Apple’s $1,999.99 iPhone Duo can work out to about $799.99 before tax and fees for an eligible AT&T customer who receives the carrier’s maximum $1,200 trade-in credit. That is an effective device cost after 36 monthly bill credits—not an $800 checkout price or a cash rebate. You must meet AT&T’s trade-in, financing, plan and service requirements to receive the full amount.
How the iPhone Duo reaches an effective price of about $800
AT&T lists the iPhone Duo at $1,999.99 on installment and advertises up to $1,200 off with an eligible trade-in. Subtracting the maximum credit gives an effective device cost of about $799.99 before tax and fees: $1,999.99 − $1,200 = $799.99. This is a calculation using AT&T’s published price and maximum offer, not a guaranteed price for every buyer. AT&T’s offer terms make the credit conditional and spread it across 36 monthly bills.

The offer is most useful if you already want AT&T service for the full credit period and have a qualifying phone to trade. The device is not reduced by $1,200 at checkout; you pay the installment amount and eligible credits offset bills over time.

Who qualifies for the full $1,200 trade-in credit?
AT&T’s advertised maximum depends on satisfying all of its stated conditions. Before ordering, check the offer details for your exact device and account. The listed requirements include:
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Trade in an eligible smartphone with a minimum trade-in value of $230.
- Purchase the Duo on an eligible installment plan and finance at least $1,999.99.
- Activate it on AT&T Premium 2.0. AT&T states a minimum plan price of $100 per month before discounts, plus taxes and fees.
- Meet AT&T’s “well-qualified” customer requirement.
- Keep eligible service active to receive all 36 monthly credits.
AT&T says credits begin within three bills. If you cancel service, the credits stop and the remaining device balance becomes due. The carrier also lists a $35 activation or upgrade fee; other taxes, fees, charges and restrictions may apply. Confirm the terms at checkout, since AT&T says offers can change.
What the separate $800 switcher reward actually pays for
AT&T also advertises a reward card of up to $800 for customers switching from a competing provider. It is based on the unpaid balance on an eligible existing phone, not the price of the new iPhone Duo. To qualify, the offer calls for porting a new line and eligible postpaid service; you must submit a recent bill within 60 days. AT&T says the reward card arrives within 8–10 weeks and is capped at $800 per line, for up to 10 lines. Review AT&T’s offer terms for the qualifying service and redemption rules.

Do not treat that reward as another $800 reduction on the Duo. It is intended to help pay the balance on your previous phone, subject to the offer’s requirements.

AT&T separately advertises up to $200 in online-only bill credits for eligible new lines. Its terms require an eligible new voice-and-data line, an eligible plan and continued service for 36 months to receive all credits. AT&T says other offers depend on the device, plan and trade-in combination, but the published terms do not establish that this online discount, the $1,200 trade-in offer and the switcher reward all stack on one order.

For that reason, do not add the three maximums together or assume a combined savings total. Ask AT&T to confirm the exact combination for your line and trade-in, and check the final checkout terms before you commit.
Consider the 36-month cost, not just the phone math
The $799.99 estimate describes the Duo’s net device cost only if you qualify for and receive every trade-in credit. It does not include service, taxes or fees. AT&T’s stated Premium 2.0 minimum is $100 per month before discounts, taxes and fees; keeping the line active for the full 36 months is necessary to collect all credits. Compare that continuing plan cost with what you would otherwise pay for wireless service. A large device credit may not be a saving if it requires a plan that costs more than your alternative.

Before placing the order, verify your trade-in’s eligibility and value, the qualifying plan price for your account, the amount and timing of credits, and what happens if you change or cancel service. The $35 activation or upgrade fee and other applicable charges also belong in your budget.

The Duo’s appeal is its foldable format: Apple lists a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display, along with a titanium frame, eSIM-only design, A20 Pro chip and two 48MP rear cameras. For comparison, Apple’s shop lists the iPhone 18 Pro from $1,199. Apple describes it as a conventional-design phone with a three-camera Pro system that includes telephoto and variable aperture. The Pro starts $800 below the Duo’s $1,999 base price, before any carrier offers. Decide whether the foldable screen and its larger inner display matter enough to justify the higher starting price and the carrier commitment required for AT&T’s maximum credits. Apple’s shop lists current iPhone 18 Pro pricing and details.
Other ways to pay for the Duo
Apple lists the 256GB Duo at $1,999, with Apple Card Monthly Installments of $83.29 per month for 24 months for qualified customers. That is a separate financing arrangement from AT&T’s 36-month bill-credit promotion; do not compare the monthly payments without accounting for the different terms and any applicable conditions. Apple also describes a separate lease program. Check Apple’s shop for its purchase and financing options.
