To get a skin from the Fortnite Item Shop, buy it with the displayed V-Bucks amount in Fortnite or through Epic’s online shop. Then, from the lobby, open Locker, select the skin, and click back to equip it. If you bought the wrong item, avoid using or equipping it while you check whether it can be canceled.
What “claiming” an Item Shop skin means
An Item Shop skin is a cosmetic you obtain by purchasing an offer; “claim” does not mean every skin is free or that there is a separate claim button for all shop items. You select an offer and purchase it using the displayed V-Bucks amount. Check the item and the amount shown before confirming, since the live shop’s offers can vary and there is no single universal skin price to rely on.

You can make the purchase in Fortnite or through Epic’s online Item Shop at fortnite.com/shop. Epic provides both routes. Its instructions do not establish that one route has a different catalog or price, so choose based on which is more convenient for you. In either case, sign in to the account where you want the cosmetic to be owned. Buying on a different account can make it seem as though the skin is missing when you later check your Locker.

Buy a skin from the Item Shop
In Fortnite
- Launch Fortnite and open Item Shop.
- Find the skin or offer you want. Review the offer and the V-Bucks amount displayed on its purchase screen.
- Confirm the purchase only if the selected item and displayed amount are correct. The confirmation prompts and button labels may vary by device, so follow the flow shown in your game rather than expecting one universal button name.
Take a moment to distinguish the skin you intend to buy from any other item in the shop. If the offer includes more than one cosmetic or has details you want to check, review what is shown before confirming. The important checks supported by Epic’s purchase route are the selected offer and the displayed V-Bucks amount; do not assume a price based on an earlier shop visit.
On Epic’s online shop
- Go to fortnite.com/shop and sign in to the Epic account that should own the skin.
- Find the offer and check its details and displayed V-Bucks amount.
- Follow the on-screen purchase flow and verify the selected item before confirming.
Once the purchase is complete, return to Fortnite and look for the cosmetic in Locker from the lobby. The key point with the online route is to use the Epic account you intend to use in Fortnite. Epic identifies the in-game and online shop as purchase options but does not establish a price or catalog advantage for either one. Use the route that is easiest to access while keeping the account context clear.
Equip the skin from the Locker
- Return to the Fortnite lobby.
- Open Locker.
- Select the owned skin or cosmetic.
- Click back to equip the selected item.
Epic’s Locker instruction is to access the Locker from the lobby, select the item or cosmetic, and click back. Device-specific controls may be labeled or mapped differently, but the route is through the lobby’s Locker rather than the Item Shop. The shop purchase does not itself replace this selection step: after buying, go to Locker and choose the cosmetic you want equipped.
If the skin is not visible, first check that you are on the account that made the purchase and that you are looking among owned cosmetics. If you bought through the online shop, return to Fortnite and inspect Locker there. The official steps do not establish a special separate claim button or a different Locker route for online purchases.

If you bought the wrong skin
Fortnite provides two self-service routes that may reverse an eligible V-Bucks purchase: Cancel Purchase and a Return Ticket. They have different time limits and conditions. If the purchase was a mistake, do not use or equip the item before checking Cancel Purchase eligibility: using or equipping it can make that option unavailable.
| Option | When it may apply | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| Cancel Purchase | Within 24 hours of purchase | The item must not have been used or equipped in any game mode. Each item can be canceled only once. |
| Return Ticket | For an eligible purchase made within the last 30 days, including after the 24-hour cancellation period | Uses a limited account ticket; some purchase types are excluded. |
The 24-hour Cancel Purchase option is the first thing to check for a recent mistake. Epic says it applies only when the item has not been used or equipped in any game mode. The condition is about use or equipping, not only whether you have worn the skin in a particular match. Each item can be canceled only once, so the option is not an endlessly reusable reversal for the same purchase.
If the 24-hour period has passed, or Cancel Purchase is not available, an eligible purchase from the last 30 days may qualify for a Return Ticket. Tickets are limited: each account starts with three, gets one additional ticket every 365 days, and can hold no more than three at a time. Epic Support says it cannot grant extra tickets. Because a ticket is a finite account resource, check whether the specific purchase is eligible before using one.
These are options for eligible purchases, not a guarantee that every transaction can be undone. A Return Ticket has a longer purchase-age window than Cancel Purchase, but it consumes one of the account’s limited tickets and has exclusions. Cancel Purchase has the shorter 24-hour window and the strict unused-and-unequipped condition. The purchase’s age, use status, purchase type, and the option shown in the account flow all matter.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Use the in-game return or cancellation route
- Open Fortnite and select the Player Icon.
- Open the menu, then choose Support and Refunds.
- Choose Return or cancel purchase.
- Select the item, review the option presented, and confirm if you want to proceed.
Use the online route
- Sign in at fortnite.com/shop.
- Open the Player Icon and choose Return and Cancel Purchases.
- Choose Show Purchases, select the item, and confirm if you want to proceed.
The labels above are the route Epic currently gives for these self-service options. If the precise menu wording or layout differs on your device, use the corresponding Support and Refunds or return/cancel purchase area that appears in your account. Select the intended purchase and review the option offered before confirming; do not proceed on the assumption that all items qualify for the same remedy.
Epic says refunds are usually returned within a few minutes. If the V-Bucks do not appear, check that you are viewing the correct account and platform balance. A purchase paid from a platform balance may be returned there rather than to the shared wallet. Therefore, a return may not show in the balance you expected if you are checking a different account or wallet.
Purchases that may not qualify
Epic lists exclusions from these self-service V-Bucks return options. They include:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Passes, pass levels, and premium reward tracks.
- Gifted purchases and cosmetic bundles.
- Level Up Quest Packs.
- Save the World loot llamas, and event or weekly items.
- Purchases made in developer-made islands.
Check the option offered for the specific purchase in Fortnite or the online account flow; do not assume that every Item Shop transaction can be reversed. These exclusions are important when choosing between the two return paths: the 30-day age limit and an available ticket do not, by themselves, make an excluded purchase eligible.

