To get an email when a scheduled screenshot fails, enable a notification specifically for failed runs and add an email recipient. A visual-change alert is different: it reports a difference between successful captures and may not notify you when a capture cannot be completed.
Set up an alert for failed screenshot runs
- Choose a scheduler with an explicit failure alert. Check its documentation for failed-run or failed-snapshot notifications; a general claim of “monitoring” or “email notifications” does not establish that capture failures are covered.
- Create a schedule. Select the page, cadence, and rendering options it needs.
- Add an email destination. Find the schedule’s delivery or notifications settings and enter the recipient address.
- Enable the failed-run notification. In Allscreenshots’ documented API example, the setting is
alertOnFailure: true. Its example also setsautoPauseAfterFailuresto5; five is the sample value, not a universal default. The guide describes email and webhook delivery, which can be used together. See Allscreenshots’ recurring screenshot guide for its dashboard and API setup. - Check a run and its history. Use the service’s trigger-now option if available, then inspect run history for status and any failure details. An email is more actionable when you can connect it to the affected run and its reason.
- Set a repeat or pause policy. Decide whether repeated failures should keep running, generate repeated messages, or pause the schedule. Review the provider’s exact policy so an automatic pause does not leave monitoring stopped unnoticed.
Make sure the alert covers the right event
A change alert compares successful captures and reports a visual difference. A failure alert reports that a scheduled capture did not complete. If the page times out or otherwise fails before a usable image is produced, there may be nothing to compare, so a change-only notification does not meet the need.

Allscreenshots documents onlyOnChange separately from alertOnFailure. Site-Shot likewise distinguishes schedule health from change detection: its documentation describes health states such as overdue and last run failed, while its change notifications are a separate feature delivered to the account email. Site-Shot’s scheduled screenshots page says it emails and pauses a schedule after fourteen failed windows in a row; that is Site-Shot’s specific behavior, not a shared industry threshold.

Troubleshoot missing or noisy email alerts
- No message after a failed capture: Confirm the failed-run setting is enabled separately from change detection, and check that the email address is configured on the schedule or account as required.
- The schedule appears switched on but sends no alerts: Check schedule health and run history for overdue or failed statuses. An enabled schedule is not proof that a run completed.
- Repeated failures stop producing messages: Look for a repeat limit, suppression rule, or automatic pause. Calibre, for example, limits notices to three consecutive emails for the same failure; Site-Shot documents a pause after fourteen failed windows. Do not assume another provider uses either policy.
- The schedule has stopped: Check whether an auto-pause threshold was reached, then review the failed-run history before resuming it.
- Email is not the right destination: If the scheduler offers webhooks, use one to route events into a workflow you control. Allscreenshots documents webhook delivery, but the cited guide does not prescribe a particular email provider or webhook-processing service.
