As of October 4, 2026, direct feeds and some third-party conversion methods are still documented, but no reliable replacement has been established for people who follow communities they do not moderate. You can set up a feed while it works; check again after November 13 because access may change.
What Reddit’s RSS change means for readers
In a September 30, 2026 announcement, Reddit said it would stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026, citing their use for large-scale scraping and automated abuse. Reddit also said it will preserve moderation workflows through supported alternatives, but added: “If you use RSS for feeds outside of a community you moderate, there is no replacement.” Read Reddit’s announcement.

That distinction matters if you simply follow a few subreddits in a feed reader: the announced moderator options are not a general-purpose way to subscribe to unrelated communities. Reddit’s date is an announced retirement, not proof that every feed will stop at precisely the same moment or that a third-party route cannot work; the sources available do not establish a dependable post-retirement method.

Use Reddit’s direct feed URL
- Open the Reddit page for the subreddit you want to follow.
- Add
.rssor.atomto the page URL. For example, the format for Reddit’s security community isreddit.com/r/redditsecurity.rss. - Open the resulting URL. If it displays a feed, copy the address.
- In your RSS reader, choose its add-subscription option and paste the feed address. Confirm that the reader can parse it before adding more feeds.
Reddit feed behavior and reader compatibility can vary. The documented URL format does not guarantee a particular update speed, number of items, sorting option, or continued access.

Try Open RSS URL conversion
Open RSS documents a URL-wrapper method for subreddit, search, user, and comment-related feeds. Start with the Reddit subreddit or post URL, apply a sort or time filter if the service offers one, and prepend openrss.org/ to that URL. Open the transformed address and add the resulting feed to your reader. See the service’s Reddit feed instructions for the current procedure and supported page types.
Open RSS recommends filtering high-frequency subreddit feeds to a “Top” time period to reduce overload. Treat that as the service’s practical advice, not a performance guarantee. Its current documentation describes how to convert URLs; it does not promise that converted feeds will keep working after Reddit’s announced retirement.

Which alternatives cover which use cases?
| Option | Best fit | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Reddit Devvit apps such as Discord Relay | Common alerts for moderators of a community | Reddit says this does not replace feeds for communities you do not moderate. See its Discord Relay setup guidance. |
| Open RSS | Converting documented subreddit, search, user, and comment-related URLs into feeds while the method works | Current service documentation is not a guarantee of operation after November 13, 2026. Open RSS documentation. |
| RSS-Bridge public hosts or self-hosting | People exploring an outside feed-generation service or operating their own bridge | The documentation lists public instances and self-hosting, but does not establish that RSS-Bridge can keep fetching Reddit content after Reddit retires its feeds. Check its Reddit bridge documentation and public-host list. |
| Reddit API | Developers whose use case fits Reddit’s documented API access | Documented listing endpoints such as hot, new, and rising do not by themselves provide a consumer RSS replacement or guarantee access without applicable credentials, approval, or migration. See the Reddit API reference. |
When assessing an outside bridge, consider which communities it can cover, where it fetches and serves content, how much setup or maintenance it needs, and what its privacy, logging, and reliability terms say. Reddit can see details of devices accessing direct feeds, including IP addresses; Open RSS also warns of bandwidth limits. Direct Reddit RSS should not be treated as private or unlimited.

What to do if a feed fails
- Before November 13: Check the URL spelling and whether your reader accepts the feed. If appropriate, try Open RSS’s documented URL conversion.
- Do not increase request frequency: Open RSS warns about bandwidth limits, and Reddit says scraping and automated abuse are reasons for retiring feeds.
- After November 13: A failure may reflect Reddit’s announced retirement rather than a mistake in your reader. Trying
.rssagain or switching to old Reddit should not be assumed to bypass a platform-level change. - If you moderate a community: Review your alert workflow and Reddit’s Discord Relay setup guidance before the announced date. That path is for moderator workflows, not general subscriptions.