Common snags and what to check
- The skin is not in the Locker: confirm you are using the account that made the purchase, return to the lobby, and check owned cosmetics in Locker. If you purchased through Epic’s online shop, be sure Fortnite is being used with the account that should own it.
- You cannot cancel the purchase: Cancel Purchase is limited to the first 24 hours and requires that the item has not been used or equipped in any game mode. If that period has passed, check whether the item is eligible for a Return Ticket within 30 days.
- No Return Ticket option appears: the purchase may be excluded, outside the eligibility window, or unavailable for another account-specific reason. The listed exclusions include passes and pass levels, premium reward tracks, gifted purchases, bundles, Level Up Quest Packs, certain Save the World and event or weekly items, and purchases in developer-made islands.
- The refund does not show in the expected balance: check the purchasing account and the platform balance used for payment. The return may go to that platform balance rather than the shared wallet. Epic says returns are usually processed within a few minutes, but check the correct destination before concluding that the V-Bucks are missing.
- You are unsure which path to choose: for a purchase within 24 hours that has not been used or equipped, check Cancel Purchase first. For an eligible purchase within 30 days, a Return Ticket may be another option, but it is limited by the ticket balance and purchase exclusions.
Does getting a skin require a V-Bucks gift card?
No. A gift card is not required to equip a skin, and it is not part of the Locker process. Epic’s terms describe physical or virtual V-Bucks cards that may add credits to an Epic account, but card availability and country compatibility are not established here. If you use one, check its terms and redemption instructions for your region and account before relying on it.
A card is only a possible way to fund an account; it does not change how an Item Shop cosmetic is equipped. First make sure the card is compatible with your region and account under its terms, then use the credited balance for a shop offer if appropriate. Do not assume that a particular retailer listing is available, that a specific card works in every country, or that buying a card is necessary to complete the Locker steps.
Quick checklist
- Buy the offer in Fortnite or on Epic’s online Item Shop while signed in to the intended account.
- Check the specific skin and displayed V-Bucks amount before confirming.
- From the lobby, open Locker, select the owned cosmetic, and click back to equip it.
- If a purchase was accidental, leave the item unused and unequipped while checking the available cancellation or return option.
- For a mistake, compare the 24-hour Cancel Purchase condition with the 30-day Return Ticket window, ticket balance, and purchase exclusions.
- If returned V-Bucks are not visible, verify the purchasing account and the relevant platform balance.

Where is the Fortnite Locker?
Open Locker from the Fortnite lobby. Epic’s instructions say to select the item or cosmetic there and click back.
Can I cancel an Item Shop skin purchase?
Cancel Purchase may be available within 24 hours if the item has not been used or equipped in any game mode. Each item can be canceled only once. Check the in-game Support and Refunds area or the online Return and Cancel Purchases page to see the option for your purchase.
What if it has been more than 24 hours since I bought the skin?
An eligible purchase made within the last 30 days may qualify for a Return Ticket. Each account starts with three tickets, receives one every 365 days, and can hold up to three. Some purchase types are excluded, and Epic Support cannot grant extra tickets.
Why are my returned V-Bucks not in my shared wallet?
Check the account and balance used for the purchase. Epic says a return from a purchase paid with a platform balance may go back to that platform balance rather than the shared wallet.
Do I need a V-Bucks gift card to equip a skin?
No. A gift card is not required to equip a skin. Equipping is done from Locker in the lobby; a card is only a possible way to add credits, subject to its terms and regional compatibility.
The Bottom Line
To get and equip a Fortnite Item Shop skin, buy the offer in Fortnite or at Epic’s online shop, then open Locker from the lobby, select the owned cosmetic, and click back. Check the displayed V-Bucks amount before confirming. If you make a mistake, avoid using or equipping the item and check the 24-hour Cancel Purchase option; eligible purchases within 30 days may instead qualify for a limited Return Ticket, subject to exclusions.
