Burundi is a smaller market than most VPN destinations, so availability is the first thing to check. At the time of writing, the only provider we found that publicly advertises a Burundi server pool is CometVPN, and we could not independently confirm its current inventory or test the addresses it assigns.
Step-by-step: getting a Burundi IP through a VPN
A VPN changes the IP address that websites see by routing your traffic through a server with its own public address. If that server’s address is registered to Burundi, sites will generally see a Burundi location. The process has four stages.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Confirm Burundi is in the live server list. Open the provider’s current server or locations page and search for “Burundi” by name. Do not assume that an “Africa” region or a neighbouring country includes it.
- Check that the location is available on your plan and device. Some providers restrict certain locations to higher tiers or specific apps. Read the plan details before paying.
- Install the official app, sign in, and select Burundi. CometVPN’s published instructions describe signing up, installing its app, finding its Burundi server pool, and activating the connection. That is the provider’s own guidance rather than an independently tested walkthrough, so treat the steps as a starting point.
- Verify the exit IP before relying on it. With the VPN connected, open an IP lookup tool and check the reported country and city. Repeat the check after reconnecting, because a session may assign a different server.
Burundi and Brunei are different countries
Country codes and similar names cause mistakes. A Proton VPN page that appears in search results is about Brunei and “Bruneian” IP addresses, not Burundi. Its existence says nothing about whether Proton offers a Burundi exit, so do not use it as evidence for Burundi availability. Check the destination spelling in the provider’s menu before you connect.
Registered location versus physical server location
Some providers run “virtual” locations, where the server sits in one country but its IP address is registered to another. Private Internet Access describes this arrangement for some of its locations in its help article on virtual server locations. For most people, the registered country is what matters, because it determines how websites geolocate the address. If you need the traffic to physically pass through Burundian infrastructure, you must ask the provider directly. Its answer will tell you whether the location is physical or virtual.

Burundian public IP space exists
Burundi-assigned public addresses are real. IPinfo’s record for the sample address 41.79.226.4 places it in Bujumbura, Burundi, and associates it with Burundi Backbone System SM, as shown on its IP record. That confirms that Burundi-registered address space exists. It does not show that any consumer VPN provider has servers using that space, so the provider’s own server list remains the deciding evidence.
Choosing a provider: what to compare
We did not find an independent head-to-head comparison of VPN services that offer Burundi exits, so the table below lists the checks that matter rather than a ranking.

| Comparison point | What to check | What the evidence shows |
|---|---|---|
| Burundi availability | Burundi appears by name in the live server list | CometVPN advertises a Burundi server pool on its own site; not independently verified |
| Exit IP country | Public IP lookup after connecting | Not stated for any provider in the sources we reviewed |
| Physical or virtual location | Ask the provider whether the server is in Burundi or only uses a Burundi-registered address | PIA describes virtual locations for some of its servers; Burundi status not stated |
| Apps | Official app for your device | CometVPN advertises apps for Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows |
| Speed | Test from your own network at the times you use it | Windscribe recommends choosing geographically close servers for speed; no Burundi-specific performance figures found |
| Site compatibility | Test the service you need | A VPN exit does not guarantee that a website accepts the address or unlocks content |
| Terms and privacy | Current policy and subscription terms | Read directly from each provider; CometVPN’s privacy claims are first-party statements |
For a general reference on how providers present server networks, Windscribe’s server list and Surflare’s server page show how exit locations are typically listed, though neither confirms a Burundi exit.
Speed, latency and website access
Burundi is a long way from most of the world’s major data centres, so connections to it may carry higher latency than nearby exits. That trade-off matters if you use the connection for video calls or games. Test the speed and the target site before you depend on the address, because a Burundi IP may be treated differently by some services, including banking, streaming and government sites.

What is and is not established
- Established: Burundi-assigned public IP space exists, and CometVPN publicly states that it offers a Burundi server pool and describes a setup process.
- Not established: Whether CometVPN’s Burundi pool is live today, which addresses it assigns, or whether a given session geolocates to Burundi. These are first-party claims that we could not verify.
- Not established: Whether any other mainstream provider currently offers a tested, working Burundi exit, or what physical infrastructure supports one.
- Not established: The legal status of VPN use in Burundi. CometVPN’s FAQ says VPNs are legal there, but we found no government, regulator or court source to confirm that. Check current local guidance before relying on a VPN for any legally sensitive purpose.
Verdict
A Burundian IP address is achievable only through a VPN provider whose live server list includes Burundi, and the exit must be checked with an IP lookup after every connection. CometVPN is the provider whose published materials describe that service, but its claims need confirmation from its live server list and your own test before you pay. If you cannot find Burundi listed by name, that provider does not offer the exit you need, and you should not assume that a nearby country or a Brunei listing will do.
Provider claims are current as of the vendor pages we could access; check them again before subscribing.
