For a broad view of current MLB roster moves and free-agent signings, start with MLB.com’s Hot Stove tracker. Use MLB Trade Rumors when you want to search transaction records by contract length or reported value, and confirm consequential or disputed details in a dated announcement from the team or MLB.
Choose a tracker for the question you have
These trackers are useful for finding and organizing transaction information, but they are not interchangeable. Pick one according to whether you need a league-wide overview, contract-oriented search, team move categories, or a player’s career history.

| Tracker | Best use | What it shows or lets you search |
|---|---|---|
| MLB.com Hot Stove | Broad, league-wide browsing of current moves | Players, positions, prior and new teams, transaction dates and notes; filters include move status, team and position. |
| MLB Trade Rumors Transaction Tracker | Searching transaction records, including contract details | Player, team, transaction type, date range, free-agent type, contract years and contract value. |
| FanGraphs RosterResource Transaction Tracker | Distinguishing types of roster moves | Categories include free agency, trades, extensions, waivers, DFA, promotions and demotions. |
| Baseball Savant career transactions | Looking up a player’s career movement history | A career transaction view; the page says its transaction information was obtained from Retrosheet. |
How to follow current moves
- Start with MLB.com’s Hot Stove tracker. Scan the league-wide list for a player, prior or new team, date and notes. Use the status, team or position filters to narrow the view.
- Search MLB Trade Rumors for contract-oriented details. Narrow records by player, team, transaction type or date range, and use its free-agent type, contract years and contract value fields when those details are your focus.
- Use FanGraphs RosterResource to sort by move category. Its listed categories help separate signings and trades from extensions, waivers, DFA decisions, promotions and demotions.
- For a player’s past movement, consult Baseball Savant’s career transaction view. Its Retrosheet data-source statement applies to that page; it should not be assumed to describe every tracker’s data.
Verify important deal details in an official announcement
Trackers are convenient discovery tools, but MLB Trade Rumors and FanGraphs are secondary sources. If a move is disputed or the exact contract terms matter, look for the dated announcement from the player’s team or MLB. Preserve the announcement’s status wording: a deal agreed to, one pending a physical, and an official signing are different stages, so do not describe all three simply as “signed.”
Recommended Free Tools
When comparing tracker records, check whether the entry identifies the transaction date and type, includes the contract fields you need, and points to a dated underlying announcement. The available tracker descriptions do not establish which service updates first, how quickly any of them updates, or whether one is complete in every case. Do not infer a speed or completeness ranking from a record appearing on one page.

Keep transaction tracking separate from watching games
MLB.TV is a viewing service, not a transaction database. It may be relevant after a player changes teams if you want to watch games, but use a roster-move tracker and an official announcement to follow and confirm the transaction itself.
