How to Get a Deadlock Invite and Join the Playtest (2026 Access Guide)

Deadlock access currently requires a friend invite from someone who is already a playtester. Valve’s official Steam listing says, “Access is currently limited to friend invite via our playtesters.” There is no open application described on that listing, and Deadlock is still an early-development build rather than a generally available Steam release.

The only confirmed way to get access

Start with the route Valve actually documents: find someone who already has Deadlock playtest access and ask that person to invite you. The official Deadlock Steam listing does not describe a public signup form, an open waiting list, or a way to purchase entry. It identifies friend invitations through existing playtesters as the current access method.

This means access depends on an existing participant choosing to send an invitation. Valve’s listing does not state how many invitations each playtester receives, whether every request will be accepted, or how long an invitation takes to arrive. Treat any promise of a guaranteed invite or a fixed waiting time as unofficial.

What Deadlock’s current status means

Deadlock is listed as a multiplayer game in early development. Valve warns that the build contains temporary art and experimental gameplay, so the version available to playtesters should not be treated as a finished product or a final representation of the game.

  • Biege design
  • Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem

The listing also says Deadlock is not yet available on Steam as a normal release and that its release date is to be announced. Valve is named as both developer and publisher. These details explain why access is being handled through a limited playtest instead of a standard store launch.

Question What the official listing establishes
Is Deadlock publicly released? No. The page says the game is not yet available on Steam.
How can a new player currently enter? Through a friend invite from an existing playtester.
Is there an open application? None is described on the listing.
Is there a release date? No; the release date is listed as to be announced.
Is the game finished? No. Valve describes it as early development with temporary art and experimental gameplay.

Step-by-step: how to pursue an invite

1. Use the official listing as your starting point

Open the official Deadlock page on Steam and read the current access wording. Access policies can change while a game is in development, so the page is the place to check before acting on a message, post, or video that claims a different method.

2. Identify a genuine existing playtester

Ask people you know who already participate in the playtest. A genuine contact should be able to explain that they have access without asking you for a payment, your account password, a remote-access session, or a copy of an identity document.

Be specific when asking. A short message such as “Do you currently have Deadlock playtest access, and if Valve gives you an invitation option, would you consider inviting me?” makes clear that you understand the process is controlled by the playtester and is not guaranteed.

3. Do not assume a playtester must invite you

The listing confirms the route, not an entitlement. A playtester may have no invitation available, may choose not to send one, or may not know whether Valve has enabled invitations for that account. Avoid pressuring someone or sending repeated requests while waiting.

4. Wait for an official invitation flow

If a playtester agrees, follow the invitation notice or prompt that Valve presents through its official services. The listing does not publish a universal button name, number of screens, or delivery schedule, so instructions copied from an older post may no longer match the current interface.

Do not hand over your account credentials to “activate” an invitation. An invite should not require another person to log in as you, install unknown software, or disable security protections.

5. Check access from your own account

Use the Steam account that was invited and verify that the game appears through the official Steam interface. If access does not appear immediately, check the invitation message and the account you are signed into before assuming the invite failed. Contact the person who sent it only after confirming that you did not accept it on a different account.

6. Expect an unfinished test environment

Once access is granted, remember that this is an early-development playtest. Temporary art, experimental mechanics, bugs, balance changes, downtime, or other changes are normal possibilities for a build described that way. A problem in the test does not establish what the final release will contain.

Can you join without an invite?

The official listing does not describe a no-invite route. It specifically limits current access to friend invitations through playtesters, so a new player should not expect a public registration form or an automatically approved request.

That policy could change later. Valve may update the listing as the test expands or as the game approaches release, but no such alternative is established on the page checked on October 13, 2026. Recheck the official listing before relying on a new signup claim.

How to recognize unofficial access offers

Because access is limited, third parties may present themselves as gatekeepers. The following offers are not identified by Valve’s listing as official access methods:

Rank #4
Deadlock Board Game
  • Vintage Board Game
  • Game of Skill and Strategy for two players
  • Vintage game from the '70's
Offer or claim Why to treat it cautiously Safer response
“Pay me for a guaranteed invite” The official page describes friend invitations, not a paid access market. Do not pay for an invite or provide payment details to an unknown seller.
A separate “early access” signup page No public application page is described on the official listing. Verify the address independently and use the official Steam page for status updates.
A request for your Steam password or security code An invitation should not require surrendering account credentials. Keep passwords and one-time codes private; decline the request.
A downloadable “invite tool” or launcher Valve’s access wording does not require third-party software. Do not install unknown files to obtain access.
“Everyone who asks will receive an invite” The listing gives no acceptance rate or promise that every request succeeds. Assume an invitation is discretionary and wait for an official notice.
A claim that a release date is already fixed The listing currently says the release date is to be announced. Check Valve’s listing rather than relying on an unverified date.

A legitimate friend invitation is different from buying an account that already has access. Account transfers can create security and ownership problems and are not presented by Valve as the access route. Use your own account and keep control of it.

What computer do you need?

Do not buy or upgrade a computer based on a supposed Deadlock specification copied from an unofficial page. Valve’s current listing leaves the main system-requirement categories unspecified. That means settled requirements have not been published on the page and a definitive minimum or recommended specification cannot be stated from it.

Requirement category Current status on Valve’s listing What you should do
Operating system Not published Wait for Valve to publish a supported OS and version.
Processor Not published Do not rely on a processor recommendation from an unofficial guide.
Graphics hardware Not published Do not purchase a graphics card specifically for Deadlock yet.
Sound card Not published No settled sound requirement is listed.

You can still prepare by keeping your operating system and graphics drivers maintained, ensuring you have enough storage for a future installation, and using a secure Steam account. Those are general readiness steps, not published Deadlock requirements. They cannot guarantee that a particular computer will run the playtest.

What the listing does—and does not—promise

It does establish

  • Deadlock is a multiplayer game in early development.
  • The current build uses temporary art and experimental gameplay.
  • Access is currently limited to friend invitations via existing playtesters.
  • The game is not yet generally available on Steam.
  • The release date is to be announced.
  • Operating-system, processor, graphics, and sound-card requirements are currently marked as not published.
  • Valve is listed as both developer and publisher.

It does not establish

  • How many invitations an individual playtester receives.
  • Whether a particular request will be accepted.
  • How long an invitation takes to arrive.
  • A public application process.
  • A paid invitation program or authorized third-party seller.
  • Final hardware requirements.
  • A final release date.

Keeping those distinctions clear prevents the most common misunderstanding: confusing a limited development test with a released game that anyone can download.

What to do if your situation changes

If a friend says they can invite you

Confirm that they currently have access, ask them to use the official invitation mechanism, and wait for the notice on your own account. Do not send money or credentials as part of the process.

If you receive a link from someone you do not know

Do not assume the link is official because it uses Deadlock’s name or logo. Compare its instructions with the wording on Valve’s listing. A demand for payment, account credentials, security codes, or unknown downloads is a reason to stop.

If you cannot find anyone with access

There is no confirmed alternative application on the current listing. Continue checking the official page for a policy change instead of using an unofficial signup or purchasing an account.

If hardware advice conflicts

Prefer the current official listing and wait for the unspecified fields to be replaced with published requirements. Treat estimates based on the unfinished build as provisional, not as a guarantee of performance.

Bottom line

To join Deadlock now, ask an existing playtester for a friend invitation and use only the official invitation flow. The game remains an early-development test, is not yet generally available on Steam, has no announced release date, and has no settled system requirements on Valve’s listing. Anyone offering a guaranteed paid invite, a secret signup page, or a fixed hardware specification is offering information that the official page does not support.
