The amount depends on your console, fault and service route, so use PlayStation Repairs to check your options and get a quote for your console. This guide focuses on US support information; prices and service availability can differ by country and model.
How much does PlayStation repair cost out of warranty?
The official US support pages reviewed do not state a universal out-of-warranty price or a current model-by-model price chart. A single figure could confuse different consoles, faults, locations or service outcomes. Get the amount for your own case through PlayStation Repairs rather than treating an old customer report or shop estimate as Sony’s current price.

Before starting, note the exact console model, serial number, symptoms and warranty status. When you receive a quote, record the amount and any conditions, including shipping or other charges shown in the service flow. Check your warranty before paying
Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC’s US PS5 limited hardware warranty covers the original purchaser for one year from the original purchase date. It is valid in the United States and Canada, and warranty service requires proof of purchase. Those terms apply to the cited PS5 warranty; do not assume the same coverage for PS4, accessories or consoles in other regions.

For a qualifying defect within the warranty period, the stated remedy is repair or replacement with a factory-recertified product, at SIE’s option, at no charge, including the console shipping described in the warranty procedure. The warranty does not promise component-level repair. It directs owners to PlayStation Repairs for authorization and instructions: “You must visit playstation.com/repairs to receive a return authorization and shipping instructions.”
The PS5 warranty excludes damage caused by unauthorized service or opening the product. This is a term of the cited warranty, not a blanket statement about every legal right in every jurisdiction.

Once you have Sony’s quote, compare it with a written estimate from a local or mail-in independent repair shop and the cost of replacing the same console model in your region. Prepare your console and protect your data
Sony warns that service may change console settings or functionality, remove cosmetic stickers or skins, and cause data or content loss. Back up storage regularly and, before sending the console, remove peripherals and any content or material you consider private or proprietary. For a PS4 software problem
If the console remains accessible and the symptoms point to software rather than hardware, PlayStation’s PS4 system software instructions explain how to reinstall the system software. You need a USB drive formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, a PS4/UPDATE directory, and the reinstallation file saved as PS4UPDATE.PUP. Then follow the console’s Safe Mode procedure. Reinstallation deletes console data, so back up what you can first. This is software recovery, not a hardware repair, and it is not the right step for symptoms that point to hardware failure.
Have the model and serial number ready
Use the exact model rather than assuming every PS4 or PS5 variant has the same service conditions. PlayStation’s PS4 model and serial number guide shows where to find that information for different PS4 families. Keep the model and serial number available when contacting support.
