The quickest route depends on which Dalaran you mean: Northrend Dalaran and the Legion-era Broken Isles Dalaran are separate versions. To reach a Dalaran you can access, use its Dalaran Hearthstone if you have one, or a mage portal; for Broken Isles Dalaran without its Hearthstone, use your faction capital’s portal to Azsuna and fly onward.
First, identify which Dalaran you need
World of Warcraft has two distinct Dalarans: the Northrend city and the Broken Isles city introduced with Legion. Their access routes are not interchangeable. Check the destination name and the portal’s context before travelling; directions for one version may not take you to the other. The Warcraft Wiki’s Dalaran overview distinguishes the versions and describes access, but it is community-maintained and can change.

Choose a route based on your goal
| Goal or route | What to do | Requirements and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Return to a Dalaran | Use the character’s Dalaran Hearthstone, if available, or ask a mage for a portal. | The Hearthstone or portal must provide access to the intended version. The transportation guide identifies both as ways to reach Dalaran; check your character’s access and current game mode. |
| Reach Broken Isles Dalaran without its Hearthstone | Travel through your faction capital’s portal to Azsuna, then fly to Dalaran. | This route is described for the Broken Isles city. The faction capital, character progression, and current portal availability can affect access. |
| Continue travelling from Broken Isles Dalaran | Use the flight master at Krasus’ Landing to take an available flight path. | Flight paths depend on which destinations are available to your character. |
| Get to a special destination | Use the relevant destination-specific NPC or event portal, if it is available. | These services are not general-purpose ways to travel between Dalaran districts or around the world. |
Wowhead’s transportation guide, updated October 7, 2022, lists Dalaran Hearthstones, mage portals, and capital-city connections. Treat it as a general reference rather than a guarantee that a particular portal is available to every character in the current patch.
How non-mages can get there
You do not need to be a mage to travel to Dalaran. A Dalaran Hearthstone is the most direct option when your character has one. Otherwise, use an available expansion or capital-city connection; for Broken Isles Dalaran, the cited route is a faction-capital portal to Azsuna followed by flight. A mage portal is another option if a mage is available to help.
#1 Best Overall
- Check your Hearthstones. If you have a Dalaran Hearthstone, use it and confirm which Dalaran it reaches.
- If you lack the relevant Hearthstone, check your faction capital. For Broken Isles Dalaran, look for the portal to Azsuna.
- Fly from Azsuna to Broken Isles Dalaran. Once there, Krasus’ Landing’s flight master offers onward flight-path travel where available.
- If the route is unavailable, verify your destination and character access. Portal access can depend on faction, progression, patch, and game mode; ask a mage for an appropriate portal if one is available.
Keep event and destination teleports in their lane
Some teleports serve only a particular destination or event. Blizzard’s Darkmoon Faire instructions identify a Mystic Mage in Dalaran who teleports players to the Faire. That is a Faire route, not a general city transit option.
Likewise, the Dalaran portals described in Blizzard Entertainment’s July 24, 2024 pre-expansion update notes were for the Radiant Echoes event: they took players to event staging areas, with return portals in the event zones. Those were event-specific routes, not evidence of a permanent shortcut.

When a route does not appear
- Confirm that the portal or Hearthstone leads to the Northrend or Broken Isles version you want.
- Check whether the route is faction- or progression-dependent and whether it is available in your game mode.
- For exact, current directions, follow the in-game portal labels and signage. The sources cited here do not establish a current authoritative map of internal portal locations or the shortest path between Dalaran districts.
Portal availability and access conditions can change with patches. Blizzard’s content update notes index tracks ongoing updates, but does not itself provide Dalaran route directions.
