To follow a podcast on Spotify, open its show page and select FOLLOW. To listen without internet access, download the individual episode you want. Following adds a show to Your Library; downloading stores an episode for offline listening, and one does not automatically do the other.
How to follow a podcast on Spotify
- On mobile or tablet: Use Search to find the podcast, then open its show page and tap FOLLOW. Spotify says the show appears in Your Library under Podcasts.
- On desktop or the web player: Find and open the show page, then click FOLLOW. Spotify describes the library destination as Podcasts & Shows.
To stop following a show, return to its page and tap or click FOLLOWING. Spotify says following podcasts and shows can help you keep up with new releases and improve recommendations: Spotify’s guide to following artists, podcasts, and shows.

How to download a podcast episode on Spotify
- Open the podcast or show and find the episode you want.
- Select Download for that episode. Spotify also says you can open the three-dot menu in the Now Playing view for a podcast or show and choose the download option.
- Look for the downloaded status next to the item to check that it is available offline.
Downloads are episode-level: following a show saves it in your library, but you still need to download each episode you want to play offline. Spotify also offers a separate option to save an episode to Your Episodes; saving and downloading are different actions. See Spotify’s instructions for podcasts and shows.

Spotify’s support pages say Free users can download podcasts. Premium also includes podcast downloads, but Spotify notes that some shows may require Premium. If a particular episode cannot be downloaded, check the restriction shown on its page. Spotify’s plan distinction is explained in its offline listening guidance.

Keep downloads available and fix download problems
Spotify says you must connect to the internet at least once every 30 days to keep downloads. Its support guidance lists these possible reasons for missing or unsuccessful downloads:
- The app was reinstalled.
- Downloads are being used on more than five devices.
- The Spotify app is out of date.
- There is a problem with the SD card.
Check that the app is current, confirm the episode shows downloaded status, and connect online if it has been a while since the device was last connected. Spotify documents these download rules and troubleshooting causes on its Listen offline page.
