If your Samsung Galaxy phone will not charge, charges slowly, stops before reaching 100%, or will not charge wirelessly, work through the connection, port, temperature, settings, and diagnostics below. “Force charging” should mean restoring normal charging safely—not bypassing moisture or temperature protections. Menu names and feature availability vary by model, software version, and region.
1. Check the cable, charger, and connection

Unplug the cable from both the phone and power adapter, then reconnect it firmly at both ends.

Look for visible damage to the cable or adapter. Test with another known-compatible, undamaged Samsung charger and cable if available.

Confirm the accessory supports your exact Galaxy model and the charging tier you expect. Samsung describes 15 W Fast Charging, 25 W Super Fast Charging, and 45–60 W Super Fast Charging 2.0, but not every phone supports every tier. For higher tiers, Samsung identifies a 5 A USB-C cable for best performance; a 3 A cable may limit speed or perform poorly depending on the tier. Check Samsung’s current accessory guidance for your model rather than assuming one adapter wattage fits every Galaxy phone. Samsung warns that incompatible accessories can cause slow charging, interruptions, or failure. Replacing an accessory is a useful test when the existing one is damaged or unsuitable, but it is not a guaranteed fix. Samsung Galaxy device may appear to be charging slowly or not charging at all covers accessory and connection checks.
2. Inspect the charging port and respond safely to moisture
Check for visible debris
Turn the phone off and inspect its charging port with a flashlight. If you can see debris, Samsung US advises removing it carefully without using metal objects or liquids. Do not insert pins or pour cleaners into the port.

If the phone detects moisture
A moisture warning is a safety response, not a prompt to override the warning. Do not charge by cable until the port is completely dry. Samsung’s guidance applies even to water-resistant devices: “Even on water-resistant Galaxy devices, the charging port must be completely dry before charging.” Gently shake the device, wipe it with a soft, clean cloth, and leave it in a ventilated area to dry using cool air. Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance provides these steps.
3. Let an overheated phone cool
If the phone feels too hot, disconnect it and let it cool before trying again. Samsung says charging can slow down or stop temporarily when the device is too warm. Demanding apps running while charging can also raise the phone’s temperature, according to Samsung Ireland’s charging guidance. Do not try to defeat a temperature warning.

4. Check fast-charging settings and Battery protection
Confirm fast charging is enabled
On supported models, check Settings > Battery > Charging settings and enable the available fast-charging option. Labels and paths may differ by model and software version. Samsung notes that Galaxy S23 series and later combine Fast charging and Super fast charging under one Fast charging control. Fast charging may not work when the phone is connected to a PC or standard USB device.
Check whether Battery protection is limiting the charge
Open Settings > Battery > Battery protection. Depending on the selected option, this feature may limit the maximum charge or stop charging early. A phone that pauses at its configured ceiling may be behaving as intended rather than experiencing a fault. Place the phone near the center of the charging pad. Temporarily remove its case and accessories, and clear objects from both the phone and the pad. Poor alignment can slow or stop charging and may cause overheating. Keep metal objects and cards out from between the phone and charger.

Use the wireless charger’s proper AC adapter and cable. Fast wireless charging is available only on devices certified by Samsung and the Wireless Power Consortium.

Check accessory compatibility if you use a third-party cover, Qi2 charger, or Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) setup; compatibility depends on the phone and accessory. If wireless charging stopped after a software update, check for further updates.

6. Run diagnostics and restart the phone
If the phone has power, try a soft reboot; the key combination can vary by model. You can also open the Samsung Members app and run Phone diagnostics. Samsung Members can check Cable charging; Samsung Ireland’s guidance also lists Battery status and Wireless charging checks. See Samsung Ireland’s diagnostic and troubleshooting guidance for details.
7. When to seek service
Contact Samsung Support or arrange a service inspection if charging still fails with a known-compatible charger and cable, or remains intermittent after the safe checks above. Persistent charging trouble or sharply reduced battery life may indicate a hardware problem; Samsung’s charging guidance recommends seeking support when troubleshooting does not resolve the issue.
