For a French IP address, choose a VPN that currently offers an exit location in France, then confirm that location in its app before subscribing. A France-focused review updated August 10, 2026, picked ExpressVPN for connecting to France, with NordVPN as runner-up and Proton VPN as its privacy-oriented choice. Those are that review’s conclusions—not a universal ranking or a five-provider test.
A VPN routes your traffic through a server in France, so websites see that server’s public IP instead of the IP address from your usual connection. It does not hide your identity from accounts you sign into or protect you from every online threat.

Which VPNs offer a French IP address?
The available France-specific review supports three providers more fully than the other candidates. The comparison below separates the reviewer’s conclusions from provider-reported features; server counts and capabilities can change.
| VPN | What the evidence supports | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| ExpressVPN | Top10VPN named it its best choice for France in a guide updated August 10, 2026. ExpressVPN lists two Paris VPN locations and advertises IP and DNS leak protection. | The ranking and platform results are the reviewer’s findings; the location and protection features are vendor claims. Neither establishes future access to every service or a comparative speed result. Top10VPN’s France review · ExpressVPN’s France locations |
| NordVPN | It was the France-focused review’s runner-up. NordVPN reports more than 300 servers in France across four locations, naming Paris, Marseille, and Strasbourg, and advertises a 30-day refund guarantee. | Server and refund details are vendor-reported and may change. NordVPN also reports more than 7,100 global servers; that figure is not a France-specific performance measure. Top10VPN’s France review · NordVPN’s France server information |
| Proton VPN | The review selected it as its anonymity-oriented option. Proton VPN advertises French IP access, WireGuard, and servers with 10 Gbit/s capacity. | The 10 Gbit/s figure is a vendor capacity claim, not a measured connection speed or comparison with other providers. A VPN also does not make you anonymous when you are signed in to an account. Top10VPN’s France review · Proton VPN’s server information |
Windscribe and CyberGhost appear in the cited France-related material, but the evidence does not establish a comparable, current basis for placing them in a verified top-five ranking. For either, check the provider’s current French locations and plan terms directly before choosing.

How do I get a French IP address abroad?
- Choose a VPN plan that includes a French exit location. Check the provider’s current location list rather than assuming that a global server count means it has servers in France.
- Install the provider’s app on the device you plan to use and sign in.
- Open the server or location list, select France (or a listed French city), and connect. The precise app labels differ by provider.
- Check your public IP location with a reputable IP-checking service, then open the site or app you need. If the IP check does not show France, disconnect and reconnect or select another French location if one is available.
A French exit IP changes the network address visible to sites. It does not change account details, payment information, device settings, or other signals a service may use to determine eligibility or location.
Can a VPN help you watch French TV abroad?
It can provide a French exit IP, which may help when a service uses IP location to decide what to show. But streaming platforms may block VPN IP addresses, and access can vary by provider, device, account, and date. A reviewer’s successful test is evidence only for the tested conditions—not a promise of continuing access. Check the service’s terms and the VPN’s current location options; do not assume that connecting from France guarantees a particular program will play. Is a free VPN enough for a French IP?
It depends on whether the free plan actually includes a French location and whether its limits fit your use. According to Top10VPN’s 2026 review, Windscribe’s free option has a 10 GB monthly allowance. Clubic reports that Proton VPN Free has unlimited data but does not include a French IP. These are plan-specific details that may change, so confirm the live terms before relying on a free tier.

A data cap can make a free plan unsuitable for sustained video use, while unlimited data is not useful for this purpose if the plan lacks a French exit location. What a VPN does—and what it does not
France’s public digital education agency ANCT explains that sites see the VPN server’s IP address rather than the user’s usual IP address. That is useful for changing the apparent network location, but it is not the same as becoming anonymous.
- It can: route your traffic through a VPN server and replace your ordinary public IP address with the server’s IP as seen by websites.
- It cannot: hide your identity from a service when you log into your account.
- It does not replace: antivirus software, careful browsing, or checking that a site is genuine. A VPN will not stop phishing if you enter credentials on a fake site.
ANCT presents VPNs as a tool in its public digital education guidance. This article does not assess French law or give legal advice about using a VPN to access geo-restricted or copyrighted material. Streaming access may also be governed by the service’s own terms. ANCT’s VPN guidance

How to choose between the options
- For a reviewed France-focused pick: ExpressVPN was Top10VPN’s choice in its guide updated August 10, 2026. Treat that as the reviewer’s dated conclusion, not a guarantee of future streaming access.
- For multiple listed French locations: NordVPN reports servers in four French locations, including Paris, Marseille, and Strasbourg. Confirm current availability in its app.
- For the review’s privacy-oriented pick: Proton VPN was the reviewer’s selection. Its vendor claims about WireGuard and 10 Gbit/s server capacity are not independent comparative speed tests.
- Before paying: verify a French location on the provider’s live list, check device support and simultaneous-connection terms, and read the current price, renewal, refund, and free-tier conditions. The material available here does not establish a standardized independent speed test across five providers.
