To confirm whether a UTEP player is available for a particular game, check the official availability report issued under the conference governing that matchup, then review UTEP’s official football news and game notes for context. A past injury story or the team roster is not a current game-status report. Check again near kickoff, because availability is specific to an upcoming game.
Where to check UTEP player availability
- Identify the game and its governing conference. Policies can differ by conference and season. UTEP’s official 2026 season preview identifies 2026 as the program’s first season in the Mountain West. For a 2026 matchup, verify the Mountain West’s current report and policy rather than assuming Conference USA rules apply. UTEP’s 2026 season-opening article provides team context.
- Find the official conference availability report for that game. Use it for the formal game-week designation, and make sure the report corresponds to the matchup and date you care about.
- Read that conference’s definitions. Do not assume a label has the same meaning across conferences. Conference USA’s Football Availability Report Policy is a useful example, but its definitions should be applied only when that policy governs the game.
- Check UTEP’s official football news and game notes. These can provide team announcements and useful background, but an older injury report is not a live designation.
- Recheck close to kickoff. A report concerns a specific upcoming game; it is not a long-term prognosis.
What Conference USA’s labels mean
Conference USA’s published policy, accessed in 2026, defines its own report categories as follows. These are CUSA definitions, not a universal NCAA status scale.

The policy generally calls for listing student-athletes expected to contribute. Redshirts, walk-ons, and players unlikely to participate are exempt unless their status changes significantly, so interpret omissions in light of those reporting rules. The percentages are category definitions, not a guarantee about what a particular player will do.

How to use UTEP news and the roster
Official team news and game notes can explain a player’s background or report an announcement. For example, UTEP’s September 3, 2026 article says linebacker Garrett Hawkins missed the rest of the 2025 season after an injury, and that Kam Thomas started the first game of 2025 but missed the rest of that season after an injury. Those are historical facts; they do not establish either player’s availability for a later game.
