the sound or output-device settings and choose the LG monitor. Its entry may use the monitor’s model name or a display/audio device name, and the exact label and menu path can vary by Windows version and hardware. LG’s Windows audio guidance covers selecting the monitor as the output.

If you use an operating system other than Windows, choose the LG monitor in that system’s sound-output settings; the precise steps depend on the operating system and version.

4. Check the monitor’s mute and volume
After selecting the monitor as output, use its on-screen controls to make sure it is not muted and its volume is raised. Control layouts differ by model. LG notes that some monitors use a joystick beneath the display for volume; consult your model’s manual for the right controls and menu names.

LG provides the 34U530A-W support page with manuals and a quick guide for that model. Use your own model’s support page if you need its specific control instructions.

The monitor is missing from the sound-output list
- Confirm the monitor is connected to the computer with a supported signal connection and that the monitor is on the input being used.
- Unplug and firmly reconnect the cable at both ends. If the issue continues, check whether the port, cable, or connection supports audio for this setup.
- Use the operating system’s sound-device or driver troubleshooting guidance. The right steps depend on your Windows version and hardware; do not assume one driver fix applies to every computer.
The monitor is listed but produces no sound
- Verify that the LG monitor is the selected output rather than another audio device.
- Check the monitor’s own mute and volume settings, then confirm the computer’s volume is not muted.
- Check that the monitor is using the input connected to the computer. If you are testing another input, verify that the model and connection support audio there.
There are no volume controls or the specifications do not list speakers
Recheck the full model number and its specifications. LG confirms that speakers are not included in every monitor. If your model has none, use a separate speaker or headphones, or a monitor with built-in speakers; changing computer or monitor settings cannot add internal speakers.

Sound works on one input but not another
Audio support can depend on the monitor input, cable, and computer’s output routing. Check the manual for the exact monitor model and verify that the computer is sending audio over the connection you are testing. The model and connection details are needed to identify an input-specific problem.
